Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup
So since I can't breed for several years I'm living vicariously through all you can that can and do. :P Also I'm taking this time to read up and store away as much information as I can for when that time comes. I'm already thinking of a name for myself, how to take payment, general website setup, what I'll need, etc.
If you guys don't mind, I'd love to see pictures of your snake rooms and/or snake racks. Eventually I think I will try to build my own to avoid spending several thousand.

Re: Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup

Yay! Thank you!

Re: Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup
Here's what I have for my ball pythons: females on bottom, males/juvies on top. This picture was also taken before I put the snakes in that rack and before they have name tags put on. But, it gives you the idea.
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/6783/99693334.jpg
This is where I keep my corn snakes. The labels have changed, but it shows it pretty well. The tubs are extremely tight (building error on my part), so I will be upgrading this rack similar to one like the ball python rack.
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/8339/img0452jr.jpg
Another thing I like about this rack is that I have two strips of flexwatt. Since my corn snakes live on the bottom two rows with one strip of flexwatt, the top two rows are empty. When I get my babies, the top two rows will become my hatching rack. I can hold 16 6qt tubs on there. I'll be building a 12qt hatchling rack in the coming months.
I keep all my snakes in my bedroom for now. However, when I get my own house, I will be setting up a reptile room specifically for my growing collection and all those animals I'm plotting to buy :D

Kat, I love the spot for your kitty! The first thing I'm getting when I get to my house is a couple of cats. I planned to put them a litter box in the snake room as well ;)

Man I'd love to put the kitty litter in the snake room.. but I'm afraid my cat is going to torment my rats and snakes as he has done in the past! Jerk!

awe! I had a cat before I moved to where I am now. I had to rehome her due to allergies. She used to watch the snakes all day. She wouldn't touch the tanks or anything, but she would always stare and watch. I'm hoping that when I get the kittens, I'll be able to train them not to mess with the snakes. A waterbottle or a jar of pennies works wonders.

Re: Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup
Here is our room, recently reorganized and added a RB 41qt breeding rack. Waiting on a second five shelf RhinoRaxx due the end of this month, but here is our room in it's current state :-)

You know the cats don't really seem to care. They'll watch them but they don't really bother them. One of our cats sits in front of the racks looking at them all and I always imagine she's saying, "Yes! Sleep now my minions, for in the morning: we conquer!!" Or something along those lines. Haha. My issue I have is with one of my beagles. He LOOOVES kitty turds. So I put the litter box in the snake room and prop the door open just a bit with this: http://latchnvent.com/ Works great! The cats can get in and do their business in peace and the dog gets kept away from the litter box. It also helps to keep heat and humidity in the room without it getting stuffy. I also have a ceiling fan running in there. Keeps the room about 76. :)

Thanks guys! Neat to see the variety! Now for the racks where do you get those, what did you use to make them, just generally how did you guys get them set up for snakes? :) Are they just normal home and office stuff (if so mind posting where from?) or are they reptile specifically made?

Yeah if you look where my grandma is in the first pic, that's the way out of my room. You actually have to turn sideways to get out

I got my black, enclosed racks from Reptile Basics. I LOVE them. Rich is awesome and ships quick! I think I ordered mine on a Tuesday and it came in that following Saturday. Most other places have a 2-10 week turnaround time.
My other rack I made from a 5 shelf storage unit that I got from home depot. I glued panel board against the grate so the snakes can't get out and I cut the tubing so they rest on top of my tubs. I modeled this rack off this guy but with a few adjustments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLDxk2yp2Vs
Also, there's an entire DIY forum where people have posted how to build all their racks. You should browse through there and see what you like.
If you want to buy racks, I would 100% recommend Reptile Basics (I have the CB-70 rack and the sweaterbox rack) or Animal Plastics. Both are top notch racks!

The white rack is homemade we bought of someone and is HEAVY! We order our RhinoRaxx from Boaphile and strongly recommend them, very sturdy but light and high quality. We buy our Animal Plastics 41qt Breeder directly from NERD. We only have one, and they are excellent quality!

You are lucky!!! My cat is too curious for his own good. He likes to watch the snakes... but he torments my geckos and rats. :( and likes to play on the racks/cages... especially with the wires behind. NO THANKS CAT.
My dog thankfully has no taste for cat turds :P

Aww that sucks :( yeah, my cat... is rambunctious. Spray bottle does nothing. Do you put the jar of pennies on something so they don't jump on surfaces?

My white rack is DIY by me. The black one is reptile basics second hand. All the PVC cages are boaphile and there are some exoterra tanks in there. And the Instacages (screen cages). I also have an exoterra monsoon misting system in there.

I would keep jars of pennies or Skittles in each room. Whenever she would do something she wasn't supposed to be doing, I would shake the jar. The sound was so loud and obnoxious that it would scare her and she's stop whatever it was she was doing. It got to a point where I would just reach for the jar and she would stop just to avoid me shaking the jar.
I've never met a cat who is immune/resistant to the jar of pennies.

I guess I could give it a try... my dog is very fearful of loud noises though. i don't want to freak her out too because she never does anything wrong! I usually verbally discipline the cat or clap loudly to get him to stop whatever he is doing. It usually works...

Re: Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup
just relocated to a different room in the house so i'll probably be rearranging for a while.
from the door way:

standing in front of the worms:
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ecc4e72.jpg
standing in front of the incubator:

standing in the skinny pig cage lol:
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...psc8c66645.jpg
and the long view of the piggie paradise:
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9674e1f7.jpg
Had to agree to share with the pigs to get a larger space. lol I had all of that crammed into a 8x8 room. by agreeing to put the skinnys in my reptile room I got to relocate to a 14 x 14 room. thinking of putting them on top of a row of 4 high pvc racks :) really make use of the space!

Re: Pic Request: Snake room/snake rack setup
Skinny pigs are hairless guinea pigs. I've got pics of mine in the mammals section I think its called how cute are these. I breed my own meal worms for the geckos and collard lizard and sell a couple thousand a month to a local pet store and a few friends. I also feed a few thousand a month to wild birds and my rats. Lol. As for the collection I'm down to about 4.16 balls, 1.2 dumerils boas, 2.1 rtb's, 3.4 corns, 3.6 asf, 6.32.90ish Norway's (which are in a seperate room), .1 eastern collard lizard, 0.0.1 rose hair t, .1 coastal carpet, .1 rose breasted cockatoo, few thousand meal worms, 5.5.1 (.1 in incubator) leopard geckos and 2.3 (.1 pending pick up) skinny pigs. And a pardtridge in a pear tree.

I know they're crummy iPhone pics, but I just didn't have time to take pics with my DSLR.
We've outfitted the room with XPVC racks from Greg at Cornel's World and they are working great! The only thing I may change is putting a couple of extra holes in the bins, but that can be done slowly.
Anyways, this is the view as you walk in; L to R is 2x MCBLL racks (male ball pythons), 3x MCBSS Hatchling Racks (ball pythons), ball python incubator, corn snake incubator

Very organized! I really love the setup you have. So neat and tidy. :) Thank you for posting.

Thank you, I quite enjoy this setup too! Before we had snakes in the living room, and snakes in the bedroom. Now it's only quarantine/new additions in our bedroom and everything else is in the snake room.
It makes it sooooooo much easier to care for them, when you know everything you need is right there, instead of running back and forth to get things.
