i was told the black pastel and het red are allelic, is that true?

Re: question for ppl who know about the onyx and breed em
they are allelic, all the genes involved.
http://www.owalreptiles.com/complexes.php
so, onyx is black pastel het red axanthic. when you breed that to a normal, you get 50% black pastel 50% het red axanthic. now you throw in cinnamon.
should be:
25% cinnamon black pastel
http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...stel-cinnamon/
25% cinnamon het red axanthic
http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...-red-axanthic/
25% black pastel
25% het red axanthic
the genetic wizard at world of ball pythons is wrong in this case. It doesnt take the gene complex into account, for example, in this pairing you cannot get normals, and a "black pastel cinnamon het red axanthic" is impossible. its like breeding mystic mojave to lesser, just that the genetic wizard finally gets the potion stuff right ^^
very good pairing, good luck! black pastel cinnamon is awesome, and i suspect it does not have the issues that a super black pastel or a super cinnamon sometimes has, you know, duckbill. and cinnamon het red axanthic is also nice.

I feel like it may be difficult to tell the onyx from the gargoyles when they pop out. Good luck on that pairing tho.

Re: question for ppl who know about the onyx and breed em
just wondering if either of u have bred them?
-
Re: question for ppl who know about the onyx and breed em
i didnt breed them. But then, gene complexes arent particularly complicated, when you understand one you understand them all.

Re: question for ppl who know about the onyx and breed em
I understand them, what i think u dont understand is that its yet to be known to be 100% allelic. I know how genetics work, i was just trying to see if there are others who have bred a onyx to a normal so far in the last couple months to a normal female to verify 100%

12.5% 1/8 Cinnamon Black Pastel (Barnhart Line)
12.5% 1/8 Het Red Axanthic
12.5% 1/8 Cinnamon Het Red Axanthic
12.5% 1/8 Het Red Axanthic Black Pastel (Barnhart Line)

Re: question for ppl who know about the onyx and breed em
a friendly user sent me a link to the calculator at owalreptiles, thanks for that, ill try to post the results here:
if it doesnt work, here:
http://owalreptiles.com/genetics.php#31,97&30
i guess one of the calculators is wrong, then ;)

now u know why i asked the question and asked for ppl who have bred the snake, its not cause i dont know about genetics in general, but if its truly allelic :gj:
-
I still haven't been given a definite answer myself. Everything I've heard from anyone has all been speculation. I do believe that it is in fact allelic, but I've yet to be shown concrete proof that it is either.
