Flabby BP
So this is gonna sound weird. I picked up a 2900g proven normal female a few months ago. She is by far my biggest snake (my others are all <1400g). Is it normal for a BP this size to be all, well, flabby? It's like her skin is really loose and not tight. It kind of just hangs down the side. She has been a consistent weight since I got her, and she just shed no problem last night. She has been off food since December. She allegedly laid eggs early last summer. Is it possible she just has gained the weight back yet? Or is this normal and I'm just not used to larger BPs? I can snap some pics if it would help.

Yes, pics might help. Is she active? When you hold her, does she feel muscular?

This is the best I can for a pic. Check out the tail. She how it seems like she has some extra skin chillin out there? She kind of like that her whole body. She's active and seems perfectly healthy and strong, but she doesn't feel like she's one long strand of muscle like my other snakes. But like I said she is by far the biggest and oldest so maybe I'm just being a noob?

Re: Flabby BP
Does she feel kind of "mushy" or squishy, sort of like a bag of water?

Yes! That's it. That's the description I was looking for.

Re: Flabby BP
Sounds and looks a lot like a snake that's laid eggs more recently than last summer.

Re: Flabby BP
If she's eating, drinking, and defecating normally, sounds like you might just need a bigger enclosure for that girl. She might need the larger space and the opportunity to move around more.

Is it mostly at the back end? That is kind of the deflated-tire look that my girls get after laying. My girls look pretty firm now, but they're also down in the 1600 gram range.

Re: Flabby BP
I was told she laid in July. I know there's no dead set answer to this but how long does it usually take a snake this size to get back up to weight assuming no feeding strike?

Re: Flabby BP
I bought some girls that had recently laid and they looked like that. It took them maybe a month to firm up. Can you verify with the breeder it was so recent? How are her eating habits? How does the stool look? When did she last poo?

She hasn't eaten since I've had her (3 months). I near told early December was her last meal (small rat). Like I said she's maintained weight for the time I've had her. I'll just keep offering food. I bought her to breed her but I guess I'll make sure she puts some more weight on first.

Oh, yeah, she's just not back up to weight. Did she lay a huge clutch?
It took my smaller girls a few months to completely lose the flabby look, and they were pretty good about eating. Older adults tend to go on feeding strike in response to a change in environment. She'll lose the flab when she starts eating again.
