    African plated lizard.

I was going to get the red bellied armadillo lizard, but turns out he was $50 and not the $30 we thought he was. So, I got this guy.

Eco earth with cyprus mulch on top, uvb light plus a heat lamp. He's currently hanging out under the heat lamp, which isn't a surprise since as far as I could tell, the store didn't have heat for him. I might need to get a stronger bulb for his basking spot since I only have a 60 watt.

Anyways. Tossed in some mealworms on a plastic lid for him, but I doubt he'll eat.

Neat, never really heard of these guys. He looks like a little dinosaur!

I narrowed down the subspecies to 'yellow throated plated lizard'. Tossed in a log under the light and changed the bulb to a 60 watt day. He's pretty active and is losing a lot of dead scales. Because of this, I'm misting him down to encourage everything to fall off.

Yep. He has some sweet potato baby food with some calcium powder mixed in. Getting ready to go back into town to get the second one.

She looks like shes shedding and has some skin on her.

Try "completely covered in dead skin". It's bad enough that she's lost a few toes.

    Petco. Go figure.

Anyways. Both lizards are snoozing, one of which is in the food bowl. Male has already lost a lot of dead skin from scurrying around today and is looking better. I figure that on Sunday, I'll give them both a warm bath to try and get some more of the dead skin to come off.

Well petco is kind of like having a rescue. Best of luck with them.

The female got a bath so I could try and work some of the shed off of her, plus I figured that it'd help rehydrate her. Her colors honestly look a little brighter. No idea if it's my imagination or not. Either way, as soon as I was done, I went and plopped her back under the head lamp. She still has a lot to lose though.

They have an offering of: chopped up blueberries, green grapes, bananas, and celery leaves, plus a couple of crickets. So, a pretty hefty offering.

Big girl ate today. Just a calcium dusted cricket, but something in her is better than nothing. Cypher is shedding off his stuff quite nicely and I have plans to give him a bath later today to get more skin off him. I figure the more I get off them, the better they'll absorb the UVB and metabolize their food. As far as I know, he hasn't ate, but he's better off than her.

..Yeah. it's kinda rude to post on someone else's thread looking for an ID. I don't know what your lizard is.

Cypher got a bath yesterday and I was able to get a decent amount of dead scales off him. He's pretty active and I'm fairly sure that he's hunting the crickets I put in for them. Ramoth is a lot more sedate and tends to lay around. However, I was able to get her to eat a couple crickets today. I had to hand feed her with feeding tongs since she seems to lack the energy to really move around. Still misting them down, so I know that they're both getting liquid.

Annoying that I can't edit my posts after a certain amount of time.

Dumped in some crickets that were dusted with vitamins rather than the calcium that they have been. I figure that the vitamins will mostly be flushed out when they crap, but anything extra that they can pick up will be of benefit, especially for Ramoth. She's really taking it easy while Cypher is quite active. Anytime I put in crickets I offer her some. So, we'll just have to see how she does.

She seems to be only interested in eating every other day. I haven't seen her poop yet, but that might be because her intestines are empty. I've seen Cypher go though.

Cypher is doing well. He ate 10+ crickets today and went hunting. He looks like he's nearly shed out, but still has a bit clinging to him.

Ramoth is still quite sluggish, but she ate two or three crickets today, and used the bathroom last night. She spends most of her time sleeping, which is probably good since she's conserving energy.

Ho'kay. Ramoth is trying to go off food, so I'm having to force feed her. Snagged some wax worms and some reptaboost. Going to give some of that to her. I think she's just so weak that it's killed her food drive. Once I got some baby food down her yesterday, she really perked up.

Ramoth died this morning. I noticed yesterday that she was smelling like something dead, but I wasn't sure if it was her, or her toes. Either way, all I can really say is that I tried.

Cypher on the other hand, is a pig. 5 waxworms, 7 meal worms, and 4 crickets.

Pretty sure I know what killed Ramoth. Prior to boxing him up, Petco wormed him with panacur, and as far as I know, did not run a fecal, and probably didn't weigh him, either. Means I need to keep an eye on Cypher.

Might be noticing I'm referring to Ramoth as a "he" instead of a "she".

Well, Ramoth died while I was at class, and mom had a doctor appoint today. I got home just as my parents were leaving since they were going to take him back to the store for a refund. Another pet store, a much better one has another plated lizard, and so, they ended up getting her. With plated lizards, makes have a frill on their back legs. Ramoth had one, the new lizard doesn't.

So, the new girl. Much healthier. This means I potentially have a breeding pair. Currently, the two are in separate tanks in separate rooms. They won't meet up for about 90 days. I know she's healthy, I'm more wanting to make sure that Cypher doesn't have anything. This will also give him time to gain his weight back.

    Re: The new guy
No new pictures this time around.

New girl is doing fine. She's hunting and eating, but spends most of her time burrowed down. Cypher is doing quite well. I weighed him tuesday and he was sitting at 76 grams. I weighed him yesterday and he was sitting at 80. That's probably because he's getting a large number of waxworms along with mealworms and some crickets.

I also got the novel idea to water down the calorie supplement a bit and inject the wax worms with it to give him a bit of a calorie boost. Still need to work out the kinks in the idea though.

She was a case of "I know she's most likely going to die, but it's better to try instead of letting her rot there."
