I almost Stole it!
Hello have you ever gotten a deal that you almost felt "Guilty" that you got such a deal from the person down on their luck? I think we have all been up and down when trading or selling so Tell us the Best deal you have ever gotten on a Reptile and the worst deal you have ever gotten when selling? Example would be I bought a 1200 gram female Mojave off craigslist from a guy needing money for 150.00, Or I had to Sell a Albino for 100.00 to get some Diapers or something.

:O wow that's a deal!! Haha, do the beardies have anything to do with this?? Ha

I'm not sure if this counts...but my two newest additions might prove out to be practically stolen?
But, until either prove out, nothing is in stone.
Purchased as a female yb ($135) Speculation - yb fire

Re: I almost Stole it!
That is two very awesome looking snakes. :gj:

3.2 U. lineatus and 2.1 U. fimbriatus RTB for $800.
1.1 N. Amyae and 1.1 N. levis levis RTB for $1075
Early 2012 female Enchi Lesser for $1000, this was when Enchi Lessers were up for $1950
My worst deal was probably purchasing an old pair of U. Pietschmanni only to have them die a year later due to old age complications and a follicle cyst on the female. $800
Depending on how this trade I'm in now ends it could also be my worst deal. 13 C. ciliatus hatchlings in March 2012 worth avg of $80 each for a future trade off that didnt come up until last week. The trade was proposed to be a leopard spider but now we are finding out that it is just a spider that is dehydrated, skinny, and corkscrewing. Fun times indeed :gj:.

Re: I almost Stole it!
Last December I picked up a Spider Mojave male for 150$. I couldn't pass him up. Yes he has a wobble, but every other Spider Mojave at the reptile show was 450-600$ so I still felt like a got a great deal.
And I'm currently paying for a Mystic Pastel female to go with him. She is costing me 700(shipped), which I think is an awesome deal since most Mystic females alone cost 600+shipping.
On the FLIPSIDE, I almost laughed in the face of a woman I met who told me her spider ball python babies were 400$ each.

I got my (practically fluorescent) female lesser for $100 when I bought my pin... Couldn't pass up a deal like that!!
-
I purchased a kojave female for 200 ( in 2010 ) she possible het pied. at the rime theonly other mojave at this sow was 400 bucks. I won't find out until nex year ( at the rate she eating ( once she hit the 1000gram wall) she just now starting back so it may be another year or 2 to find out if she is actually het pied.
In oct of this pass year I got a spider het pied for 100 bucks( not much wobble but ) again Iit only possible het pied until I can produce a pied using him. )
Possible worst trade we ( my wife and i done) depending on how you look at it . 1.1 visible ablinos and a 0.1 proven het ablino for a male ivory and an male lemonblast and we paid 200 bucks more.
prolly the most I gotten scerwed over was 12 bucks for a shirt (righ size ) but didn't find out until 2 weeks later when I go to put it on for the irst time it had a holes in the lower end ( like was snagged on something) ( shirt still in the bag from when I purchased it)

Re: I almost Stole it!
I picked up a 2012 pastel vanilla male for $170 at a show after I asked a trusted breeder friend to look at the snake and verify it was a pastel vanilla. Guy was asking $200 and without any prompting from me told me he could do better.
Animal is healthy, eating well and mite free.

Did you ask your friend bc you thought it was too good to be true or bc the snake wasn't that nice of a pastel vanilla...? I think i get what you mean, but the way you said that made me go "waitttt a minute..." Lol.

Because I thought it was too good to be true, and I don't have a lot of personal experience with vanilla's. I was told they easily sell for triple and quadruple the original asking price.
I've been told he's a very nice example of one, since then.

I was owed a debt, and so he paid in electronics. With said electronics, I turned around to a 2012 Pastel Female and a 2012 Lesser Female. The debt wasn't that large, but he handed me a $400 dollar camera and I swapped out for the Pastel and Lesser.

There's an orange dream ball python at a nearby petco, labeled as normal and for sale at $40. Oh, if only I had my own house!

I doubt it, but prove us wrong by all means. That would be a great find.

Upwards of 1k, usually around 1500+ or so. OD's aren't exactly easy to ID if you're not familiar with them, which is why buying from a reputable breeder is a must. But, if you found what you thought was an OD in a petstore for $40, you could always raise it up and breed it to see if your thoughts were correct.
-
Just picked up that $40 possible OD. It definitely has a lot more orange coloring than my other normal/harlequin striped ball python, and stood out among all the normals it was kept with. I'll post pics later.
I know it can't be normal! :)
-
My bps were all bought as what they are and I paid accordingly, but I did just buy a columbian BCI as a normal het albino, and according to the members of this forum she is in fact an arabesque het albino :) We paid 150 for her, and I found arabesque het albinos from a breeder here in Canada for 500 a pop :P So I'm feeling pretty good about that xD
-- She gets here Monday!--

I'm so jealous on all the good deals everyone is finding. I have yet to get a good deal like everyone here. I take that back I think I found a great deal one time on something ( not a Bp ) but of course I was broke at the time lol
-
Best deal was last year when I bought a local guy's collection from Craigslist (Adult Females - 2 Super Pastels, Lemonblast, Fire. Adult Males - Bumblebee and Fire. And a 6 tier Freedom Breeder rack.) value of around $6,000 for only $2,100. Everything was perfectly healthy and in excellent condition.
Worst deal - Never had one. I always trade up or trade for something that's valuable to ME. And I never sell an animal for less than I'm satisfied with. This is MY hobby and it makes ME happy at ALL times. :P
