i am being totaly serious is Cannabis or marjawan bad for sankes like smoking it around them an stuff like that.
-
Hahahaha.. I'm sorry, I know you're being serious, but that's probably the funniest question I've ever seen on here.
But straight up, my rule of thumb is, if its not found in their natural environment or on a care sheet, try to avoid it. However, this is not a common question that I've seen on the boards, so maybe someone who has toked up with their snake may have a better answer for you.
-
LOL!! I somehow doubt any type of smoke would be be good for them. But then again it may do wonders for those less than docile ones. As long as they are in their enclosure I'm sure not enough smoke would enter it to hurt them, unless you smoke it like we did back in the day...one right after another.... LOL!! :D

Huh......Dont live in Colorado do ya? Maybe RandyP. can answer this question....LOL
p.s. In no way am I implying that randy would know first hand if this smoke would harm the snake......Just thought it would be interesting what a Deputy would have to say about this. LOL

I bet it would do wonders for the ones who are trouble eaters!
-
Would that then make a snake a "Cotton Mouth"?

I don't know about this. Your snake might get the munchies and take off for 7-Eleven at 3 in the morning.

  LOL!!!!!

 ROFLMAO Will- thats funny!

LOLOLOL at will!!
Oh man, I've always wondered if snakes have the capability to get high, I've just always thought it was too much of a crackpot idea to post! That and I keep forgetting to look it up the next morning ;) Kidding!
I don't know much of anything about reptile biology compared to mammals, but I'm assuming that THC would have some sort of an effect if they have the right receptors in their brains. Considering how simple their bodies are, they probably don't even have a blood-brain barrier, so you could risk totally perma-frying an animal if it does affect them. One hit for a human blown into the cage would be like a roomful of smoke for them.
Update: a google search shows that some random guy states that "reptiles lack a blood-brain barrier" but I dunno about the validity. Also, I'm not a biology major (yet) so I could be waaaay off.

Oh, about BBB: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/bbb.html
"A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response."
A reptile sans BBB would not have this defense against getting utterly and entirely too high
-
I remember that pic Will, lol.
The better question here is: Will cannabis fix feeding problems?
-
In all seriousness. I rescued a carpet python where the owner would blow marijuana smoke into the snake's enclosure because he wanted to see it get high. The snake suffered severe nuerological damage. It couldnt climb because all the smoke messed up its motor function. It coulnt eat either so it died not too long after i got it. Smoking weed might be fun but dont do it around your herp. Would you smoke weed in the same room as an infant i dont think so. Smoke it outside smoke it in another room or even better dont smoke it at all. Geeez i feel like i am in a forum with a bunch of pot heads LOL.
-
Well spoken, Damien. I'm sorry to hear about your rescue...but it's valuable experience and I'm glad you were able to share.
-
It's pretty retarded to blow smoke at any of your pets IMO - borders on sadistic. Save the smoke for yourself.

Snake Kills Local Child.
I knew a guy who ruined a tankful of fish (45g hex) by stumbling and dropping a hit of LSD into the tank, years ago. Talk about a bunch of weird-behaving fish. Swimming sideways and all kinds of stuff. It was obvious there was neuro damage.

that's the funniest comment in this entire thread. well, that and i'm picturing marla's friend... "whoa dude, look at THAT fish.."
-
Will, yeah, the thing is that he really had to wait for the next day to be sure the fish were doing what he saw them doing. :)
-
Hehe same thing happened to a friend at VA Tech sorta - another guy dropped some gel into a mudskipper's tank. It lived but from that point on became a ragingly mean little creature that would charge out of the water and go for you whenever anything approached the tank. Bizarre and yeah cruel - so if you ever hear of the legendary dose fish . . .
I'm making light of this maybe more than I ought to - it's pretty thoroughly uncool to experiment on your pets - unless youare one of those Dahmer types that gets off on it.
-
Oh, and Will - thats about the most wicked looking avatar i've seen yet.
-
Smoking around your animals is obviosly not healthy for them.
Think about it like this.
The animal in question may not or does not have the capabilities to "filter" said substances through their body. Plus they cannot get away from it as they are locked in their enclosure.
It may lead to nurological and resperitory disorders.
I have seen a Rottweiller who was fed a sheet of acid (yes I said sheet). It was not a pleasent experience for anyone. Including the dog

BP.net does not condone the sale or use of any illegal drugs. We do not think pets on drugs is ok.
That should cover it....lol
-
-
BBBWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA - he looks like he is chillin' on a beanbag watching THE WALL.
Serious subject (dont do it keeds) hilarious picture.
-
LOL Suddenly all the stoners come outta woodwork!
And regardless of whether or not I smoke up, I have a choice. Our pets, on the other hand, do not. Forcefully exposing any animal to any inappropriate chemical substance, is, IMHO, animal abuse.
Besides, I spoil my BP enough as it is, less start giving them hard earned bong hits, lol....
-
Yeah I'd try to keep the pot smoke out of the tank unless you're dealing with a really nippy snake who needs to "mellow out" (Disclaimer: the aforementioned was all intended as humorous) but seriously, I'm gonna go ahead and say that it is quite likely that THC could damage a snakes motor abilities and do neurological damage. Friends don't let friends drug their pets.
-
Ditto on what Smulkin said--- "Save the smoke for yourself"
LOL
Hehehe- All the stoners come out of the wood work....
-
For some reason the pic of the rat didn't load for me at work, but now that I see it, I swear I used to go out with him.
-
-
As long as you're not like boxing in a room with your snakes they'll be alright. I can't speak for my herps, but I have a cat who comes running when she hears a baggie opening... haha =)
Honestly though, if animals ingest the actual plant it is toxic to them. It is for birds and small animals at least.
-
I smoke weed and my herps don't care.
-
Herps are very nonjudgemental as a rule.
-
I have a bp that's a real nut case so i blow my bong drops into his cage to mellow him out before i clean it. it also works great for when they go off feed because it gives them the monchies. although, sometimes they have trouble hitting the rats lol
-
When did you get a bp Jeff? How old is it? Girl or boy?
-
-
OH- I thought you had changed over to the world of ball pythons..lol
-
Jeff is as much of a stoner as he is a ball-python owner.
-
Well I knew that- just thought I would see what he had to say when I asked him about having a bp...
-
ROFLMAO! Boy you go camping for a few days and you miss the best threads! Simple rule for folks that smoke and think thier animals need to also...........If it can't blink, it can't enjoy it! LOL! No fish, snakes, insects, arachnids.............
However, over the years I have seen pet birds, rats, dogs, cats, ferrets, and chimpanzees (on tv) who seem to enjoy it and will come for a hit when they see or smell what's going down.
Hahaha, but seriously.....people do run a risk of really screwing up thier pets when they try to get them high, so the best answer to this question is probably don't do it.
-
Truthfully man....no don't.
And just don't do it at all....I can't stand people that do drugs.
I was getting into that **** and did the WORST possible thing...Huffing. Lets just say I am still effecting by the THREE times I did it. I am not as sharp as I was before.
DRUGS SUCK
-
i would say no go....erm....last tiem i saw any animals high they got all posesive over there food and started fighting(they were dogs) and also someoen elses dog jsut werided out and it was kinda odd not noing what to do....but i don't think herps would like any form of smoke....
