    Idiotic Baby Names
Celebrities like to give their children stupid names like Blanket, Apple, Jermajesty, and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen (you guess the celebrity parents). I have no idea why - attention seeking behavior, maybe? There are plenty of "normal" people, though, who seem to drop a few IQ points when it comes to naming their kids. I've met a Wilda Wolfe (parents thought it was cute), a Hyman Wiener (named after his grandparents and hated hated hated it), a Peter Picker (this kid seriously put up with a lot in junior high). What are some bad names you've come across?

Any boy or girl named after a state. And the thousands of girls with names like McKenna, McKinzie, McKayla. These are all Irish and Scottish LAST NAMES, not first names.

While the celeb do seem to come up with different names.....

Wilda Wolfe (parents thought it was cute) - I don't see the problem, is there a pop culture reference im missing? Sounds like a pretty girl's name to me. Unless it was a boy, then he had what sounds like a pretty girl's name to me lol. but thats not uncommon really.
a Hyman Wiener (named after his grandparents and hated hated hated it) - Traditionalists.... what more is there to say? Sorry for your luck kid.
a Peter Picker (this kid seriously put up with a lot in junior high). - His last name was picker, hes was going to put up with a lot in school no matter what they named him.

For anyone who can deal with mature language, lewis black has a skit on this subject, its awesome.

One that has always stuck in my mind, I heard someone named/tired to name their kid "la-a".... and the dash an't silent.

    *edit*

I never met her, but my dad says he had an aunt named Olive Oyle.

I think what drives me nuts more than names, is how people try to spell them differently. My name is "Nicole". Because of all the different spellings, no one can EVER spell my name right... It isn't that hard to figure out either! Some variations include Nichol, Nicholle, and less commonly Nikole and Nickole.

I agree with the spelling thing.

If you're going to name your kid Aaron, spell it Aaron. I know an Aeryn. Spell it Catherine, not Kathryn. Spell it Jason, not Jaisen.. Brittany, not Britnee. The list goes on and on. You're not being unique or cute, you're being a pain in the butt for the kid who's going to have to spell out their common name to every single person who asks it.

I sometimes work in the junior section of a snowboard shop, and I met a little girl named River the other day. I thought it was nice, but that's about as weird as I'd ever go (and I'm not even sure I'd even go that way if I ever wanted kids).

I can't believe people would get annoyed by other peoples names. That seems beyond rude. "Omg why can't you just be normal and spell your name like everybody else. Stop trying to be unique! Conform! CONFORM!" I guess humans will ALWAYS find something to judge others by. Even if we all looked IDENTICAL, its good to know that so many people would be able to judge people just based on their names lol.

EDIT: imo people should spell their kids names however they want. If you're naming your kid Harry Ball or Poopface McGee then yea, thats a little uncalled for. But if i met someone who spelled Michael differently i wouldn't try and tell them that they're wrong lol.

"Nik" is a name that's common for countries such as Norway, Sweden, etc.

That being said, I hate my name. It's an uncommon version of "Erin" No one can ever pronounce when they see it on paper, and when I tell my name to people, they always write it down wrong. This also means if someone wants to look me up on facebook, they're never going to be able to find me.

My boss spelled my name wrong for a long time on my cheques haha

Spelling doesn't really bother me since multiple languages have different ways of spelling a lot of names. I am Italian and my middle name is "Cristina", but in the US everybody thinks it is spelled wrong and spells it "Christina". They do the same thing to my first name all the time as well haha. They spell "Teresa" as "Theresa". I swear... everybody wants to put an "H" in my name lol.

Now... here are some names that just flat out made me laugh (not in front of them), confused me, or made me feel horrible for the child. All these names I have seen in person and have met while working at a kids store in the mall.

Deathrage --> Pronounced exactly how it look, and it was the name of an adorable 2 year old girl.
d'erecka and syd'erecka --> siblings 2 years apart in age. I was very confused on how to even go about pronouncing the names.
Toot Fudge --> I'm going to hell... I had to hold back my laughter :(.
    Virgin --> *facepalm*

On a side note, I totally fell in love at first site with a guy that walked into the store I worked at that was named Kal-El ... Apparently I was the first person to catch the superman reference right away haha.

Clearly I am just going to name my never going to come to pass future children Bruce and Wayne. That way when I call them for dinner I can scream "BRUCE WAYNE. FOOD IS DONE." Just kidding... maybe.

    Not even joking.

And Mike, I don't think most people are saying that the people are wrong, but the parents, for making their children live with these terrible names.

I've heard of a guy named Benjamin Dover on an AM radio talk show (it was a local, political talk show so it wasn't a funny stage name) He had a caller once that was like "Hey Ben" And he corrected him immediately, "It's Benjamin."
    Ben Dover..

I've heard of the La-a, couldn't believe it was true.
    Airwrecka, that's just...wow.

Other names that make me cringe, are imo "stage names" if you know what I mean...examples: Destiny, Mercedes, Cherry, Miracle, Porche, etc

Im naming my kids Walker and Texas Ranger.

My initials are MRS. I got teased about that before in school. One day i asked my mom why she sucked so bad at naming me and she was like "to be honest i didn't even think about it." Im sure there are other parents out there who don't think either. Also, immature teenage parents (which has become common) probably think its funny to name their kids stupid things.

The other day at work I met Sandra Claus.

No joke. Her name was Sandra, and she married a man last name of Claus. Her mother asked her if she was sure she wanted to walk down that road. When I first saw it pop up with her rewards card, I paused and glanced up at her. She sighed tiredly and said, "Go ahead, I've heard them all by now." I smiled at her and said, "Not at all, I thought it was a joke on me. I met Superman the other day." She laughed and then shared the story with me. She said even now after 8 years of marriage she gets people who think she's being a smart aleck because she signs things S. Claus.

So it's not always what parents do, sometimes people can do it to themselves.

I know a few people with names that are just funny combos
I went to school with a Penny Quarter (last name was spelled differantly dont remember how but thats how it was said) her nickname was 26 cents, and another girl named Anna Cin we called her tylenol.

Also knew a guy named "Richard" La Douche and he works for Siemens. I also used to work with a Ima back in the day who married a guy with a last name that turned her name into a huge joke but for the life of me i dont remember what it was.

My neice's middle name is Diamond to me its just sounds wrong

I have a "weird" name...sort of. It's Katia (Ka-Tee-Uh) but I get called all kinds of things. Catch-ya, Kade-Ee-Uh, Kay-Tee-A, I've even been called Tequila for some reason. I swear people don't even try with my name, lol.

I have no idea why my parents named me that. My dad was French-Canadian, but it's pronounced "Catch-ya" in Quebec.

I agree with the spelling things.

Alecksandreea - My friends were LEGIT debating weather they should name their daughter this. No, just....no. crap like this needs to be stopped haha. It seems people are just trying to find the most obscure spelling. And it's true, it causes A LOT of headaches when it comes to legal documents. I have had trouble with multiple things bcause my name on my credit card is Katia (because that's my name!) but people on the other end assume I am "Katie." UGH!

My wife is a public high school teacher.
She's had twins in her classes named la-a and la.a. That's Ladasha and Ladotta so I know for sure the whole La-a thing is legit. She's had some doozies she's come home with that she couldn't even pronounce. But my all time favorite was IUD. Yep - IUD the pronunciation was I Unique. How the hell you get that from IUD I'll never know but that was her name. It's amazing how stupid some people are when naming their kids.

i say if you want to spell a name strangely, go ahead. my daughter's name is Airianne(pronounced air-e-ann.) i spedded it that way so it was phonetically correct and people would not mispronounce it. she is constantly called everything BUT Airianne. the most common ones are Arianna(are-e-anna) and Airianna(air-e-anna). i dont know how anna comes in to play with a name that clearly does not end in "A" but whatever. spell names however you want, the bottom line is people are gonna muck it up no matter what. might as well be original.

my name is Josh. or Joshua actually. easy, right? change two letters and its not. i have a buddy named Joshem. pronounced Josh-um. no one ever gets that right. he gets a lot of Joe-sheeeeem.

ya well, my kids name is spelled exactly as it should be pronounced. does that happen? no. spelling does not always to mispronounciation or proper pronounciation. most of the time its peoples inability to read or lack of paying attention imo.

I completely understand the differences in spellings when the person's country of origin comes into play: ex: Aleksandra and someone said Cristina (and all of those Irish names I can never pronounce, haha). However, spelling things ridiculously just to be original makes me go crazy.

I'm planning to be a teacher, and lord knows what I'm going to run into in the future with all these crazy names popping up.

My observation is that when "normal" Americans see a oddly spelled name they automatically think it's foreign and start to try to pronounce it as it it were since many foreign names for some reason are not spelled phonetically. I fall victim to this a bit too since I would with foreign people on a daily basis. If I saw Joshem, I would think Joe-shum because it looks Hebrew.

Also, my wife's name is Chanin (pronounced Shannon). She gets Cha-nin and Cha-neen a lot.

That's me. I'm almost obsessive about getting people's names right, especially because I'm not the greatest with names. So when I am introduced to a person, that's the name I use. Always. And then sometimes I find out a few months later they actually prefer to go by their nickname...
