    unexpected...
so i was just going about my usual routine for a monday, clean the baby tubs, go buy some feeders. even picked up a new male pastel today. 600g btw. but to make things better, i went around the side of my rack to see where my lesser was hiding so i could feed her and looked down one tub to see a pearly white popping outa someone. I DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT! she showed no signs what-so-ever except going off feed. but i assumed that was just because i dropped the temps for the whole rack. 4 eggs and counting. o, and this was my het axanthic that i paired with my spider het axanthic. crossing my fingers for axanthic spiders!

thanks. i had to rush to get the incubator ready too. i rearranged the room about a week ago when i moved an 8 tub 41qt rack in and movced everything around, but didnt put the incubator back in. and not 10 minutes before i saw her with eggs i looked at it and thought "nah, itll be a little bit". lesson learned

Congrats....on the unexpected clutch. I am not sure if the eggs are in the tubs or not yet. If they are do not leave them exposed to those high temps too long. Fingers crossed for some sweet Axanthic Spiders.

she laid a total of 8 eggs. this being my first clutch ever i feel like i lucked out. not a single slug and the mom is doing great! the eggs are in the incubator, shes all cleaned up and back in her house, and im gonna try some food tomorrow and see if she takes. thanks all for looking. ill keep this thread going as my other girls lay theirs and they start hatching out. this is the clutch i was hoping for overall. only 55 days to see what i get! the anticipation is gonna kill me. o, and no, they werent in the incubator when i had the temp that high. lol. running a smooth 31.6C now.

    update
so 6/8 of the eggs molded and went bad. they had no blood vessels. the other 2 are starting to grow mold, but i think i saw some blood vessels in them. not 100%. why could this happen? do you think she held the eggs in for too long, or they were just infertile from the get-go?

If you did not see any veins in them from the start, they were infertile. Fertile eggs show good veins from the day they are lain, and the veins just get more noticeable as they mature. If this was her first clutch, don't be too surprised, it happens to the best of us no matter how much experience we have.

I am sorry things did not go your way, it's very hard to have happen, especially when we have our hopes up.

Best wishes to you for future clutches.

Could be what Gale has mentioned above or your substrate was too wet. Did you notice veins when they were laid? I am going to go with your substrate was too wet only becasue the same thing happened to me with my first clutch. Pics of the current ones in the setup would help.

yea. none at all. and the other 2 are done also. im a little upset about it because it was my first ever clutch with a great pairing, but i guess things like this happen.

honestly, i didnt check for veins before i put them in the bator. but theres no way it was the substrate, because i keep all my adults and juvies on newspaper. i pulled them all as soon as she was done. took about 3 hours. but i have no control over her so, what can i say? lol

sidenote, ive got another 2 that just had their prelay shed. im speculating these ones wont have any complications based just on the fact that theyre proven breeders. these are my male cinny woma with another normal and my male fire with yet another normal. still waiting to see something out of my spinner x normal pairing.

overall, i think ive seen the worst that can happen to the eggs (infertile) and lost out on the best clutch i could have possibly gotten this year. im upset to say the least, not financially however. i love these animals and just want to breed some wicked snakes. just gonna hammer on.

I think he meant substrate, as in the egg tub medium :)

I'm sorry for your loss, I was looking forward to what you got, too! But at least it was an unexpected clutch and not one you'd been anticipating all along :) best of luck with your future possibilities, and hopefully you got the 'bad clutch' out if the way and on to great viable clutches!!

thanks everyone. and OH! in the bator. i use hatchrite. sinse im relatively new at breeding i didnt wanna take chances on the moisture with vermiculite.

I think they meant the substrate you used for incubation might have been too moist. The hatchrite may have been the culprit. I have not heard great things about it on here.

    Sorry that happened : /
