I took the plunge! Get a load of this.
I made my first online animal purchase tonight. Thanks Joel from Legacy Reptiles for putting up with all of my questions and concerns. I had plenty of them.

I have 1/2 down payment on him to hold him until the cage is here. Joel was very open to keeping him for me until I'm set up.

It's not my picture it belongs to Legacy Reptiles but it will be my snake.

    Have a looksy.

Thanks, I got really lucky with a random e-mail. My kids helped me pick it. Its an August 2012 Barranquilla Colombian male. It's from Rio Bravo lines and the Joel and Orlando from Legacy Reptiles owned him they follow the same views as Gus Rentfro when it comes to localities.

I could not be happier with the purchase. Now I gotta wait.

She looks incredible!! In a rush, can't read everything, but what are the genetics exactly? I don't know much about boa genes as of yet

The genetics are techically normal Colombian. This is a Barranquilla Colombian. These boas are found in the Barranquilla area of Colombia so you could refer to them as a specific locality. Colombians are not usually broken down that far by locality because there are so MANY areas in such a large country. However, there are a few breeders that work with BCI that keep the more specific localities of Colombians pure. Rio Bravo and Legacy Reptiles are two of them that do this. Barranquillas are known for being particularly colorful and Gio's is certainly a prime example!! ;)

If I were to buy a straight normal Colombian boa with no specific genetics in mind, it would be a Barranquilla! :P

It's from the Barranquilla area of Colombia. The Northwest area where the Andes mountains become lower. Although He is considered a BCI, in Vincent Russo's book THE COMPLETE BOA CONSTRICTOR, he goes into detail about that area and mentions how Colombians from that area differ from other areas because he feels there is an overlap of BCI and BCC. So yes, it's a BCI, but it according to Russo differers from other BCI because the 2 types interbreed. I consider myself the very happy owner of a common boa. To make it more confusing, Jeff Ronne, another well know boa guy considers ALL Colombian boas BCC and has his theories on the matter.

I don't have the total genetic answer for you. Really a taxonomist has to examine the situation. I tend to go with Russo and Rentfro when it comes to boa knowledge but there are certainly other opinions.

The Boa I have is an August 2012 breeding from Gus Rentfro. Joel and Orlando at Legacy Reptiles had him in their collection, but Orlando said they just had too many males to care for and had to let him go.

That's just plain good luck for me.

I also was seriously looking at a boa from Morti of Primareptilia. He was very helpful, and had a nice couple of males. In the end my kids were the pickers and I paid a little more, but I think I'm going to be quite thrilled when the un-boxing day comes.

The whole BCC-BCI thing is quite a topic. I also read in Mark O'shea Boas and Pythons of The World that he has similar views to Jeff Ronne and I'm not 100% sure Philippe de Vosjoli stands I'd have to re-read his book.

I consider myself a BCI owner and am just happy to have something I personally think is beautiful to look at.

Orlando at Legacy said the boa was very good natured. YaaaaY!

Re: I took the plunge! Get a load of this.
That is funny my wife has Facebook but I do not I was doing it all by email and looking at their regular website. My kids ended up really liking this snake so I started to get frantic and email more frequently. Joel finally got back to me and said it was mine then I didn't know how to do the PayPal and got frantic again because I've never done it before for an animal purchase so when I hit the pay pal link the web page came up. I figured it out finally. For whatever reason I looked at Legacy on my wife's Facebook and saw all the chat. I made 50% payment to hold the snake. I think I'm paying about $35 more than Facebook price said but I'm ok with it. I hope it gets large for a male. Good 6 footer would be nice. I was close to getting a boa from Morti but the kids liked the one we picked more so I paid a bit more. Can't wait to get him. Agony of waiting but I want my setup running at 110% for this special guy.

No breeding here. This is the last snake unless I want to live alone LOL!

Me thinks you will have plenty of beauties after seeing what your breeding plans are.

I will take lots O pics though.
