Which three morphs would you choose when starting out?

A similar question has been asked before but two years ago, and my question is more specific.

If you were going to choose three morphs in 2013, two female Snakes and in a years time one male (all purchased as hatchlings) with the intention of breeding them when they mature, which genetic combinations would you pick?

Are double co-dominant morphs the way to go? I am willing to invest in quality animals of a value up to $1000 each.

When my boyfriend and I were looking to start our breeding, we picked up two normal females and one male mojave. Personally, I kinda wish we had had one of the females be a morph of some type. We are looking at getting a spider ball or two so we can eventually get into the bee morphs. I want to get a mystic so I can breed a mystic potion. I guess it all depends on what your breeding goals are.

We wanted to start small with something simple and build up from there. We researched different morphs and the genetics for a month or two before we went to the show. We had a budget and a certain number of snakes we wanted to get. We actually stayed within that budget and bought 4 snakes (our male blood python was among that purchase).

The dominants and co-dominants are the easiest to work with as far as genetics, so I would start there. If I was doing it over again, I would get one normal female, one spider female, and one male mojave (because I think our Mojo is amazing looking.)

I would choose both the codoms you want to work with, and at least one recessive project. For example, lesser het hypo and bumblebee het hypo (or both full hypo) females and a hypo enchi male. That way, your variety of what you can produce increases, and you don't have to play catch-up with your females if you decide you want to get deeper into the recessive project.

Alright, I would buy:

1 male with 3-5 genes maybe a het or full.

2 females with 2-3 genes
Also trying for one of the genes to be hets!
Buy the females first, if you can save any money on them, push the savings to the male!

This is basically what we did and are doing except we bumped up the numbers because we had more cash to spend.

6 - 2012 Females - All are 2-3 Gene animals except one - All are valued over $1200 except two.

We will then be buying 2 - 2013 Males - Valued as high as we can afford to spend but nothing less then $2000 each.

For $1000 each I'd get (based on Canadian prices):
Male- Pastave yellowbelly
Females- Pastel phantom, pewter blast

I love bumblebees and they go for a decent price so I would say Pastel and a Spider for sure. Lesser, enchi, pied, and pinstripe. Those six snakes would probably make some cool combos.

A 3+ gene male....enchi lesser spider or something of the sort.

3+ gene female....with at least enchi in it for obvious reasons.

Clown female.
Breed Enchi Lesser Spider x Clown....hold back a male to breed back to mom the next year. Sick Clown combos.

If I had to start in today's market. I'd buy a 0.1 Pastel Enchi 0.1 Orange Dream 1.0 Coral Glow or something expensive.

I like these threads :D. For base morphs, I'd definitely have to have enchi female to produce some super enchi combos in the future, and a spider female. That should be about $600.. Then for a male, it would need to have at LEAST lesser/butter in it :P. A kingpin would be good to make kingspins and enchi kingpins. I think that would just about do it :gj:.

With that budget in mind

0.1 Pastel Enchi or 0.1 Superblast

0.1 Leopard

1.0 Super Pastel Lesser

You can get a 2012 Female for $1100 right now so $1000 for a 2013 is very realistic.

0.1 leopard
0.1 clown
1.0 Lesser+ as many other gene as I could find in my budget
