I was searching around and I found a sterilite container that looks like it would make a great cage! Heres the url; http://www.sterilite.com/Category.ht...ctCategory=35#
Its a 116 quart container, the model number is 1990.

Yeah, it'd work, might be slightly too small tho.

Oh, well that changes my plans. Now I'll have to find another one.

It's a good size until your bp reaches 4'. Then it's time to upsize.

http://www.sterilite.com/Category.ht...uctCategory=40 #1996 is a pretty good one, doesnt offer as much height, but is great for non arboreal snakes that won't get too huge!

The standard breeding tub of most breeders is the Iris CB-70 used in freedom breeder racks which is almost identicle in floor space for the tub you found . It should be more than adequate for the life of your ball python

From what I understand 116QT should be very nice, I have a 90QT right now which is about 20 gallons I believe.

I have two 1990's for my ball pythons. They are cool tubs. You probably will need to upsize but not for a year or so. I got mine at target. One thing you need to look out for thought is in the middle edge of the lid it is kinda loose. I recommend getting a couple of bolts and wingnuts to help secure the lid.

Yeah really need to secure the middle of these sterilite lids or you are asking your BP to run away. I'm having trouble finding adequate "thingies" to secure my lid right now, that isnt a pain to take off to take my BP out o_O Any suggestions?

Go to the fabric section and/or the camping section of your local Walmart or whatever. They'll sell nylon belt/strap material and buckles that you can use.

Which I would assume go around the entire enclosure correct?

What about using those bungee cord things, you could wrap a few of those around the enclosure. And than just unhook them to open it.

Yea, I have to use it on one of mine & it's just a strap normally used for wrapping around a sleeping bag or something like that. Works great.

Or you can use your soldering iron to make holes and use Velcro strips that are pretty darn secure (especially if you use a few instead of one) and yet easy to undo. That's how I secure the cage for my larger crested geckos, not that they're as strong as pythons, but it should work for snakes as well.

    And by the way, my apologies for hijacking this thread FTH, I got over excited about my container security, hopefully it helped you too ^_^;;

So.... how about those 116QT Sterilite containers heh, heh...

What are the measurements on that tub & where, exactly, would one go about attaining one??

Hope my responses are helpful. :) I think the 116 qt. containers are just fine for a good long time. If you end up with a 5' ball python, you probably want to up-size, but for a hatchling or juvenile, they are absolutely more than adequate. There are a number of good approaches for security, just pick the one that's right for you.

But yeah, I'm going to buy one or two of the 116qt. tubs. I hope I can find a bigger cage.

OK kids, give it to me straigt on the housing issue
That's a great idea... think I'll try that on my next enclosure. I probably wouldn't use it for a full grown python... they're probably too strong for it though it's hard to say for sure.

Eddie the CB70 is 33.5 inches long 18.5 wide and 6.5 inches deep I forget Iris's web page url at the moment , but you can purchase them singly directly from freedom breeder and I have seen them in various dept stores. more than likely you would only want to use a tub of this depth in a rack type setup which is by the way the cheapest most efficient way of houseing more than one snake take your heat lamps ,pads ect add it all up and you have enough to construct a simple yet very functional rack
