Oh venison, how ive missed you!
I moved to DE about a year ago from NJ. When i lived in NJ, a hunter friend used to bring me deer all the time. I put it in my deep freezer n had venison all year round. Since i moved,i havent had any :(. My husbands mother gave us some on Thursday, and he cooked up venison burgers on the grill and just brought me some to my job. Man, they are flippin slammin!!!

I was thinking about getting my hunting licence this summer.
I have always wanted to try deer before.

Love some venison burgers. I have to get a bow tune bad.

If the deer are properly harvested, then are properly dressed, the flavor is unbeatable. Unfortunately, most people are pretty haphazard when they dress a deer, which is why a lot of people get turned off venison. If a deer isn't properly harvested and dressed, the meat is rank at best, and inedible at worst.
My hubby and his closest friend hunt all through the fall and winter: archery, black powder, rifle and a few managed hunts. We nearly always have a deer or two in the freezer. We turn about half of the meat into ground, mixing it 2 - 1 with lean ground beef for chili, stews, burgers, salisbury steaks, and the like. The backstraps we cut into small steaks for grilling. And the rest is chunked into stew meat. I make a lot of stews and such in the slow cooker during the winter. And venison stroganoff, which is a family favorite.
Last year I got to go on a black powder hunt, my kids are old enough now to be left at home overnight. I hope to go again this year. And my husband is talking about us trying the spring turkey season together.

It depends on how long I go between shooting :) When I go often, I can do 45 but I have to work up to it. After I haven't gone for awhile, I'm lucky if I can do 30. It's a Martin Leopard. I think they're specifically designed for women and weaklings, I happen to be both.
But since we're supposed to be talking about venison...I love it too!

Now this is a great thread! I love venison, but nothing beats moose. I went to Alaska and harvested a bull moose. It was an amazing experience and would love to do it again.... I got almost 600 lbs of meat to bring back and shared with all my family and close friends.

My boyfriend has a Hoyt, he loves it too. Way too much bow for me! I just started about four years ago. I've only gone hunting once and it was for turkeys, not big game. It's basically just a hobby. I'd like to go deer hunting though, just haven't had the time when it's time!

Venison is freaking amazing! I'd love to get into archery and bow hunting, it's just a bit expensive for me right now.

I think it can go as high as 60, I'm not certain though. It's really easy to adjust, we do it right there at the range when I'm too tired or feeling B.A. Once you get over the hump and it lets off, a six year old could stand there and hold it all day. It's a really manageable size too. It looks like a toy, but I assure you it's not.
I've never had rabbit that I know of, but I've always wanted to try it.

Re: Oh venison, how ive missed you!
YUMMY! I love venison. When we hunt, we hunt for the meat and use every possible part of the deer. love the taste and what you can do with it, although it is a skill to cook venison without drying it out due to the lack of fat. You are making me crave some venison for Sunday dinner :D

Re: Oh venison, how ive missed you!
My family loves venison and I have three daughters. I agree it is all about the processing. My dad and I are still hunting together and he is 75. My favorite thing when we are butchering, is to cut the tenderloins into medallions and cook with real butter and a little bit of garlic and onion salt. That and a cold beer make for a nice break in the middle of the work.

We get venison occasionally from the cousins out east. Love the flavor, and my Gramps will take stew meat and marinate/brine it for a couple of days and cook it over the grill shish kabob style. De-freaking-licious. I've never been deer hunting, just duck hunting out at the stock pond, but it seems like it would be a great experience.
Fishing is more of my forte. Don't know how we would function without a freezer full of halibut and salmon all year 'round

since I cooked the deer on the grill for my wife. it too cold to cook on the grill lol I singed my pull over shirt cooking it for her. but I loved to hunt I never got anything with my bow when I had it. but I got al my deer with the muzzleloader lol I had to give it all up cause it a pain trying to find someone to come out and help me field dress and load the deer ( I vomit during the field dressing thanks to my cousin) plus I lack the lower body strength to pick up a deer to put into truck.(dang cerebral palsy) but I was one that go out at 6 am and not come back until dark. I loved it specially when everyone else leaves and within hour I watch deer for an hour (s) before the people start to come back out lol.
