This is all from reptile basics, I am trying to setup an auto watering system for my 4 tub rat rack. I have about 15' of 3/16" tubing, 4 large drinking valves, 4 clip mounts, 5 clamp loops, 3 t fittings, 1 L fitting.

I really don't wanna buy their bucket for 20 bucks if I can convert one of my many home depot buckets into one for cheaper. Any info on doing that?

You're going to need the connector to hook up the water reservoir.

I didn't use the "L fittings" in my watering system.

OK cool, I can just use 4 T fittings? should I use a quick connect drain valve or something similar?

You can use any bucket, but if you can find a flat sided bucket, it'll work better.

I have a little bigger setup but to save a few bucks I didn't use the mounting clips. Not to just save money but also to prevent drowning and to allow weanlings access. I used a soldering iron and melted a hole in the tub just big enough that the water nozzel fits in snugly. If the nozzel leaks it won't fill the tub to the top and kill your rats and the babies can reach it easier. Also I recommend the other water nozzels rbi has. They don't seem to drip like those do and are cheaper. However if you use the other nozzel I recommend getting a rebuild kit or buy a couple extras just to have on hand. If one does start to leak you won't have to wait 2 days to get one or pay shipping again. I used a square kitty litter bucket for my resivor and used the quick connect bucket adaptor. That's pretty easiy. Drill hole use clear silicone calking and screw the fitting in. Its been in service for over a year and no problems yet. And btw almost positive you need the L fitting on the bottom tub. Not sure how that would work out using a T unless you are running another line off of it.

I bought the $20 bucket and RBI and really like it. The lid that snaps on the top of it is great for keeping out dust and keeping the water clean.

Also, I recommend adding a 3/16" Inline Filter to screen out any large particles that could cause drips or a flooded bin.

I use the Lowes buckets and lids, they work great. I am watering 102 tubs this way.

I ended up having to remove the in-line filter from my system after about 6 months. I don't know if it's calcium buildup or what on the screen, but the water flow slowed significantly, almost to a dribble after a few months of using the filter. Just something to think about, and if you do use the filter, to watch for.

Same here on the filters, I soak them in CLR for a bit then wash and blow out with compressed air.

Do you use vanilla in your water? I had to quit using vanilla as it plugged up my valves. just my experience.

What's the vanilla for??

some people think vanilla in their water makes em less stanky.

If your water is getting so stinky you need to mask the smell with vanilla, I think you need to change something about your setup....IMHO

You can get those supplies direct from the distributor at edstrom.com and agselect.com (I think AgSelect is the one that carries the Veriflow nozzles, which is the type I recommend).

I didn't use the L fitting, and just used square kitty litter buckets with the quick connect kit. I did end up taking out the filter because I had problems with it slowing/stopping water flow. I have two racks set up, each with their own watering system (instead of sharing the same). One has the mounting clips, the other doesn't. I found the mounting clips more trouble than they're worth. Only thing I use them for now is a couple of my girls like to play with the lickers. I can use the mounting clip to hold the lickers in place and stop them from playing with it as much. A couple times those rotten girls have filled their tubs with about an inch of water from messing with the lickers. (I'm about ready to cull them except they have good sized litters.)
