Can someone explain to me the "potion" combos?
Well I've heard a lot of stuff about them recently, and for some reason my phone isn't pulling up WOBP, so I'm asking you guys. I've heard stuff about mystic potions, phantoms, and mystics. I've just now learned about them but apparently from what I've heard their pretty bada**. Can someone please explain what makes a potion a potion, or a mystic potion, etc?

Edit:in my genetic calculator app I just mixed a phantom with a mojave, and came out with a "purple passion"..? Idk but this thing looks WICKED.

Mystic and phantom is like lesser and butter. Mystic potion is a mojo mystic. Purple passion is a mojo phantom. Essentially the same snake.

yeah i just picked a Mystic female up a few weeks ago, when she gets up to size she will be going with a hypo super mojave. Gives me a better chance of hitting the mystic potion, two mystics will make a super mystic. Dan wolfe is doing some really cool stuff with the mystic gene like the enchi mystic, pastel enchi mystic, and a few other things that i really liked a lot.

    Mojave and Mystic/phantom (same thing)

Mystic x mojave makes a "mystic potion".
Phantom x mojave makes a "purple passion" which is the same thing as a mystic potion. Mystics and phantoms are the same morph with different names.

Oh okay, like Mike said, mystic is to phantom what lesser is to butter.

Just wondering about these genes because soon I'm picking up two females, a mojave and a butter, both super young. Now I'm thinking in a couple of years investing in a mystic/phantom combo boyfriend for them.

one thing you probarbly already know....

the genes are sitting on the same locus. all these genes are on the same locus: Butter, Daddy Gene, Lesser Platinum, Mocha, Mojave, Mystic, Phantom, Russo Het Leucistic, Special.

you need to consider this when calculating odds. its most apparent when you breed a snake having two of these genes to another snake having two of these genes, you dont get normals or single-gene or triple gene offspring, only 2-gene combos.

so mystic potion to mystic potion gives 50% mystic potion, 25% super mojave, 25% super mystic. and mystic potion to a normal results in 50% mystic, 50% mojave.

and yes they are awesome looking. super mystic / phantom also looks nice, but mystic potions are lighter colored and the pattern is often further reduced. and enchi mystic potion looks just totally awesome.

Hopefully next year at the soonest I'll start pairing my Spider/Mojave male with my Mystic/Pastel in attempts to produce Mystic Potions as well as the worlds first BumbleBee Mystic Potion. I originally wanted to just breed Mystic Potions because they are just gorgeous, but I couldn't pass up these 2 gene snakes. Check out the odds.

yeah that guy from Scotland made the 1st enchi mystic potion i really wanna see how it looks as it gets older.

Oh I'm interested in these phantom combos now. Think I should save up for a phantom combo for my mojave and butter girls? :)

yeah, but like he was saying the mystic potions are lighter in color. The purple potion is a little darker plus you can see the side pattern on a purple potion. They aren't too different from one another....I just like the mystic stuff better. I would also look into the mystic potion sulfar, they are very light and so beautiful.

I just got my first mystic almost a year ago from Alan Cole so I'm really excited to have my first chance at combos this year. I'm breeding mystic X chocolate mojave and mystic X chocolate cinnamon mojave. Not sure what chocolate and/or cinnamon will do for a potion but will be fun to try and find out.

Those sound like fantastic pairings. Later this year I'll be looking for another 2 gene Mystic female to go with my Spider/Mojave.

Those are going to be some hot combos! Which mystic/phantom combos would you breed to a mojave and a butter?

I'm so knew to mystic I can't really give any advise. I'm just breeding what I have on hand (those are my only two Mojave girls). I'll be sure and post if something cool does hatch. I was surprised last year to hatch a chocolate pastel spider yb and how nice it turned out so maybe a pastel mystic would go well with a spider mojave? Are there pinstripe mystics? I wonder what a pinstripe potion would look like and if it would have a really broken up pattern like the super chocolate pinstripe (i.e. camo I think it is)? The lesser phantom (karma, right?) is a white snake so I would expect the same for butter mystic. Actually I'd love to produce a nice white snake like that as I don't have one yet even though everyone loves to say "not another white snake". For years and years a leucistic ball python was just a legend and suddenly they are passé.

Karmas are awesome, from what I've seen they are all white with a pink tint. Pretty awesome, AND they were not produced until last year, so if you produced one you'd be talking about a pretty rare snake.

Re: Can someone explain to me the "potion" combos?
The problem with being old is that while I've been around long enough to have followed the exciting early days in ball python morph breeding I'm also too old to remember it all or keep up with the huge number of morphs and combo names now. However, I think the karma was the first captive bred leucistic ball python and according to this link it was 10 years ago:

    http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/ma...esser_lucy.asp

For maybe 10 years before that there were rumors of leucistics in jars in Africa or exported to Asia but no one ever seemed to have a picture.

    Karma= Phantom x Lesser
Karma 2.0= Phantom x Butter (dont last year for the first time by Jeremy at JandD Reptiles)

Again, basically the same snake with some minor differences since the Butter and Lesser are so similar..

For the folks that say the can tell Purple Passions from Mystic Potions, I would be willing to bet if I stuck 5 Potions and 5 Passions in a box and asked you to pick which was which, you would not be able to do it.

Speaking of Potions, there is also a Black Potion which is Mojave X Mahogany.

Either way, they both look pretty sweet
I would love to have a phantom project in the future.

i also think purple passions and mystic potions are the same. some have only a backstripe, some also have reduced side-patterning, but that looks like natural variation to me because you can have mystic potions and purple passions with exactly the same pattern.

you get something that will look kinda similar to black potion also with black pastel mojave. but strangely enough cinnamon mojave looks much different.

I have a mystic that I want to pair with a buttet that is also enchi. Has anyone seen what this looks like? Does it affect the buttet and mystic mix which is almost a be but has that yellow stripe. I just want to kow if there will be a way to tell of I end up with all 3 genes in one.
