How do you DO IT? lol
:) Hello was just wondering what you all did when breeding your females, I mean are you a CONSERVATIVE and just run 1 male in particular across a designated female or are you a GAMBLER and run all your males across your females like a slot machine and just GET ER DONE!:D:D
-
How do you DO IT? lol
Its not really a gamble if you put more than one male with the same female lol
-

I had a "het albino" female lay about a week ago. I got her from a guy off craigslist that said she produced albino's for him twice. So I paired her up with the albino and the bumble bee. figured I'd win either way :P
-
Exactly that's the Gamble on multiple males it is fun and exiting because you might get a spider to a Lesser depending on what you put in the Pot.

i did run my three males across my females, ready for this three males, not gambling at all,any baby from this males will make me happy
then, when you run normal male across you females then you may gamble if you still have another multi genes male ready ;)

I wouldn't have done this lol. How will you know if the normals you produce are het. albino or not?

Re: How do you DO IT? lol
I went both ways. One of my girls with one male only. The other two got both males because I wasn't sure if one of the males was getting the job done....... Ya' do what ya gotta!

I would rather take my chances with the bumblebee then her not proving out and producing a bunch of poss hets

he said the male was albino so the baby's will be 100% het's if she is normal

Yea but if you paired her with both males you wont know what your normals are. The normals could be just normals (bee was the dad of them) or could be het. albinos (albino was the dad).

Yea but those babies could be the babies of the bee since he paired both to her.

Re: How do you DO IT? lol
It wont be until next year at the earliest, but I'll be breeding one male to one female. I have a Spider Mojave male that's gonna get down with a Mystic Pastel female. No reason to put any other males with her. Whatever comes from this pairing is gonna be awesome. Both parents are really nice specimens that might produce the world's first Bumblebee Mystic Potion. This pairing is GOLD. Check out the possibilities.

I understood what you said the first time, but I'm doing it for the experience not so much the profit to sell them or anything. Im not into inbreeding either, so it's not like I'm going to need the "het" babies. Ill just sell them as normals.

Lol ok. They're your snakes, you can do whatever you want. I was just saying...
Inbreeding isn't a big deal with balls or most herps. Im not saying id line breed 10 generations. But one generation won't negatively effect your bps.
-
I used multiple males one year on an entire rack of females. I put my lesser, my spider, my cinnamon, my sulfur through the entire rack repeatedly over and over. Just to make sure I got the job done I put my male pastel through them once. I hatched a LOT of pastels that year. Every single female in that rack that laid produced pastels and NONE of any of the other morphs. I don't use multiple males anymore.
-
Both, some females get one specific male, other females get a slew of males, depends on what I'm breeding for or if I think the first male isn't breeding her.
-
Re: How do you DO IT? lol
With doms, you can see what you've got. With recessives, using multiple males can turn a 100% het into a possible het. (I've always liked stating the obvious :P ).
-
Depends is I am shooting for something specific that is high on my priority list or if I have no preference when it comes to the outcomes.

x2
Next year I intend to run my lucy het hypo male to my females that are up to size but my dinker female will be bred exclusively to her het son. I have 2 other males but one of them I wont really need to breed for a couple years to wait for his daughters to grow up. I do have line breeding plans in mind so some of my breeding will be set on a specific path to prove genetics out.
-
Like its already been said, I will run multiply males in with a female if I am not trying to make hets. We made dbl het albino pieds last year and dbl het hypo pieds. The females never got CLOSE to other males, lol. But I didnt mind putting my pastel female with a superpastel and a blk bee this year!

Lol true. It just a mental thing. I don't like the idea of doing it. Just because "nothing will happen" doesn't mean you should do it. Like you said, they are your snakes. I'm not against anyone who does it, it's just a preference.
-
I bred only 1 on 1, but maybe someday I will try to pair few males to one female :)

Tell that to the balls in Africa. Lol
They don't differentiate between relatives and non-relatives. They breed to what's available in the area. And I think its safe to say that I don't think they are a species huge on emigration or immigration....

You can back use a back up male on your recessive projects if he is a Super of a gene not in the recessive male or the female. For example a Ivory as a backup for a Pied. All of they YBs you get are fathered by the Ivory and anything else is fathered by the recessive. Keeps your hets 100%.

They rotate their breeding stock every few generations. :D

Thats exactly what I had to do this season. My enchi male seemed to have no interest in my spider female. Or may he's a regular two pump chump and I missed the lock...guess we'll find out. But thats the fun part!

No accounting for love, is there. You can put them together but you can't make them.... well, you know.

Re: How do you DO IT? lol
It all depends on the females and what projects I have. Some females go to more than 1 male others only 1 specific male. So I guess I do both.. :D
