Clown x Pied surprise!

I bred my Clown to a Pied and this is one of two Pieds hatching. To my knowledge the Clown was not het Pied.

Is the female pied. Could it be possible that she retained Soren from a het pied or pied from last year. That's if she was bred last year. If not then now you know you have a clown het pied and I bet it is worth a lot more than what you paid for it.

She was to immature last season to breed and I have no record of her being with my Mojave Pied and she's only been paired several times starting in Sept and laid 2 viable eggs on Jan 11th.

You can tell from the pic that the female is the pied. The clown was probably like a poss het that the breeder just sold as a regular clown. I call that good luck! Congrats!

I talked with John Woolard who produced my Clowns and he didn't have any Clown Pied projects but it's very possible that generations before someone possibly could have and it's being looked into.

I'm not going to say my Clown is het Pied until I prove it out by future breeding.

Thanks the only other sibling is another Pied which I'm hoping leaves the eggs soon.

Well jeesh 2 unexpected pieds out of 2 eggs, go play the lotto.

This is just a theory but with both being females could be a chance of it being parthenogenesis. Hard to tell from the pics but both hatchlings look almost identical to mom so it might be possible. Than again with a male being introduce I would think he would have gotten the job done.

I don't think that's parthenogenesis. Mom looks like a regular low-white. Those babies look like they have some clown influence going on.

Those babies are really neat looking! Just more reasons and examples to fuel my infatuation with pies.

Very interesting animals. So a Clown Pied would still keep the Pied head pattern? Are there Clown Pieds out there with a Clown head pattern? Just curious.

You said you werent going to state your clown was infact het pied untill you know for certain? But if the wasnt bred before... then surely the clown HAS to be het pied if you got 2 pieds out? Lol... am i missing somthing or isnt that pretty much common sense??
