    Who's Got The Largest Carpet?
I just got done measuring my female coastal today and it got me wondering how big other peoples carpets are and if anyone has some real monsters out there.

My girl is about four and was grown slowly by her breeder like the rest of his snakes and was around 4 1/5 feet when I got her and weighed 700gs. Today I measured her at 5'3" and 1700g. I know shes behind on a lot of coastals her age but I think thats some pretty good growth for less than a year. Its interesting to see how quickly a snake that was fed every other week to once a month in the winter can up their growth once they are given food on a more regular basis.

Now I know in the wild coastals have been know to get up to 13ft, which is the record I think, but I was curious how big other peoples snakes are and what a good average to expect from my girl. I'd be happy to hear about other monster Morelia too if you have them as I enjoy the entire genus.

    Who's Got The Largest Carpet?
I have one Coastal female that is a little over a year old, she is 5.5' already.

My next two big girls were a rescue type. Not sure of the bloodline or age.

She is over 6' but thinner

    Who's Got The Largest Carpet?
I can't remember her hatch date.

Here she is about a year ago. :)

I'm hoping she will be a monster. I don't "power feed" I do feed once a week, but her meal doesn't even leave a lump.

    I love Carpets :D

Last time I measured she was 7.5' she's probably about 8' now. I got her about 4 years ago as a rescue, if what the previous owners told me was correct that would make her ~13 years old.

Bad pics but shows her length

Looks about the size my bredli currently is, I cannot wait for to put some size on, shes already quite long. But over 5 ft in a year sounds good to me!

What's your version of power feeding? because I start hatchling Carpets off on day old rat pinkies every 5 days for the first year and then every 7 days and once adult 6-10ft size once every 2 week. It's almost impossible to overfeed a baby Carpet python unless you feed it every 2 days, as they have a pretty high metabolism. Carpet pythons are known for being able to take prey items far larger than the widest part of their body. Like I said I start hatchling Carpets on day old rat pinkies and move along from there as this decreases chance of your carpet being a "Mouser" which is a pain in the butt, and rat pinks have more nutrition than mice. I've been keeping nothing but Carpet pythons for the last 3 years and have dealt with over 150-200 Carpet pythons from work to my personal collection.

You feed them rat pinks for a year?

I'm at work right now and my records are at home. I have only fed her every 7 days and never an item that ever left a big lump.

LOL No! Obviously I go up in food size as needed, by the end of the first 12-14 months they should be eating rat pups up to small rats.

I start off on Rat Pinks, then to Rat Fuzzies, Rat Pups, Rat Crawlers, Small Rats etc. But leaving a small lump in your Carpets tummy isn't a bad thing at all, I've learned from some of the best Carpet Python breeders. Feeding every 7 days is a fine schedule to feed but you should switch to rat pinkies if I were you to avoid a mouser Carpet python as feeding a 5ft+ snake 3-4 mice every feeding is a pain in the butt.

Haha ok. I misread the whole thing. I thought you were saying I was "power feeding" and that I should be feeding rat pinks the first year. :o

Yeah, my Carpets never see mice. I also don't think leaving a large lump is a bad thing. Just with her, I have never gave her a larger meal. She is on medium rats now.

I have also gave them chickens and Guinea pigs.
