As a side note...at the most recent Wasatch Reptile Expo in Salt Lake a guy got bit in the face by a big yellow girl around 10' long. It was a good bite...lots of blood...I wouldn't recommend it. Treat all big snakes with the respect they deserve! especially if you are told that they are nasty and have a reputation of biting...lol.

Nice collection you have going there! Yeah man, my anacondas are usually really nice, calm snakes, but they have their days/moments where I use a hook just to be safe! Each snake is different and I can usually tell when they're grumpy.

Re: Who's been bit?
I've had 8 snakes(7 BPs) in the last 3 years with my 9th on the way. Hours and hours of handling and lots of feedings. Still have never been bit. Even aggressive snakes are puppy dogs in my hands. I don't know what it is about me.

I've been bit quite a few times, and it always hurts. I always make sure to disinfect since they like dirty water so much. The babies are the worst, and the most nippy--I call them little devils.

When I had to relocate my girl she was about 7 foot, and weighed a good bit and I miss her and when I moved into my house I tried to get her back from the guy but he wouldn't do it. Anyways, the only time she ever bit me was when she was a few weeks old, and she was shipped to me, I opened the box and undid the pillow case and poured her in my hand, she latched onto my thumb, then I moved her to my other hand and she bit that one too, I put her in her tank and left her alone for a week. She hasn't bit me after that and she was always a sweet heart. If Tim Bailey or Sean from EBN ever come on you can ask them about her, she was the nicest snake you'd meet, She loved to be rubbed under her head and as most people know a lot of snakes are head shy, though I always took precaution when handling her it was still nice that she was my gentle giant.

None of the snakes you have are really aggressive. Three years is not that much time. You will be bit. Please do not delude yourself into thinking you are the "snake whisperer" because we all do and a snake ends up proving us wrong and that's the truth. Not trying to be an ass or anything. Until I started adding a retic, short tails, and bloods to my collection it was smooth sailing. We are all curators not the masters.

This is absolutely right. If you keep snakes it's not a matter of "if" it's a matter of "when" lol. That being said I've only ever been bit by ball pythons. Still looking forward to the day my short tail nails me; she doesn't strike but I'm sure there will be an accident some time.

Man isn't that the truth!! We have a female, normal Royal python and she's been a gem for the last year. I don't picture her biting although someday she may. She made me think I'd never be bitten.
I have a new, male, Colombian boa that is 11 months old and he introduced me to what happens to overly comfortable snake owners.

No pain, I actually laughed and he was obviously waiting for another rat (he only gets one always) after downing one. I was moving some substrate back into place and taking out the news paper I use to keep sub out of his mouth. I should have waited.
He had just finished the tail here and I was tagged right after this picture.

I could not imagine the feeling from a bigger snake like an anaconda with some weight behind it. Depending on the snake one mistake might be all you get unless you are smart and have a second person and a plan of action.
Funny (my little bite), yet good reminder that these animals have very strong instincts when it comes to feeding and defending themselves.
I'm happy I got tagged when he was small as the lesson will keep me on my toes. I still love the guy and appreciate him even more for what he is, but if he hits 7 feet and gains some substantial weight I won't be looking forward to another bite.
