    Nice!
Hope you don't mind me asking, do you ever find them to be picky eaters when they are young?

Mine is. I think I'm going to try live this week.

Mine was EXTREMELY picky when I first got her as a baby, she didn't eat for probably two weeks when I first brought her home, even with perfect husbandry. But now, watch your fingers when you're putting a mouse in her cage! Haha

She ate her first week, skipped her next meal, went into shed and skipped her last two.
When we are feeding she gets excited and comes out but then turns her nose up.
I'm hoping live will turn her back on.

    Thanks!

Of the 24 babies I had this year only two were picky. The rest took to live hoppers without issue. The other two will eat rat pinks/fuzzies. One has since started eating anything, but the other still only prefers rats.

    Yayyyyyy Dumeril's!

Also, 2 weeks is literally nothing. That's GOOD that she ate two weeks after you brought her home, sometimes it takes them awhile to settle in!

Agreed! My baby didn't eat at all for the first month we had her. I just persisted with f/t and she is finally eating regularly. She's eaten each week for the last 4 without issue. She does not strike though - I just place it in her tub in front of her and after a brief investigation, she just picks it up and swallows. Silly snake.... ;)

I really love these snakes, they look amazing and everyone tells me how great they are. But I seem to be having a difficult time finding any available for purchase. Any recommendations?

my 2010 dum bit a kid at the Columbus expo. it really sucked but the parents were great about it. she is normally a sweetie and i'm pretty sure she was just stressed from the long day. I hadn't ever taken her in public before and wanted to see how she would do before I took her to any presentations that I do. She failed. but shes still a sweetie. it looked purely defensive and was at the end of the day. also the kid reached out straight at her face while his mom was checking her out. idk still doesn't change my opinion of dumerils being really sweet natured. everyone has a bad day.

Their patterns are beautiful and I love their large heads. Our local reptile store has 3 and the female is as thick as a 2 liter plastic soda bottle.

Do any of you Dumeril's fans ever consider the sister Madagascar ground boa? From what I've read the Dums is actually more prone to climb which is always cool. The Madagascan GB is typically larger and has more pinks in it's pattern.

I was oh so close to picking a Dums.

Their natural habitat is being destroyed so it's great that a lot of people are die hards for them.

    I did - then I saw their price.... :P

The amount of pink is relative to the snake, although it's true that generally the Madagascar ground boas do have more pink. But my baby Dum has TONS of pink, lol. She is prettier than most MGBs. But I digress....

I am also glad Dums have a solid following. I plan to pick up a male for my girl in the near future. :gj:

    Re: Dumeril's boas
That price is a big deal isn't it? I would actually pick a Dums over a MGB based on the fact they are said to be more "arboreal". The fact that there are dedicated owners that will breed them will probably eventually produce something so beautiful they will be impossible not to want.

Like I said before I was so close to picking one for our second snake. I'd like to see some pictures of them in their natural habitat or in a nice cage setting.

I have had my girl for about 4 months and never had a problem feeding her. She eats every time, in fact any time I go in the snake room she comes out of her hide and begs for food. It's pretty funny actually! She has the best personality! I need to get a pic of her doing that and post it.

    YAY! a dumerils thread...

guys i have a young dum now, who "supposedly" was eating 1 stunned mouse every 1-2 weeks with some local guy that bought her a few months ago for his son... :confuzd:
when he brought her to my home on saturday because i was buying her with her current set-up (pics in my thread)...i saw EVERYTHING that was wrong with the set up (also described in detail in my thread) & have since corrected it & her temps & humidity are stable now for the next 7-10 days im gonna let her be to calm down. now im hearing about how dumerils can be hard to start with eating & everything i saw with the set up has me doubting whether or not she ever even ate anything with her previous owner.
with what was going on & how stressed she is, there's no way she was eating...i just dont believe it. i'm tempted to weigh her today so i can start tracking it through this since i have no idea if she was eating or how well. she's supposed to be around a year old & i need ya'll with experience in owning dums to look at the pics i have in my thread & let me know if that looks like a very small 1 yr old or maybe could be younger then that. i dont know what size hatchlings are so its hard to guess.

Yeah get a current weight so you can start to track her from now on.

As long as she is not looking skinny, I wouldn't worry to much.
A link to your thread might help.

Mine is coming around now and has been eating once every 7 days now :)

she's close to 3 ft long as her set up is 30" long & she is slightly longer then it.

    Ah ok.
Evenstar has you on the right path and I don't know what else I could add. I have only had my little girl for a couple of months now.
I would just get everything running smooth and let her settle in.
Just keep an eye on her weight and I wouldn't worry much if she refuses a few meals.

Mine was really picky at first but a I said, she seems to be coming around now :)

    Good luck with her.

My baby female Dumerils is about 190gm give or take a bit. She was about 150gm when I got her in February and she was about 6 months old at that time. It took me a month to get her to feed. But she is eating a small adult mouse every week consistently now.

Just be patient with her, give her some space, privacy, and time, and I am sure she'll do fine for you. She does not appear skinny at all - she looks to be a good weight in the pics you posted. Have you even tried to feed her yet at all? She might surprise you and snap it right up. But if she doesn't, don't worry, she will eventually. And it won't hurt her to skip a few meals. She'll be fine. :gj:

    Re: Dumeril's boas
    oh ok. well thats reassuring.
i have tried feeding her & she just strikes but doesnt grab so they're just defensive strikes.
i've got a rat due to deliver any day now so i'll offer the boa one of the babies when its a fuzzie, about a week & a half-ish after they're born.

My dums ate after I gave her 5 days to settle in on the first attempt with a pinkie rat. She has also ate every time I offer her a rat, so she's not like talks at all lol. I am getting her an AP T8 in the future, cannot wait to do that!!
