    Female Breeding Cycle Questions
I have a female cinnamon that has been paired numerous times with a male pastel. I never saw a lock but I do believe that it happened as I saw them close to being locked a time or two and the tub would always get scented shortly after pairing them up. The cinnamon shed mid-January and is already blue again. She has no injuries that would make her need to shed again so soon, so I wanted to ask the experienced breeders out there the following - could she have ovulated and I missed it and she is now going into her pre-lay shed? I know it could be a number of things but what I'm looking for is if that fits a usual cycle of shedding before laying. Thanks in advance!

One of my girls just ovulated for me which is also the first ever for me so this might not help but she shed 3 times in 2.5 months before ovulation.. I have another girl that started breeding the same time and has shed 3 times as well, I believe she is about to ovulate too..
    When did you start pairing?

Started paiting on or about 1 December. How about yourself?

Have you palpated for follicles? How does she look? any signs of building?

I have a female who has shed the first week of January, the first week of February, and is currently in blue now!

To my knowledge she has no ovulated but I expect this shed to be her pre-ov shed. She was paired since October 1st.

Here is a quote from snakesRkewl (Jerry) that I really liked how he summed it up.
    Quote:

breed, shed, breed and grow follicles, shed, go into glow continue to grow follicles, ovulate 3 weeks or so before next shed which is the prelay shed, then 27 to 35 days on average until eggs
Granted...I don't know how many sheds my girl had before January (I purchased her around December) but I've determined this is probably her pre-ov shed and she had an extra shed thrown in...unless of course I missed ovulation by chance.

I could be wrong, but I think they go off-feed when they ovulate, or close to that time... Is she off-feed? My girls has been off feed and glowing for about a month and a half, and is in the blue now. I think she has already ovulated, and this is her pre-lay shed.

I tried to palpate but wasn't able to tell wether or not there were any follicles, although there may have been. She has shed now and did refuse her last meal. I'm going to offer again this week and see if she takes it and I am continuing to pair with my male through the end of the month (unless she ovulates in the mean time), at which point I'm going to stop pairing and will try to get my male back on a feeding schedule of sorts!

What all has she been doing? Laying on the cool side/warm side? Eating? Any bowl wrapping? Did you notice her glowing? I still have a lot of girls that haven't ovulated and some of them started pairing in October. It doesn't really matter when you start pairing them, it all depends on when they ovulate, people just start pairing early just in case the girl ovulates early.

I started pairing October 1st, pairing 3 days a week and offering food. male and female both went off food around beginning-middle of January. felt follicles for the first time on March 3rd. i can feel they have grown since then. First year breeding for me and until i see an ovulation i will continue the 3 day pairings. At this time i believe the follicles are around a marble size (15mm) and I have read they ovulate near ping pong size (45mm). Idk if this will help but this is how my season has been going for reference. Both animals virgins. male 1.5yr, Female 4yr old.

I keep trying to palpate but have felt nothing. She has hung out on the cool side a few times for a few days at a time but she hasn't recently. I paired the male again for three days on Wednesday of last week and this time didn't get any if the scenting. Maybe she ovulated and I missed it while I was in AZ for 3 days? Do they continue to show interest after ovulation typically?

Remember not all females go off feed when breeding, ovulating or whatever. I have a couple who could care less and always eat! I would keep paring and see what happens personally. Mine typically show NO interest in each other after ovulation. Hope this helps!
And I also have the darnest time feeling for folicles!

Just palpated her and definitely felt some follicles! It may have just been 4 however it is good enough for me! I guess I need to get my butt in gear getting my incubator ready, huh? Finger crossed!

If you felt follicles then she's either going to glow after this coming shed, or she's glowing now and will ovy before next shed.

Definitely no glow yet, and she just ate a large male rat, so I'm going to keep my eye on her for her ovy. So freaking excited!
