There are lots of people in this forum with many different jobs.

    As for me.

I work for an engineering company. I am a survey technitian I research and draw land title surveys for tracts of land that are being bought and sold. Since i work in the survey department i process fieldwork brought in by the field crews. If anyone has questions about property laws just let me know.

I also own my own business. Its called Choice Audio. It was started by myself and a partner. We install and sell stereos, alarms, amplifiers, subwoofers. So if anyone has a question that relates to this feel free to ask.

Wow that sounds like a great setup I only used to have 2 10's in my trunk with upgraded speakers in the factory locations in the car.

I'll tell you what I do believe I have experienced some hearing loss from back in the day. LOL makes me remember sitting at a stop light blasting and bumping some 2 live crew or NWA.

I am familiar w/your line of work as I work in the Engineering and Operations group for T-Mobile. We build the cell sites and maintain them. When we are building what we call a 'rawland' site, we employ the services of a firm such as yours to go out and survey the parcel we are leasing to build the tower. We also have them create our construction drawings and tower drawings.
On the other hand, my fiance and I are pet groomers who used to have a salon and 2 partners, but that fell apart as we learned the hard way 'not to do business w/family or friends'...we still groom on weekends though, at least until we can build the capital to open another salon. So, I'm back w/T-Mobile for the time being.

Thats cool Sophie I used to work for a company called HDR and we designed and layed out all of the antenna designs for XM Satelite Radio. That was back when i did alot of structural drafting. Now I am in survey and i think its much more interesting. We surveyed a property not to long ago built his pool half into the property behind him. Surveying has lots of history.

I am a college student who is in the process of starting a company that deals with webstreaming live concerts. This summer I am hoping to get a gig working full time for the summer for the local herp/pet shop (don't worry they're one of the good guys) snake keeping is not a big hobby around here so when I walked in and said, "I would love a job here for the summer and I want to work with your snakes" they guy was kind of taken back haha guess not to many people request the reptile room haha. Aside from that I play in a cover band with some buddies for spending cash and hook up surround sound systems.

In addition to everything Judy listed, I am also a legal assistant, which means I practice law without a license. I do all the work, get none of the credit, but all of the blame, and get paid a tenth (if that) of what the attorney I work for makes.

Hehehe... Mike, I love the guys/gals that bag my groceries, means I don't have to do it :) Remember what Red Forman always says " work is work, if it was fun they would call it fun" ( one of my fav quotes)

Along with all the hats Judy wears except sex slave ( I am single):)
I am a construction superintendent for a custom home builder or as I love to call it "Adult daycare" because most of my subs are worse than my 14yo son
So if ya ever have any home construction or building questions please feel free to ask! It has pretty much been my lifes work.

    Tried f/t last night.
I'm a professional geek. For my particular employer, this means that I:
*babysit the moron in accounting when he takes too long a lunch and has to be retrained in his job
*teach people how to make overseas calls, use fax machines, copy their kids' soccer rosters, create spreadsheets, etc.
*design and create databases, then document them and train the users, then retrain the users
*create and modify database queries and reports at the whim of management
*monitor the server shared storage to make sure no one is saving porn there anymore
*figure out who is saving porn to the server shares and document it
*report downtime for the phone or internet connections to the vendor and pursue it until it's fixed
*maintain the company firewall, mail server, web server
*teach the company president how to FTP (about monthly), so that he can continue replacing the professional web site I created with the amateur one he created because he didn't have enough work to keep busy
*advise the company president on diverse issues from business card and brochure design to personal financial matters
*deal with various hardware and software vendors
*recommend and/or purchase software for company use
*maintain and enforce list of prohibited software (mostly p2p, adware, spyware)
    *troubleshoot network problems
*buy and install network hardware as needed
*determine disaster recovery policy and ensure compliance
    *maintain licensing and asset data
*supervise minion for workstation setup and maintenance and fix problems caused by his errors
    *etc., as needed

Then, of course, there's my other duties at home of chauffeur, chef, counselor, referee and arbitrator, zookeeper, supervisory sanitation engineer, plumber, activities director, teacher, tutor, editor, supplies manager, facilites manager, comptroller, file clerk, landscaper, banker and financial counselor, nurse, detective, and chief hugger. Unfortunately, no sex slave duties apply at the current time.

I was a bagger at Safeway once, beats having to run the register on the express lane hehe. I've done a bunch of stuff from hang drywall, graphic arts, pr0n star, life guard, lots of mung retail work (hell you name it there), teach in Jr High/High School, professional student (milk it for the grants and scholarships while you can), state employment agency and finally this maddening position in a Network Operations center (gov't contractor to aerospace) doing a lot of stuff similar to those Marla listed. I sit here in a very dim windowless room surrounded by the white noise of all these servers and the subfloor air-exchange system. This has helped train me to become highly desensitized to the sound cues in sleep/waking. The white noise in here doesnt make me perpetually nappy anymore (barring a big lunch) but I swear I can sleep through a massively loud double-alarm going off 2ft from my head.

LOL, I know just what you mean! There was talk of putting the servers in my office when we moved here and I said I wanted them put in a sound-proofed section of the room if they did that. At the old building the servers, cabling, switches, etc. were in closed-off rooms (2) with raised flooring, no windows, etc., and not only would I get sleepy but nauseus as well, as would others who spent much time in the rooms. Now I have a tight little wiring closet and a big well-ventilated server "area" instead and I can be with the servers for hours without a problem.

But, ummm, pr0n star? I think we need a story. :D

Marla you would have loved the fiasco we had here at work on monday. We have 2 Windows 2000 servers one for web applications and one as a file server. Well every weekend we make tape backups of everything on the file server which is close to almost 120GB. Well i guess on sunday one of the external tape drives caused an error on our server and screwed up the whole network it wiped out all of the network protocols and crashed 2 of the RAID drives. The IT people that management hires always end up getting fired. So we have contract IT people who know nothing about AutoCad and other engineering software. But we were unable to do anything untill tuesday after lunch.

WOW. That is a mess. I've never heard of a backup drive taking out the network protocols, but computers always keep throwing up new errors to keep things interesting. I had a report suddenly fail yesterday morning that had been running fine for months, and after troubleshooting it all day, I got it working by adding an extra data field to it -- still don't know why that fixed it, but it did. Another report truncates the title IF it's printed from one particular workstation, regardless of which printer is used, but doesn't truncate from anywhere else and no other report titles are truncated from that workstation, even longer titles -- how does that make sense? Gotta love the opportunities for error in a complex system. :)

The problem here is some of our work stations are still running on NT mainly the office personel, some run on Windows 2000 these are the engineers and most of the Cad Techs. Then we have a few new workstations that run Windows XP. So we got service packs galore around here. I use a program called Land Developement Desktop and this program just gobbles up memory. We use this program to make drawings. And each drawing is at least 4MB which dont sound that big but when you put like 1200 on a server it really bogs it down. AutoCad has some funny bugs in it too. Like when you use a logitech mouse you can use the wheel to pan and zoom. But when you use the newest drivers you loose that ability. And just for fun AutoCad throws in a fatal error and you lose your work if your autosave wasnt working. Sometimes you get a fatal error on the exact same command in the exact same drawing every time.

Damien, yeah, we run a mixed environment here, too, mostly Win 2K but also Linux, a few NT and XP, and a couple of 95 boxes for essential apps that won't run under anything else. We also have to support CAD for engineering schematics, though we don't need as heavy a hitter as AutoCAD for that fortunately. We do have to store the schematics, though, and have a database front end to them as well.

Well, I don't have an occupation at the moment, but school is my life right now. I am practicing to become a Veterinary Technician at McLennan Community College. They have an excellent program here, it is so awesome. From taking blood, to dissecting kitties, helping the vet in surgery, learning how to work the blasted anesthesia machine(we had a friend's bp get lost in that thing once), and also doing fecal test after fecal test after fecal test, and you get so bored you actually hope to find stuff to identify(Hey that looks like Mickey Mouse! No Becky, that's just pine pollen...Well, poo... Literally :) ) Anyway, it's very fun, and hopefully I'll be getting my rabies shots sometime soon in case some disgruntled dog comes in and decides to take my arm with him. And then there are those evil kitties who always want to eat your lunch (what I mean by this is they like to attach themselves to the ceiling or your head) Well, it is nice to know what everyone else does for a living, and I'm finally starting to put faces with names. Nice talkin with ya'll. Bye for now.
