I guess we'd just have to see about that, but as it stands, it's Calgary's butt we're gonna kick!! The Lightning WILL bring home the cup.....

    Ahhh...funny funny people.
IF Detroit made it. Notice the big IF. Detroit's time is DONE there finish, time to rebuild there.
As for Tampa, I hate Tampa but do like your coach and wouldn't mind seeing Andreychuk hoist the cup. He has paid his dues and desreves it. But the rest of those deweebs on the Lighting I don't know about :)
I think Calgary should not be overlooked. Should be a great, FAST, run and gun type series. I know "The Bulin Wall " is good by "Kipper" was the best goalie all year and in the playoffs.
So don't hoist that Cup yet Sophie42204.
God, the hockey world as we know it will come crashing down if Tampa of all people win the Cup :)

Detroit lost to our eventual Stanley Cup Champions, the Calgary Flames!! I love Jon Tortarella & I got much respect for Dave Andreychuk & a lot of the Lightning players. That being said, Calgary reminds me a lot of the Sabres' teams of the late 90's with their dependence on tough defense, great goaltending & timely scoring. And seriously, how can you not want the best for a guy like Jarome Iginla!!?? That guy is the best thing hockey has going for it right now!! So, even though I am not a huge fan of Canada, go Flames!

Considering Buffalo is my hometown (and always will be--been in Tampa 5yrs), Sabres are my first team of course and they were awesome in the late 90's. I'm still not over being screwed out of the cup by The Stars!! I mean, justify it by changing the rules--now we allow a skate in the crease??? Cop out!! Eww, that still makes me burn!! Obviously, I'm an Andreychuk fan seeing as he was a Sabre once, and a damn good one I might add. Since I don't have a crystal ball, I don't know what's going to happen, BUT I can think positive, right?? Should be a good series regardless...oh and I LOVE the Lightning, took a coupla' years to warm up to them seeing as I was a HUGE Sabres fan, but this is my home now, so I'm a turncoat as they say!! :D

Ahhh...Brett Hull and the famous foot in the crease goal. The Sabres did get the screws on that one.
I think Tampa will win and have thought that since like Feb/March. They have been the best team. I don't want them to win but such is life. Being a fan of a team from the SE (Caps)it would be nice to see the SE get some respect and a team from there win the Cup since the Caps blew it in '98.
Like's been said it is gonna be a great series and it starts tonight! YIPEE!!!!

    Tampa Bay 1

What adjustments will Tampa's coach do for game 2???
I know he will have something up his sleeve

Game 2 should be interesting now that both teams have checked each other out.
I love the Cup finals :)

I stopped watching after 2nd period (I still could hear it though, I don't have that much self-discipline!!)....I guess we'll see what Fonzie has in store for his boys (everyone thinks he looks like Henry Winkler!)....I love the finals as well, no matter who's playing (always nicer when it's your team though, this is only the second time it's happened for me)...I LOVE HOCKEY!! Most of my friends are into football, not many people into hockey down here, so it's nice to talk hockey w/another true fan, of course, I do have Mark, but stilll....I'll be holding my breath until Thursday! :D

Henry Winkler hehehehe...he does look like him
I to LOVE hockey and was wishing last night that was the Caps in finals just so I could finally go and feel all the vibes of a Stanley Cup final. I have been a season ticketholder of the Caps since right after there one and only final apperance (98) You being a Sabre fan I am sure you remember the OT goal against Hasek that propelled the Caps into the finals that year ?

Yes Tampa is a football town I hear but the Lighting should help win over some fans for the great game of hockey.
Yes I remember all to well the Lightings first apperance in the playoffs.
I was at game 6 last year when ole St Louie scored the OT winner on my Kolzig. But as a Caps fan you get use to first round and out :(
Glad to see another true hockey fan on the boards, this should be fun
Until Thursday we will both be holding our collective breaths :)

I'm ready! Mark blamed the loss on the 'high altitude'! HA! He's such a sore loser, went in the bedroom and sulked.....I was none too thrilled, but I went fishin' w/some friends till very late (or very early, depends on how you look at it) and had a few drinks, much better way to get over it.......

Regardless, it's been fun so far....Lookin' forward to tonight!

I am not all that into hockey. It never snows here. But we have a CHL team here in San Antonio called the rampage but i have yet to attend a game. But seeing the stanley cup it looks really cool. I wish i had a chance to play when i was younger.

Yes me to. I play street hockey with my son and his friends. I use to spend every weekend ice skating when I was growing up but back then in this area we had like no hockey teams for kids and besides I am old and back then they sure as heck weren't gonna let a girl play.
I could only play softball back then when I really wanted to play baseball :(
Anyway I am finally gonna get a chance to get my picture taking with the Stanley Cup in a few weeks.
We are going to N.C. for the NHL draft and it will be there Woo Hoo!!! as dumb as it may sound to some getting my picture taking standing next to the cup is on my 101 things to do in my life :)

Last year, my daughter's 4th grade class won tickets for the whole class and one-parent-each to attend a Rampage game. Even though we're not really into hockey, I was actually looking forward to it...any sport is more fun when attended in person. Unfortunately, I got sick and my hubby took her. They had a great time. I would recommend going...great way to see some professional sports without having to spend an arm-and-a-leg like with many of the "big" leagues.

    Tampa 2
    Calgary 1 Final Game 7

I hope hockey makes it back next year and there is no strike over the new CBA.

For my money, the cup in Florida just seems SO wrong. But, I like John Tortorella (Fonzie) a lot. I think that he is a class guy & he deserves this thing. He used to coach the Rochester Amerks (Buffalo's minor league team) not so many years ago.

And Dave Andreychuk, congratulations man! He deserves the cup too. Again, a high class guy who has ALWAYS put the team first.

I don't dislike Tampa as a team but ya just know that next year Calgary is gunna be just like the Ducks were this year. This was really the only shot they were gunna have. Congrats to both teams on a great season though. What a fun & entertaining finals!

Here is to hopin that the boys in charge get their crap together to give us a FULL season next year!!!

sorry I haven't been here lately, been busy and have had some PC issues:

all I gotta say is the LIGHTNING RULE!!! AWESOME FRICKIN' GAME MONDAY!!!
We played our hearts out and since I am originally from Buffalo, I'm perfectly content w/the cup being down here. It is a little aggravating when you could pratically get tickets for free 3 or 4 months ago and now everyone's a big hockey fan. We've been watching the Lightning for 5 yrs. since moving down (we also still follow the Sabres of course), but on the flip side, we need the support. I'm sure many will become true hockey fans now....we'll see I guess. I'm kinda sad it's over, it was such a great series!!

Heheheh, I figured you hadn't been on cuz you guys were dancing in the streets and partying!
Hell has offically frozen over! ( just kidding)
I heard the newspaper down there screwed up and ran the wrong story saying that they had lost, gee did they all have their heads in the sand.

I only had a problem with one thing about them winning the Cup.
They had Hulk Hogan on the ice and he hoisted the cup up on the ice. I feel that is something only for the team to do.
Hulk Hogan could play with the cup when the guys all get there " day " with the cup.
Yes it stinks I wanted it to go on longer, oh well lets hope we have hockey next year!

I missed the Hulk Hogan thing, that would've annoyed me too...My co-worker brought the paper in for me the next day, soooo stupid!! I would have loved to have been down at the Ice Palace w/all the crazies, but opted to stay in the comfort of my own home, IF I had tickets you better believe I would'a been down there!!

What is all this crap going on? I heard a blurb, but haven't gotten the full scoop yet....I stopped watching a lot of professional sports b/c of strikes and money issues...I really hope it doesn't happen in hockey, I'll be so disappointed! :(

The CBA runs out on Sept 15 and the owners want a hard salary cap of 35 mil per team and the players union doesn't they want it to be a soft cap where if your teams payroll goes over you pay a luxury tax above the 35 mil.
Owners say they are losing money which for most teams is very true. the NHL as a whole is slowly sinking. TV ratings waay down and people just don't follow it or catch on to it not even for the finals. A sad thing because hockey is an awesome sport. It's really two sports in one Ice skating and hockey
Talk about guys being fit you have to just to play.Anyway that is it in a nutshell. Sides way far apart, lot of players going to Europe to play next year and Bobby Hull is starting a new league WHA in Oct and there are rurmors Iginla and even St Louie May play if there is a lock-out
If there is a lock out and the NHL is out next season it may indeed go under it just can't take the hit of being gone a year.
It's a sad sad thing for us hockey fans.

I didn't realize it was so serious. It's really too bad, I guess we'll just have to wait and see....I'm worried! It's such a great sport, much better than football, wish more people would give it a chance and realize that!
  • 06-11-2004, 03:43 PM
    jotay
Ahhh....me to. All my rough and tuff guy friends love football and I tell them then they would love hockey and their response is they can't follow the puck.
I admit it takes a couple of games to learn how, when and where to look and what sounds to listen for but it ain't rocket science.
I am a hockey freak as you can tell by my sigs at bottom of the posts and this whole maybe no hockey next year has me bummed out:(
Have you seen the movie "Miracle"? awesome movie even if your not into hockey.

Not yet, but I'm buying it this weekend for Mark (well, and me too!). His b-day is Monday. He'll be in Buffalo for a few days, so we won't celebrate until he gets back--which means we probably won't watch the movie until next weekend.

IMHO, Hockey is a much more rough and tumble sport and takes more skill than football...I agree it's sometimes hard to follow the puck b/c it's such a fast paced game. I guess I take it for granted growing up watching it I have little problem following, but
sometimes I do lose track of the puck and even miss goals that happened right in front of my eyes!!

Crossing my fingers that the NHL will be around for some time to come....
