Years before the internet I found and ad in the paper for a free California Kingsnake from a guy downsizing his collection. I lived way out in the country but had a teacher that had alot of animals that helped me get started. He also bred mice and rats that he would sell to me for .25 to .50 cents. I'm the only one in my family with this addiction, they think I'm nuts.

I'm pretty sure I'm about to branch out from snakes and get me a Pacman.

My first reptile that I actually kept as a pet (not just found and released in the wild) was a box turtle when I was 5. Had him for about 10 years before allowing my nephew to have him when I went to high school.

My first snake was a garter snake that I kept for several years. I was, I think, 8 when I started working with snakes. :gj:

My first reptiles were some native lizards I used to catch in Puerto Rico when I was about 5-6 years old, but my first pet reptiles were some red eared sliders that I traded for some garters.

The first reptile/amphibian I owned were a couple of salamanders I found when I was about 5. They were black with little white snowflake looking spots all over them and I named them Snow and Flake. We found them under a rock at my grandmother's house and she was going to kill them because for some unknown reason, she thinks all reptiles and amphibians are dangerous. I still remember my dad helping me take a very large mason jar, creating layers of soil and moss to keep the humidity up, and using a small fish tank heater to try and keep them warm. They lived a couple of years and I remember them eating more worms than I could catch so my allowance went to the bait store to keep them fed.

My first snake that I caught was a ringneck but the first one that I owned and kept wasn't until college (mom wouldn't let us keep them more than a few days in the house). That was a snow corn snake that I bought at a pet store and her name was Snowflake.

My first reptile was a red-eared slider when I was 7. I loved feeding it :)

My first snake was a corn snake I rescued from a sticky mouse trap when I worked at a pet store when I was 19. They said if I could get it off, I could keep it, because they were just going to chop its head off.

Mine was a crimson het amel corn snake I later sold. I was 26 at the time but had played with and caught reptiles since I was old enough to walk and be alone outside. He was the first pet snake/reptile of any kind I had. He was also an evil little snot, lol!

My family got a leopard gecko a long time ago, when I think I was three... ? Anyway, I was too afraid of him to have anything to do with him since I didn't know squat about reptiles and nobody cared to teach me. It wasn't until a few years after that poor gecko passed away did I discover... drum-roll... the addiction! ;)
It took me 5 months of constant nagging until I picked up a harlequin wide striped (labeled Normal) ball pythons. Yesterday, I just got my second snake- an Orange Dream Ball Python being sold as a normal at PETCO. In fact, they were on sale for $40! :O
Anyway, now my mom said no more snakes. Being a smart@$$, I said I'll start getting lizards and geckos then. Funny thing is, she didn't argue about that! :)

My first 28.... Lol I was in college and a friend had some boas. He got a job and had to leave state. He sold all but one and had to leave the next day. He asked me if I would keep it until I could find it a good home. It was an 8 foot salmon red tail female. 2 weeks later I found out she was also het for albino. She had 27 babies. 9 albinos, 6 sunglows, and the rest were normal het albinos and hypo het albinos. I only found out what they were when I sent him the pictures. I had no clue. Lol still the best free snake I've ever gotten.

Back in the sixties when I was a little boy I was given those little red eared sliders from KMart. From there it was everything I could catch from box turtles to garter snakes and hog nose.

my first reptile was a bunch of hatchling slider turtles, I was out fishing and interrupted the raccoon from making a large dinner out of the eggs. ( I snuck them home and set up a tank) I had no clue on what I was doing lol.. a couple days later I found a second clutch of eggs,. and added them to the tank. ( these guys were found as they were starting to dig for installing the new boat ramp at the pond.) out of like 50 eggs I think I had 28 hatch.( which was better odds than they have if I didn't take them.)
First pet reptiles was a all in a 5-6 month period. I went from the turtles to a iguana, and then to snakes. I had released most the turtles to a local pond and It snowballed from there. lol. I had by the end of that summer 5 snakes and a iguana( and one pissed off Mom lol ) she was scared of the turtles and even more so of the snakes. But I won and got to keep them lol. Like she said later on " I rather him play with lizards and snakes than out there messing in drugs and who know s what else"

A quarter-sized red eared slider from a Chinatown NY souvenir shop when I was 12.

I was on a class field trip. My mother really appreciated that, she's the biggest animal-hater ever. I still kept him healthy and happy entirely on my own for eight years before giving him away when I moved. I gave that animal all my lunch money.
