    butter ball
Well its been a while since iv been here but im back with another question. I think now that i have my own house i can start expanding my snake collection and iv.came across a butter ball. Its a male about a year old i believe. I can post pics and.how much it weighs later. Im just curious how much hes worth? He looks very colorful atleast to me. I want.to start breeding but i dont even know what you can mix with a butter and what you can produce. I live in cleveland and we have a reptileshow every month so snakes seam cheaper here then normal for.example a bumble bee is about 450$ and a pied ball is about 800 to 850. Thanks chris

Not sure where you have been looking but that is not much cheaper unless they are absolutely the best ever possible examples. As far as your question it would really depend on the quality of the animal so pics would help.

You're lucky to have reptile shows so often. I get maybe 6 per year down here in TX. And prices are average. In fact most bumblebees down here are 400$ and pieds are 700-900$

I've seen male bees go for $250 these days. Females for more.
And male pieds range from $500-800.
And these are non show price.

I say your male butter is worth $150. ($200 at the very highest)

Im just trying to build my collection up i currently only have 2 red tails and 1 carpet

Where are you seeing these prices at? The prices i see at the reptile show are way cheaper then i see em sell fornonline if i could find a bee for 250 right now id buy it. Butters are worth more then pastels right? Pastels usually sell for around 150 i thought. Anyone else want to chime in? Oh that butter weighs 228 grams

Holy smokes - where are you finding balls at those prices?!? I haven't ever seen a pied for less than $600 unless it was a NO white pied male and even that was $550. I wanna move to where you live.......... ;)

Male butters / lessers are going for an average of 200-250. I would say 160 is an extremely good price and that male is goreous - a beautiful example of the morph. I am very picky when it comes to butters as they are my favorite morph and I would pay 160 for that animal. Incidentally, why are you "trying to build up your collection" with no real goal in mind - or do you have a goal? I don't mean any offense - just curious! :gj:

    Kingsnake and Fauna classifieds.

Butters are worth more than pastels. Male pastels run from $50-75. Females for $100-200 depending on quality.

Wow. Just goes to show, location is everything. :P

Still haven't seen any on KS for that, but that's hit or miss and I don't browse the BPs too much - more into the boas. :gj:

I agree with Nikki 100%. Quality examples will command a higher price but her averages are pretty consistent with what I have seen even at shows.

I didn't disagree with her - just wowed that prices seem to vary so much dependant on location. I would not have thought prices would swing so much. I do know quality demands a higher price and I am one of those that would much rather pay more for a stellar example then save a few bucks on a lower quality animal. I would buy with the intention of breeding, so I want the best I can buy. :gj:

My goal is to breed. But my plan for my sunglow redtail fell through when she passed away after being fed a bad rat from the pet store (long story yes took her to the vet and yes im feeding f/t now.not live) also my buddy is getting into snakes thanks to me so that splits costs in half for a pair to breed.

I honestly don't think I gave 'low' prices. I buy most of my snakes online from KS. Im on the West Coast. Maybe the East is cheaper since 80% of my snakes are from there??

But Those are the prices I see for today's 2013 market. I definitely saw Evenstar's pricing back in 2011- early 2012.
Bees were ~$500. Butters were ~$250-400. Not so much these days...

Gotcha! :gj: Sorry to hear about your red tail - that's too bad.... :(

You might be better off getting this fellow rather than waiting for an expo. You never know what expo prices will be and if you like this guy, snap him up. I'm still thinking this is a really good deal for this snake. Of course, it's up to you. :gj:

That's actually kind of nice to hear - at least from my perspective, lol. I'm not into balls as much as boas, but I love the butters/lessers enough that I'd like to pick one up. I'd love to find a high quality one and still save a little $$. Think I'll have to start searching for one..... ;)
