Switching to a rack system
Soooo, my addiction has been blasting off like a rocket the last month or two..and I've already started looking into what kinds of BPs I want to get in the future. I've started looking into racks and I'm just curious to see some of your rack systems and opinions on what a good rack system consists of. I've been looking at RhinoRaXX and I'm pretty interested in eventually purchasing one. They have heating already installed in them and ready to use as soon as you get it. Does anybody else use these, by chance?

Looking for any and all information in regards to this topic. I just want to learn all I can about maintaining these before I take that dive into purchasing more BPs. :)

I have the ball room rack, I think. It works fine, but not exactly really sturdy IMO.
Re: Switching to a rack system
After deciding I wanted to expand my collection I looked over and over at commercial racks and I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much. I'm building a full melamine 3 sided, 6 tub, 41 qt sterilite rack with 12" THG heat tape. I'm building it super strong and with enough room to upgrade to CB-70 tubs if I choose. I'm building/heating this rack for only $162.00. And I think I've decided on a Herpstat 1 Basic for a total of about 300$. I guess I'm lucky I have a father who is pretty handy with tools.
Re: Switching to a rack system
Is the heating that's implemented in it enough to keep the temps up or do you use another external heating unit like a space heater or just turning the temps up in your house?
Switching to a rack system
With a rack you have to have to have an ambient room temperature of 78-80.

Alright, haha. That's what I was most curious about. The site didn't go much into other ways to provide the proper ambient heating. How do you maintain humidity? I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to do as compared to a glass aquarium.

Humidity has never been an issue for me with tubs.
When I notice a snake going into blue, i move their dishes over their heat tape and I haven't had a bad shed yet.

This sounds so much easier than these darn aquariums! I can't wait to move to racks. :D

Same, well most my snakes dump their water dish over so the whole tub is wet. They shed good but I gotta change news paper daily when they do it. Gotta get wider more stable bowls so they can soak when they wanna I think.

I dunno, I have completely flat bowls, big enough for them to soak and I still get soaked tubs occasionally. Haha

I have two racks from Reptile Basics: http://www.reptilebasics.com/iris-sw...y-or-back-heat and http://www.reptilebasics.com/iris-cb-70-rack and I love both of them. They come with heat, tubs, and free shipping! They also have these little pegs to put in front of the tubs so the snakes can't push the tub open. I have a herpstat 2 running both of them. I ordered both racks on Tuesday and FedEx showed up at my house that Saturday (4 days later).
I'm looking into purchasing an Animal Plastics rack. Those are some of the best racks but you have to have patience with that company. They have a long lead time (8-10 weeks usually) and I'm just not very patient xD
As for the boaphile racks, I hear they aren't very sturdy but I've not owned one personally.

My first rack is still in pieces at the moment, but I have a hard time believing this. My 6 tub 41 qt is gonna be heated by 15" long strips of 12" wide THG heat tape, and is solid 3/4" melamine. I'm even considering placing a thin 1/8" layer of insulated bubble wrap on the inside of all 3 walls during assembly. With 1/3 of the floor space of the tub (150 square inches) covered by heat tape emitting 90-92 degrees via Herpstat 1 I'm pretty confident that my cool side temps are gonna be up at least in the 77-78 range. And to help raise that even further I'll have a drop in(doggy door style) plexiglass door to put on the front to trap some more heat in. This will also act as my serpent security system. All this will be going in a 70 degree room and I know my temps will be spot on because of careful planning. I'll let you know how it goes too. I'm thinking about taking hundreds of photos of the build and making a sticky worthy DIY post of the build.

I run a rack in a cool room(68) .My advise is don't do it. Uth do not heat air well only a few degrees. To keep proper ventilation (one air change per hour min) that heat is mostly lost.
I run hot and cool side uth and probes hot and cool top set and lower due to gain. I use a herpstat 4 to run the rack.
The rack body is insulated and I had to build in an air duct system to control the heating of incoming air. All in all a royal pain.
It now works and self regulates from 62-81 degrees but it was not a easy at all the rack is so heavily mod it would have been far easier to build from scratch.
It once was an ap rack.

Thanks! I'll look more into Reptile Basics. They look just as good, if not better that Boaphile..and they're a tad cheaper. :)

I've had mine since January and I LOVE them. I can't say anything bad about them. I use the sweatbox rack for my juvies/males and the CB-70 for my breeding females.
