    "Intermediate" level snakes
I'm not sure how to exactly use the term "intermediate" but you get the idea :) I've had my snakes for over a year now and I'm thinking about getting one more and want something different. Possibly a nice display snake. I'm leaning towards a BRB but I just want some other opinions because I can't think of anything else right now :)

    What do you guys like?

Are you leaning more towards something for display? Or something that is just a little harder to handle than a BP?

I love my Woma python, he is a little nippy but a fun little guy. Also STPs, and BCIs as mentioned before are great.

I'd LOVE to get a SD retic some day. Not sure if they'd be considered intermediate or advanced though...

To be safe, I'd label any animal that can hit 20 feet as advanced. Maybe a Dwarf or Superdwarf, though! :)

My BRB doesn't make a great display animal. He is never out. I put him in the rack and is happy as can be. He is always in his hide, in the rack.

    Look into Carpets.

LOVE my carpet, but she prefers to stay in her hide as well. Maybe something that isn't nocturnal?

Either a BCC or a Blood would make a great "intermediate" snake. I like Bloods though, there are some VERY impressive-looking morphs that would definitely give you that "wow!" factor, like Reds, Blacks and T+. You couldn't go wrong with a Borneo or Sumatran either! :gj: And their size is nothing to sneeze at either.

So basically pretty much every type of Blood Python is AWESOME.

Carpets are very attractive, but I've heard they can be temperamental, then some I see are like puppy dogs. Would a carpet be a good next snake? I've never had any experience with them.

Babies can be nippy but grow out of it pretty quick. I have even got adults to calm down within a few weeks.

    I highly recommend them

I think a GTP will be fine. Find a established juvie with decent temperament. You just cannot beat them for a display animal.

Central American boa :) come in crazy patterns and some come fluorescent! Picked one up two weeks ago and all my friends love looking at him. Super active and likes to show off his climbing skills :) http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/07/ysysa8u2.jpg

    Here's his pattern

You can't beat a Jungle carpet python for a display snake you can actually handle. Mine are both very tame (they are active while being handled though). They are easy, reliable feeders and mine are always out in the open. Only the male ever uses his hide box and that's only when he is in shed. Speaking of which, needing more humidity at shed time is the only reason these are "intermediate" snakes IMHO. My carpets are my favorite snakes and my jungles are my absolute favorites.

My patternless spotted has a dangerous looking face, and is very active. My friends always think he is very intimidating lol i think he is just a little energetic. Love me some Aussies.. pythons that is.

They also might be intermediate because they can be nippy as babies, which may detour someone who has never had a snake, and thinks getting bitten is the worst thing in the world :) lol

But they are very gorgeous, I sure do love me a jaguar carpet.

Aspidites (womas) and antaresia (spotted/childrens/stimsons) are easier snakes to keep than balls.

Less finicky when it comes to eating, less demanding when it comes to husbandry - there are almost bulletproof. They are true beginner species.

That's true! Jaguars are next on my list. I especially love the pure coastals. When the price comes down I'd, also, like to get into granites and zebras. Right now I have, in addition to my jungles, a pair of Irian Jayas and a pair of diamond/ coastals.

Hey Erica! I've had a pair of Macklotts that I raised from babies in the past. Like carpets they are nippy as babies, then grow into tame adults (most of them anyway!). I really miss them. I wish I never would have traded them away.

There are so many possabilities.. My carpet happens to be aggressive but my ATB is super tame so that's kind of ironic. My amazon tree boa is an excellent display snake with gorgeous colors but they are not really a handling snake. I would also recommend a BCI. My boa is out all the time climbing and he s super tame and a fantastic eater. They are really beautiful, too. You can't go wrong with a boa.

I have a dumerils :) she's my baby! Lol but not quite big enough to move into her permanent enclosure. She always hides though, will she be a good display snake when she's grown?

Nice Dumerils! Have one as well and as far as display all you see is his head, the rest burrowed. GTP's are where its at for display though. If not GTP then carpets.

My big (>5.5 Ft) BRB only displays well when he soaks, otherwise you will find him in a hide. I do love when he starts to blue, I think he looks awesome this way. Maybe I'm just strange. And other than needing good humidity he has not been hard to keep.

You hands down can not beat a GTP or ETB for a display animal. My GTP though very manageable has his days where he decides I should bleed. I would consider him intermediate.

My blood, and I know yall already crossed them off the list :tears:, is not a display snake at all. I never see her out of her hide or her newspaper. She is my favorite to handle and puppy dog tame. I Would put her on the easy to keep list. But the trio of bangka x albino babies I just got would make the intermediate list. The male is especially nippy when bothered.

And someone mentioned a hoggy. Other than she will only accept live pinks she is really easy to keep. She also does not display well but she does usually make an appearance during the day and climb around a bit.
