    Help us choose our females!
We have it down to a few choices just wanting opinions and what has good potential. We are looking for the top 4 choices.

    Spotnose
    Vanilla
    Ghost
    Orange Ghost
    Lemon Pastel
    Pastel Jungle
    Cinnamon
    Chocolate

We are also considering a possible Fire we found.

Fire is a must. Also, at least one or two Enchi girls.

Ghost and Fire. Fire makes EVERYTHING look beautiful, but make sure the one you get is high quality. Ghost on the other hand is one of my all time favorite morphs. Getting a jump on recessive investments is essential and ghost morphs look amazing. Have you seen the black pastel ghosts recently? Yummy....

Our plan is to post up photos of our choices of the top four. Also make sure you vote for four of them. Our plan was to get enchi in our males later on down the road once our females mature.

Cinammon! Everyone needs some cinnamon in their breeding plans! It does so many marvelous and wonderful things!

Unfortunately the Ghost we were looking at is sold, but the orange ghost is still available.

90% of the time (if not more) Ghost and Orange Ghost are the same thing.

So since Ghost is out, the 4th is between the lemon pastel and orange ghost. Knowing orange ghost is ressesive I'm leaning toward the lemon pastel, even though they are both gorgeous. Any thoughts or help? Thanks!

Am I correct in saying that unless we get another OG or het OG we won't see the benefits of this morph?
  • 04-29-2013, 03:27 PM

Yes, you are correct. You will need to pair her with a male het OG or OG. But, by the time she's mature you should be able to pick up a male morph het OG or an OG combo male for a pretty reasonable price (they are already not too bad, depending on the morph). Just to make sure that you are clear, now the majority of breeders work with Ghosts that are Orange line compatible. That means that unless the breeder tells you otherwise, it's a pretty safe bet that anything labeled "Ghost" is probably an Orange Ghost. Also, if you want to work with Ghosts, you may want to stick with stuff that is Orange line compatible. You'll have an easier time finding animals to add to your project, and you may have an easier time selling the babies. At least for us, we only work with Orange Ghosts, and we wouldn't buy a Ghost combo that wasn't compatible with our existing stock. I'm sure many others are in the same boat.

As far as what to start out with as far as females, of course you need to get what you like. But there are also a few other things to consider. Keep in mind that recessive traits tend to hold their value better than dominant/codominant ones. It's always nice to have some visual recessive gene girls in your collection. I wish I had started out with more recessive girls than I did, but I didn't have the money at the time (prices were significantly higher then). Also make sure that whatever you choose is of exceptional quality. Personally, I like that Fire girl, and there are some pretty sweet Fire combos. I also think that if you like Pastels and want one of those, you would be better off to look for either a nice Super Pastel or a 2 gene female with Pastel as one of the genes.

Yoooooo, get a Spotnose or a Vanilla and a two gene combo (Pewter or Firefly). Spotties are rather underrated in my opinion and folks have only just started to scratch the surface with them so if you're looking for something that can set your collection apart from the rest, I'd go with that.
