Ways to get the tank warm without warming room.

Well I have started prepping for a new BP and while the temps and humidity are fine(79-82 degrees and 65-69%),my room is blistering hot.I like my room in the 60s tughto very low 70s.Is there a way to keep my room cool while keeping the tank warm enough still?(already using a heat lamp as well)

60s are cool to me lol. I keep my room like low 70s year round. I thought i was weird for feeling hot when the room hits mid 70s. You must be like a yeti lol.

Can you tell us exactly what you are using?

If you are using tanks there is no reason to heat the entire room

Tubs on the other hand require a heated room. No way around it.

Well it's a 20 gallon long.Zoo med heat mat on hot side with a 92 degree hotspot.Heat Lamp over top of right side and foil covered screen top.Using cypress mulch with a little bit of aspen.And the tank usually is around the same temp of the room.Varying a few degrees here and there.

So are you heating to room? because a heat lamp and a UTH shouldn't add any measurable amount of heat to the room.

Yes.If I don't the temps drop to around the low 70s.

What wattage bulb are you using? There is 0 reason to heat a room for a glass tank, just get a higher wattage bulb.

I have just about every bulb under the sun. (Everything from 40-100). I sucks, I know, but that's what you gotta do. I even need two lamps in the winter because it's so cold up here.

My room rarely is over 68º and sometimes is below 60ºF the side turned tank has worked perfectly for me I just have a 18 inch fluorescent light inside the tank and that holds the ambient temps in a acceptable range. (76-85ºF) Every season I make an adjustment to the timer they run on. It solved all the balancing I needed to do with the tank. It is a close second behind my vision enclosure and equal to my slab build PVCx ones (like APs)

I have a 40gal tank in a room that is 66-68 on average. I use a uth and 100 watt che on the warm side, and a 60 watt bulb for the cool side. I have a mostly covered screen top with foil tape.

With the right size bulb you should be able to get the right temps. Just be sure the bulb does not create a hotspot that is way to warm. I use lamp stands to give me the ability to raise and lower the lamp to get the perfect heat coverage. They will also extend the life of the heaters because you are not bouncing them around moving them from the top every time you enter the tank.

Here is what I do for all my tanks My room temps hold at about 68f and my tank temps hold fine at about 79-81

First I cover three sides of the tanks with black construction paper or aquarium background

Then I cut pieces of cardboard to fit the 2 sides and the back of the tank

After that I cover one side of the cardboard with foil tape and tape it to the tank sides and back

This allows the foil tape and cardboard to reflect the heat back into the tank and looks nice as well

Do you have to constantly spray the tank to keep the humidity up then?
