FINALLY! I got a Lucy!
I knew I'd fall in love with a blue eyed boy...
My friend came through for me, and was able to find a Leucistic Texas ratsnake for me. I got my little boy on sunday.
My little boy is younger than 6 months old, he was popped really easily. He looks really healthy and I fed him 2 pinkie mice yesterday. I was suprised that he was soooo gentle when taking the mice from my hand. It's like he wanted hand-fed lol. I have the tank heater set at 95 degrees, and the temp in the tank is about 85-90 degrees on the warm side... which is warm enough, correct? He climbs a lot, and loves crawling along the edge of the tank/screen.... so I'm going to put more branchesin there

Thanks! Great action shot lol!
Is there anything I should be cautious about (besides avoiding being chomped on lol) or any tips/advice on how to provide the best for my little guy? I'm familiar with Ratsnakes, but I am not sure if there are any specific requirements for a leucisitic.

.
I don't think that it makes any difference if the snakes a Lucy or not as far as husbandry goes. And like most American rats Texas rat snakes are pretty much bullet proof. They have a high metabolism so over feeding isn't really a concern. Mine has been used as a garbage can for unwanted feeders for years and even gets medium rats on occasion without becoming obese. They do fine at room temperature or even at 80+ degrees. Pretty much being chomped on is the only worry I can think of that these snakes pose for a keeper lol.

Good to know.
Glad that he'll be "low maintainance" lol
Speaking of being chomped on.... I got tagged 3 times yesterday, and I took a great open mouth bite stance of Zeejay. I'll post it when I get a chance.

Re: FINALLY! I got a Lucy!
I am sooo happy for you! I know you've been really really wanting one! Yeah, they are very hardy snakes...the only concern youd really have is getting chomped on lol. As for the temps, I don't think they like as high as 95 though...but 85 for the warm side is def fine. Even tho they are awesome snakes, Im slowly getting out of them.....the reason I got into them in the first place many years ago, was because a lucy ball was WAAAY outta my price range. But now, I actually have breedable pair of butters, so lucy balls are definitely in my sights! Just recently sold the last female lucy rat I produced, and still have my original 11 year old male "Zephyr", that I got as a hatchling. I lubs him.

I fell in love with him immediately when I layed eyes on him at my local reptile show! I was buying some mice at my the vendor I asked to find a Lucy rat for me originally, and my dad noticed 2 them before I even did hahaha. I asked the vendor to sex the two, and I chose the male. I held my baby Zeejay at the show and he was calm as a cuccumber, but now that he is home and ate and has some warmth.... he shows his feisty side. lol.
I am soooooo happy to have him, he's so cute and very good looking. I think my vendor really outdid himself with finding the best looking ones he could get. I'm probably just saying that cuz I love my little guy so much hahaha :D
I have his heater set on 95, but inside the tank it is only 90, which is ok, right?

As "frightening" as this was, he calmed down soon after.
He was so calm yesterday that I was able to show him off to my mom, and she (hates snakes) took a few steps closer and was really interested in him.
When I go to put him back in his tank, he will curl around a branch, and then just stare at me. Like he is looking at me in such a way that almost says "don't leave me!"
I think it's kinda cute, and funny
