Tiny Balls?
I was just wondering if anybody else out there has had some experience with tiny ones; ones that either had a deformity that only allowed small prey, hatched out itty bitty and never grew, or just seemed to be "genetically" smaller?

EDIT: Ok now to be mature: I think its possible for them to thrive. In the wild they'd probably die though. Its like a runt in a litter of dogs.

I've rescued extreamly underweight ones if that's what you mean lol

I know a guy that hatched out a 30g bumblebee. It was really cute but I dont know if it did well or not. I am gonna have to ask him.

Re: Tiny Balls?
We have a bumblebee we were given by a friend of ours...she hatched with a deformity and couldnt keep food down. We thought she was gonna die. She no longer looks skinny, and eats tiny prey items on a semi regular basis. Shell be 1 year in less than 2 months and she weighs 160 grams.

Re: Tiny Balls?
I think little balls are adorable. If anybody has any tiny balls, pics would be wonderful. To see them side by side with another of say, the same age to get a comparison of size.

I've got a couple of females that are quite small. I've had them for around 9 years now. Both were wild caught adults and tend to be very poor feeders, however I've gotten several clutches of eggs from them. They seem to hover around the 800-1000 gram range and appear to be healthy in every other way.
Here's one of them after laying a clutch of eggs

Here's the clutch she laid.

I know this seems controversial, but has anyone tried breeding two of these "dwarf" snakes together? Or breeding a tiny male (born tiny) to a regular sized female?
I'm curious if it could be genetic. Maybe we could make the "Micro Ball" or something. A ball python that doesn't get bigger than 500g.
Just a thought. I'm sure most of you might consider the very small ones to be runts and inadequate for breeding. I'm not saying its right, but it would be cool to make a smaller ball python, similarly to how they have a dwarf retic.

Re: Tiny Balls?
my smallest hatchling was 23 grams. I didn't wait very long when it didn't feed on it's own. after a few assist feedings, it started feeding by itself. when I sold it, it was doing really well and had a great feeding response. I held back a few hatchlings that were much smaller than their siblings. if you come and look at my collection. you couldn't pick them out.

Well... I think age is more important then size. When I got them I thought they were young and I spent years trying to get them 'up to size' but they never grew any bigger so I just decided to breed them. Turned out that despite their size, they were fully functional adults in every way.

Do these tiny babies have to be cared for differently than a regular sized hatchling?

IMO, yes and no. I mean, their care is identical to any other hatchling, you just have to scale everything down. However, if there were complications at hatching, or deformities or anything like that, then yes special care would be given.

Re: Tiny Balls?
my first ball i got was 68 grams and it refused for for 9 to 10 weeks it was down to 41 grams and it just looked super skinny so i had to assist feed. only did it twice and now she eats everytime i offer she is about 250 grams and i only got her last august. she also finally switched to rat so hopefully she takes of and get big soon.
that cinnapin is amazing and it was so cute and little.

What's sad is I see 18g baby and think that's huge... Had a 3g and a 4g corn hatchlings a couple years ago that I picked up... When they can't even eat a pinkie mouse, life gets interesting.
I like the micro-bp idea. Would be interesting to see if it is genetic in balls. Then again, I have seen lines of corns that throw small babies and never get much larger than 300 grams. These tend to be the more heavily linebred/inbred strains though. Also, you'd have to get ones that are genetically smaller and not just say an incubation issue. Hmm... Might be a project to start once I actually have a decent breeding pool. Getting new morphs in would be the hardest thing though as either you'd have to find a small representation of that (and hope that it's good) or breed it in and go a few generations to knock the size back down after crossing to a normal sized adult of said morph.

Tiny Balls?
My lesser boy was 17g out of egg. He was also a twin, but his brother didn't make it.
