Why I hate people
I just got a baby BP from this girl. The little guy was stuck in multiple sheds. Really old hard aspen with more sheds in it. No UTH or even lights. A terrible water bowl and no hide. I told her what she was doing wrong trying to help educate her. She got pissed and stopped talking to me telling me she knows what she is doing. So I made a fake number told her she needs to get it to someone who can actually care for it. Got the little guy and his set up for 150 http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/veqesuna.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/ze2e4ere.jpg
After I gave him a bath and actually got him in a proper set up. I wrapped a warm wash cloth around him and he practically did the rest to get his shed off. He wasn't happy with me getting anywhere close to his head so that I will work on today but he is more active and looks a little better http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/mu6y2y3a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/u2yqujum.jpg
Head still looks bad but I'm going to have someone run a fecal test for parasites and what would you guys recommend for the eye caps?! Sorry for the long post lol

He actually looks like he might be getting ready to shed again. I would provide a humid hide in his enclosure and a bowl big enough to soak if he pleases. I wouldn't soak him deliberately again, so maybe his next shed will go better (along with the eye caps). The humid hide will also help him work off what's left that's stuck to him.

use a warm most washcloth and gently rub if that doesn't work you will have to use tweezers to remove them.
i hate people who do that to their snakes  i am glad you got that little one of her hands.

no!!! Definitely do not use tweezers unless you really know what you're doing. You could rip the scale that goes over the eye right off. Just leave the eye caps. Provide him with a simple, clean setup and the eye caps should come right off with his next shed.

i meant using the Twizzlers as a last resort

Oh ok. Well you made it sound like "Use the wash cloth and if that doesn't work, you'll have to use tweezers"
Personally, id just leave them be until he sheds.

I doubt Twizzlers will be any better than tweezers. :P The OP is better off waiting until the BP is rehydrated and has gone through at least one shed before trying to forcibly remove the eye caps. As Mike said, it's way too easy too permanently destroy the living scale that protects the eye.
-
Yeah don't use tweezers, for real. With good humidity it should come off with his next shed
-
Re: Why I hate people
NO tweezers!!!! Leave them alone. Give him a humid hide, and so long as humidity is right he should get them off next time. Messing with them can do more harm than good.

Kudos to OP for picking up this poor baby. ;)
-
Yeah, I definitely agree to just leave him be. If they don't come off in his next shed, I've seen videos where people show you how to remove them with Q-tips. However, I haven't needed to try it myself, has anyone needed to do that before?
-
OK sorry for the confusing
-
"I doubt Twizzlers will be any better than tweezers" sorry typing mistake
-
I can't stand people in that position charging 150 dollars for a snake and setup they probably paid less than that for when they bought it all.
You've done a good deed. Congratulations on your new snake!
-
actually they could easily have paid more than 150 if bought from a pet store. small normals go for 80 or so around here by themselves. hope the poor thing gets better.

Sorry, I couldn't help but joke. :) Autospell does some funny things sometimes.
To the OP - Good luck with your new baby and great job on the rescue!

Re: Why I hate people
Kudos on rescuing and giving the snake a fighting chance. Wish there were many more willing to bend over backwards. Just my 2 cents, but I agree. She didn't get that way overnight, so don't try to "save" her overnight. You're doing a lot right and I am sure she is in good hands. Let's face it, snakes do have bad sheds once in a while...even if we're the most anal about temps and humidity. Just the way it is. I have had to help a snake or two out of a bad shed but have only had to assist the head a few times. Normally if I really bump up the humidity for a few days, they will get out of it themselves...
For the times I have had to help a stuck head shed...I simply soaked the snake for 30 minutes in a shallow tub with a lid and 1/2"-1" of luke warm water. I included a wet washcloth inside the soak tub. I then VERY GENTLY ran the tip of the washcloth from the tub from the tip of the snout => back to help the stuck head skin. If it didn't come off easily, they went back in for another 30 minutes with fresh luke warm water and tried a second time with the washcloth. Usually this will do it. If not, keep the humidity up in the enclosure for a few days and once again let the snake try to do it naturally. Only one time did I have to repeat this procedure a few days later...but it did finally come loose. Definitely do not use tweezers.
This should be a last resort, but can be done if done carefully.
Good luck!

Get a sizable Tupperware container and wet a towel (not paper towel) with warm water and put it in.
Place snake in and close top. You can make holes if you want.
Leave it in there and make sure it stays warm on a hot spot so it stays warm and humid.
Leave him in there overnight.
In the AM all should be off. Works like a charm. May be bad if there are a couple or more eye socket sheds stuck.

Re: Why I hate people
"I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! HE'S FINE!!".....clearly not. Just looking at the poor little guy, you can see that he is definitely not okay. It enrages me that people can let their pets get to this condition and think that they aren't doing anything wrong. I applaud you for picking this guy up and taking care of him! :)

Aww you rescued the little guy that I saw in another thread. Good for you. I'd let the little guy chill and get rehydrated. And then if he is shedding again just make sure to up the humidity ;). Let us know if he eats for you XD

Re: Why I hate people
Quick update: took him to my awesome local pet store. They actually got the eye caps off because there were 2-3 sheds on them and we're starting to wrinkle. We got the mouth rot out, went and got some brown listerine and betadine. Going to let him rest for the rest of today. I'm going to do more research on RI's to make sure he doesn't have one. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/nada3yhu.jpg

Re: Why I hate people
Update on the rescue. The little guy is looking 100 times better. He no longer looks dehydrated he hasn't refused a meal yet! Full of life when you hold him. He is still a little sketched out when you first pick him up but he is getting a lot better. Mouth rot is almost completely done and he has no parasites or anything that will hurt him from here on out!

Re: Why I hate people
When I got my ball python, this is what she looked like. No water. Didn't get fed right. So much shed on her you couldn't see her colors. No heat source. Mites. Scars. I'm glad you have that snake now. It will live a much happier and longer life! :)
-
Wow; the seller is a special kind of stupid, to let a snake that young have so many problem-sheds in the short time it's been alive.
Congrats on getting it to a better home. :)

Why I hate people
I found a great method for removing eye caps every time without risk of injury. It was on YouTube and basically you to take a spray bottle and get it halfway between jet and mist and spray from behind the head towards the nose and spray the eye cap and continue to spray until you see you liquid between the cap and the eye. Then very gently run with a q tip.
-
Re: Why I hate people
^^ I would never recommend messing with eye caps. Leave them be and they should come off next shed.

Re: Why I hate people
That poor kid. Glad hes in good hands now.:D You did a noble thing by paying $150 to rescue him. And btw, Id skip out on using the Twizzlers....he looks like more of a gummy bears-type-of-guy....:P (sorry I couldn't help it)
