    Logo - Just Messing Around
I was just messing around today and came up with a little logo. I'm not really planning on using it for anything in the near future, but I wanted to get your opinions/feedback on my initial design more out of curiosity than anything. EB is my first and last initials. What do you think? Your comments, questions, concerns, and smart remarks are welcome!

Completely changed things up, this time with the start of a name in mind: Gemini Morphs

The very first impression your color scheme and arrangement brings to mind is one of those red circles with the line through it, which indicates "stay away" or "not good." Not the sorts of emotion you want to invoke with your logo. The image underneath the red symbol is a little too abstract as well. I sorta get what you were trying to do, but I don't think it quite got there.

I don't really like it, personally. I'd keep working at it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but it looks like something a twelve year old would whip up in Paint. I definitely concur on the color scheme, too. Red over the image is foreboding.

The second image looks satanic to me. I know it's not supposed to be, but that was my first impression. The first looked like a VERY rough draft.

If you plan to be a serious hobbiest or breeder and want to draw positive traffic, it's worth commissioning someone to make one, someone with some type of graphic design background, or someone very artistically gifted.

This. There are plenty of graphic design students that'd do it for pizza money.

Maybe something like this? Where the python is faded in the back/front so you don't need to use a secondary color for the gemini symbol?

After making the last post, I stepped back and put my "customer hat" on and got the same emotions that many of you responded with. Crazy how a little perspective goes a very long way.

Looking better, but still very amateurish. In the absence of any realistic shading on the snake itself I'd leave it black and white.

I took it down to the bare bones outlines in this one. Would you fill in any of the pattern spots on the BP?

Lines definitely need smoothing out, but I think you're getting closer. One thing that's not helping is the fact that it's so F'ing big. Try shrinking it down to at least half that size, the way a logo would actually be. It'll probably look a lot better.

I am a graphic designer, I design probably 7-12 logos a month for different stuff.

A good thing to remember is a logo dosn't have to be detailed. Actually the less, the better in most cases.

Many people want to do too much with a logo. I logo should say what you or your company dose, it should be who you are.

A logo is a brand - think of companies that have extremely recognizable logos. (apple, nike, mcds, etc).

A good logo should be able to be shrunken down and still be recognizable.

I agree. Shrink it down, and see what it looks like then. I do Like the second one roseyreps did. It definitely looks graphic, and it almost looks 3-D! Keep in mind, this is the piece that's going to represent you. Itll be on your web page, business cards, pens, etc,. You def want it to look NICE.

Thanks, Justin. You're right - I am going for simple here. Should I actually take this any further down the road and go for banner/website design, that's when I can go for more detail.

Having said that, I feel like I lose a lot of the life/character in the original logos (to the left) by the time I break it down to the basics (to the right). Any recommendations?

On that note, I was only making them huge for my own sanity. It's much easier for me to make a large image and then shrink it down than make a small image larger without significantly compromising the quality.

This BP's face is too cute; overall I like the logo. My suggestions:

Scale down the BP's face to where you can see more of the "II", and hide the bottom of the BP's neck behind the bottom bar so the whole "II" is seen. I'd stay with a bright back color with a more subtle BP color: keep with the black borders.

:) Agree to disagree. The last couple look like sock puppets to me. I think a redesigned head is in order if I go that simple.

I agree much better. The only thing I see is the word "morphs". Because of the color it is blending in with the blue background. I would either change the color of "morphs" or move "Gemini morphs" up a little to put a little space between "morphs" and the blue background.

I agree. Much better, and much more graphic. With the text, I think outlining the words and maybe making the black "fade" into the blue, or vice versa would look cool.

I agree that something needs to be done with the words in this example, but I'm not sold on just what that is yet . Personally, I like how "morphs" overlaps "GEMINI" (honestly, I had it overlapping more earlier) but I can't figure out how to get it to stand out better. I don't want to add yet another color to the mix, so I'm looking for other options. When I get home I'll play with fading a bit, but I'm thinking that'll look out of place since I have block colors everywhere else.

Any other ideas for the text? Thanks!

    Eric

Edit: I just had another idea for the text that I want to try out! Too bad I'm not home for another several hours to see it in play...

When I first start brainstorming logos, I try to get as many different designs together as possible. I see you have done a lot of iterations of the same basic concept just with different colors/slightly different line work. This kind of thing should be done once the logo is really finalized, much later in the process. If you are just starting a design, don't go for the first one that looks just ~okay~. Really get those creative juices flowing. Even a simple google image search for snakes or gemini might help spark some ideas.

Try to think of something completely different than what you have been doing. I don't think it is a bad logo, but I think there is a lot of disconnect between the gemini symbol and the snake face. They don't relate at all. In my opinion, a logo doesn't really need a foreground and a background. Its all about Meshing your brand with what you are selling. In this case, gemini with snakes. You could totally abstract the gemini symbol with some snakes and I think it would look awesome!

I personally don't like the bp head in there at all. But that's just me.

I like where Kaorte took it, if you're dead set on having a snake in you're logo go for a ouroboros for the circle around the Gemini symbol.
