Normal to have a little blood on a clean shed? Pictures given.
-
It's not normal for them to bleed. Do you feed your snake live? Maybe a mouse/rat bit him and he shed the scab and he started to billed if not the. I'm not sure what to say.
-
I have never seen that before...I'm really not sure what would cause that besides an open wound, or something to do with the vent. Did you check the snake? I'm not an expert but I would say not normal. But wait for other people to chime in
-
I dont feed it live food and i checked it over and it is completely fine, but still unsettling of coarse.. :/

Re: Normal to have a little blood on a clean shed? Pictures given.
I've only had one snake ever bleed and that was his skin getting ripped. I would change his bedding to paper towels to see if it's an ongoing issue
throughly inspect the body head and vent. Any redness in the vent area?
while ya have him out might as well sterilize the tank/tub.
Blood is not normal in a shed by any means. It's most likely a scab that pulled off. When they shed their scabs shed also and they regrow the scab.
-
Okay I will change to paper towels. I use cypress right now and it was a clean shed, so i thought that meant temps and everything are appropriate? I checked everything though and she looked clean as a whistle. The blood mark is by the neck though. I was thinking maybe blood from a meal got on it and then it came off when she shed. The blood is on the outside of the shed though, so it doesnt look like it was a scab. I usually get the hopper warm enough to where its bleeding a little out of its nose and maybe that got on her? But doesnt really make sense to me still..

And I just cleaned the tub yesterday.

What is your humidity at? Maybe give him/her and the cage, a water spray down once or twice a day. Or just during she'd.
Other then that idk
-
One of my ball python will occasionally shed with a little blood on his vent. I think she pulled too hard. And last shed she actually poop inside her shed..... she is other wise fine and i have been told vent can get a little bloody during shed when they are too rough with themselves
-
Honestly, don't let people worry you.
That is a small amount of blood, and you looked him over and he appears fine. He is fine. The fact that it's a full shed suggests it has nothing to do with humidity, and really, get rid of the cypress? What exactly is that going to achieve?
I wouldn't worry about it. I have had small amounts of blood on my snake sheds, like mentioned, it was from near the vent.

This is incorrect, it is NOT abnormal for there to be a little bit of blood from the vent during a shed. Happens every now and then do a couple of my snakes, I would not worry at all. With the small amount of blood in the pictures there is absolutely nothing to worry about. You could try raising the humidity next time she sheds, but I dont think that will matter.
-
As was stated before a small amount of blood from the vent area during/after shed is perfectly fine.
-

I'll be the 4th to say, it's not unusual to see a bit of blood when shedding from the vent area. Your snake is fine.

Your snake is fine. Itīs not abnormal at all and if you were keeping your BP on newspaper the same would happen, it would even be more obvious as you would find blood smears on the newspaper.
-
Re: Normal to have a little blood on a clean shed? Pictures given.
Little bit of blood from the vent at shed is fine, and normal. No need to worry.
-

Yup completely normal, don't get worried.

Hey buddy, don't tell me that I'm incorrect... If you would have read the snake has blood near its neck on the shed not its vent... Last time I checked none of my snakes bleed when they shed... So don't tell my I'm incorrect cause intact you're incorrect.
-
I'm going to be the 100th person to chime in and say it's normal around the vent. I don't know why other members were saying otherwise.
They're pretty rough on themselves during shed.

Just because your snakes don't bleed when they shed (which they probably do from time to time) does not make this fellow incorrect. I see drops of blood with almost every shed. It is very common and completely normal. Sometimes they might get blood on other parts of the shed because they bleed from the vent, the last part to shed.
You are the one who said it was not normal, when in fact it is completely normal!! So, by that statement alone, yes you are INCORRECT.
-
Sorry guys. Haha. I'm cranky.

I don't think you understand how shedding works. When they bleed from the vent, the drops of blood get on other pieces of the shed. So you could see drops of blood anywhere on the shed.
It is still completely normal and yes, I can read.
You need to calm down.

No need to swear or yell. So your telling me that when the rest of the shed rolls over the vent on its way off, there's no way blood could get anywhere else? Try a little common sense.
-
Re: Normal to have a little blood on a clean shed? Pictures given.
Haha " I'm all hyped up on Mountain Dew"
but I think OPs suggestion is more likely. Blood from mouse got on his neck. And I have a pretty good understanding of how much snakes bleed. One of my males is missing a good bit of scales on his neck area
Sorry bout that. Haha

Whether it's from a mouse or the vent, it doesn't matter. Point is, the OP looked her over and she's fine. Even if it was a from a wound somewhere else, (which i doubt), it already healed up which bps tend to do fairly quickly with proper husbandry.
I know I sound like a hypocrite when I say this because of my previous posts here, but they can live for 20+ years in captivity for a reason.

Welllll i can see you guys have been busy... I think we have come to the conclusion that either way, whether the blood was from a mouse or the vent the snake is going to be ok :gj: thanks guys! Ive just never had this happen before and it got me a little concerned.

It's not normal to to bleed on their neck... So infact you're wrong :(

Okay, one more time since you didn't seem to get it the last 100 times. THE BLOOD DID NOT COME FROM THE NECK. Drops of blood from the vent will often get on various parts of the skin that has already shed.
This is a perfect explanation and makes perfect sense. The OP has inspected the snakes neck and saw absolutely nothing, yet you still keep insisting that it must be some kind of neck injury. If there was an injury, there would be evidence of it. Bleeding from the vent is extremely common during shed and explains the DROP (Emphasis on DROP) of blood on the shed skin.
Why is this so hard for you to understand?
