C02 Chamber Help

So I've been reading some of the other threads regarding DIY CO2 chambers, and I just have some questions.

I'm hoping to order most of the supplies online and get the tank filled...somewhere. Any suggestions?

What else do I need? I've read about release valves, but I'm not quite sure what it is, or how it works in conjunction with the remote and CO2 tank or if I actually need one at all.

I have plenty of containers I can use as a kill chamber, so I'm not worried about that. Just want to get all the right equip. to go with the CO2 tank.

I got my tank at Walmart, as it was the cheapest place I could find. You also need some sort of container to put the critter in. I have a small plastic tub with an airtight locking lid. I drilled 2 holes in the top, one to introduce CO2 through, and the other to release the air inside. On the remote hose, the end of it uncouples, so you don't really need any sort of tubing, just a hole big enough in the lid to fit the end of the hose. I get the tank refilled at a sporting goods store, except I can't say the name because of the censor! :D Starts with a D, ends with a K, lol. I haven't calculated how many "sessions" I get out of a tank, but I'd guess it at around 50? I have a 20oz. tank, but it all depends on the size of your tub and how you do it.

I don't have a release valve or anything. I place the rodent(s) in the tub, latch the lid, and turn the valve until I just barely hear it hissing. I keep it at that low level until I see the rodents are unconscious (which is determined by tapping on the side, gently shaking the tub, and/or and making a loud squeaking noise with my mouth and looking for any reactions), then I open the valve a half turn or so for a few seconds to flood the tub. Then I turn it off, wait until there's been no breathes for a minute, then pull them out and make sure the heart is stopped. If I have more to euthanize, I blow into the tub to get rid of excess CO2, then repeat.

This method takes longer than placing them in an already filled chamber, as some people do, but I feel it's more humane. With the pre-filled chamber, they are unconscious in seconds, but they seem to gasp and look for better air during those few seconds. With the slow fill, they look as though they are just getting tired with some heavy breathing, and lay down calmly.

I'm clear on how the chamber works and how to properly euthanize, I'm just not sure if I need anything other than these two items to administer the co2 safely.

So I should just need the canister and a remote? And of course a plastic kill bin.

I think I know of a welding shop somewhere. I'll have to call and check if they will fill a co2 tank.

I just bought a remote line can I cut off the end that's supposed to go into the paint ball gun? I tried taking it apart its solid

My DIY thread has a full list of what I used step by step pics and a price list of each element. Don't want to take five minutes to look at it then I don't want to take 2 hours documenting a 30 minute job a second time

I've read tons of different ones I can't figure out how the connect for the paintball gun comes off. I've tried tons so that's why I asked if cutting it off would be fine.

Here's a picture of what the end of the hose looks like with the attachment taken off:

From what I remember, you have to pull BACK on the sleeve around the joint in order to pull the end attachment off.

I have those two apart I was trying to get the piece connected to the hose off. I'm now guessing I don't got to, http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/28/ege3y6yn.jpg see this is what I was trying to pull apart.

Hey, no need for this. I read all those threads. Yours and many others. If you don't want to help, then don't post :/

A lot of the DIYs are contradicting and use different pieces. Don't assume I didn't read your thread just because I am trying to clarify how this thing goes together.

Sita, thanks, that picture is helpful. I'm fairly certain I know what pieces I need now.

Just the tank and the remote line.

edit: I realize you don't need this but I modified the other designs slightly-

What I did to make the air get to the bottom of the chamber is buy a pvc piece at Lowe's that screws on to the quick release valve you can see pictured above. That piece fits into a 1/2 in (?) PVC pipe which I put a T connector at the end of and 2 short pieces coming off of that. Basically it makes it so the CO2 doesnt burst out of the pipe because the T piece splits it up and breaks the initial burst, and the 2 exits off the T makes the CO2 distribute nice and evenly low at the bottom of the chamber.

This is really what I wanted to know.

I was reading this page: http://www.thereddragonsden.com/co2.htm and they talk about CO2 release valve.. and I can't really figure out what that is or why I needed it.

I sincerely apologize it was late and I was sprouty, it had been a long day. I think I misunderstood what you were saying and popped off hastily.

The 'release valve' is the knob on the end that connects to the tank.

Option 1: you buy a 'paintball remote line' which comes with the line, quick connect end, and release valve on the other end

Option 2: you buy just the 'release valve' and fit it to some tubing on your own. When I was at the paintball store they said it was 20 bucks or so for the remote line and 17 for the release valve alone. It seemed worth it to me to have the whole thing assembled and outfitted to control the kind of pressure the tank puts out.
