Vikings. History channel

Any one else watch this? I randomly turned it on a marathon thing this morning and I wanna be a Viking now lol

Ah, all my friends who I watch Game of Thrones with started watching this and keep telling me that I need to get into it too. :P

Watch it! I haven't seen game of thrones I don't have starz or hbo:( this is the first day I watched it but now I can't stop at least this is last one on until ten lol

Don't have HBO either, I just torrent everything because I have loose morals.

Haha I should torrent them onto my tablet for work time viewing!! I thought it was a girl type show like the sparkling vampire movies so I never thought to try but if its filled with awesome ill have to. Btw why can't I be a Viking :(

Oh boy, GoT is far from sparkling vampires (thank god) but it does have the soap opera-esque, romancy moments now and again. There's enough killing and screwing and badarssery to balance it all out though.
Guess I'll go see if there are any torrents for Vikings then. Haha.

Hey bear pelt is on I got a sword an axe and an awesome fox fur cape now to the boats! An on the way to the boats I will use my tablet to check for torrents!

I watched a little bit 20 minute ago before I had to leave. I want to download it now. It was awesome...

And speaking about Vikings, whatever happened to that BP.net user who wrote all of his posts in old English and pretended to be a viking? LOL.....

I watched 4 episodes and hated myself for it. Such a waste of time.

I have no idea who this is but I am sorely disappointed they aren't a prevalent member on the forum.

I was super excited for the show but it left me feeling very dissappointed. I think they could have done a better job. The first episode was extremely slow but it was the first episode and I gave it a few more to try and meet my expectations and it just wasnt happening for me so I abandoned it....

i'll be a viking with you. let's start building our ship. lol a little off topic, but we just got a beer in at my store by ommegang called "Game of Thrones" based after the TV show. we've been sellin it like crazy.

I think I missed first episode or caught tail end. Tv generally disappoints me when I get excited about a show I kinda randomly found it with out knowing prehand about it, it has slow times but all in all I want to be a Viking ;) haha

Dude I live next to Lake Superior its the farthest inland port we can build it in hiding on a side river and when the time comes well snake out way to the coast along the shipping routes we will be in England in no time! Their gold and goods are ours! I'm gonna have to torrent Game I think

Is a nice documentary... not overwhelming but ok....

Before I move to US i was in Viking/Slavic society in Poland...

Yea You can be a Viking... Going to Fairs Tournament and Such... but those in central and Northen Europe are not for posers... People Fight whole battles with Sharp swords axes and other weapons... Accidents are common... last decade was couple death as well ...I's not silly reenactment with foam sword and plastic bows...

I don't fight... Being one-eyed (cancer when i was kid) I don't gonna risk loosing another in Battle lolz... So i took role of Viking Priest and stick to rites, Norse mythology, Runes and Norse Kitchen... and to Bow.. I'm actually decent archer...

Fun Times... Still wearing Thor's Hammer on my neck and ask Runes for advice time to time...

I believe that You can find good and historically accurate Viking Groups in US as well... I highly recommend that type of activity for every history and weapon maniac.... Is really fun when You do it right and with safety precautions....

Man that sounds like a blast! I need to move over seas haha USA like to make things to safe I wanna go do that! In mn we have a Viking themed bed a breakfast type thing my uncle did most the iron work for them (he's a black smith) I helped him bring them some pieces once its such a cool place it's a converted church and they go all out with it the owners are awesome people

i made it maybe 10 min into the 1st ep. b4 I gave up on it. I normally will give a show atleast 2-3 eps. but I just couldn't do it with this show.

I've watched it but it doesn't capture the attention well.

If you want to see a bunch of sex and some bloody fighting, then you'd probably like it.

So far, I think it's been hodge-podge, with the Vikings being pretty generic. They occasionally get some details right but it makes it jarring because it doesn't fit so well with the rest. They throw in gratuitous scenes like a random rape of a slave for no reason other than "Look! We have a rape scene! Hard core!". The fighting scenes are... well.. I don't like to say lousy, because they aren't lousy, but they definitely look like a TV show budgeted fight scene.

Then there's massive inaccuracies that seriously bug me. I can't address them, because it'd be spoilers, but there's certain actions taken by high ranked characters that would never happen. Every person in the show has the "dirty face" syndrome used by every cheap filmmaker for any scene set before modern times. Clothing and armor and etc could use some help.

The scenery is grand. Some of the sets and set dressing is really cool. There's action. There's a main character to identify with and support. The side characters seem to have some personality. Personally I'd like to see some more female characters, as Viking women were as hard core as the men, and the show has ONE, with all other females playing the typical weak females or evil conniving females. But the one is awesome. There's also a pretty steady plotline to follow and wonder if this will succeed, if that guy will do this thing, where will they end up, will this work, things to keep you interested in a plot.

If you want some Viking info and to participate in Viking stuff, check out your local SCA branch. We have information on every aspect of Viking life and plenty of members that choose Viking personas. The only thing we don't do is fight with live steel, because that'd be stupid. Generally the live steel fighting is still not "really" fighting with swords and axes, because the purpose of fighting with swords and axes is to injure and kill your opponent. So you're pulling blows and choreographing things to some extent because no one wants to die while playing a game. The SCA fighting uses rattan weapons so full body blows can be exchanged without killing anyone. And our arrows hurt, even if they don't have points to pierce and bleed the victim.

Why?
The entire cast so far is amazing. You have to understand that it's more of a fictional depiction rather than a documentary.

Ragnar Lothbrok is an amazing character. I had a couple issues with it, but at the end of episode three they speak in the native language with subtitles while talking to people of a different language. So, that redeemed the show for me.

Episode five tonight on line, I can't wait. All the episodes are avaliable on history.com. Episode four is supposed to air tonight, but the fifth one should be available tonight online only a week early.
