Is this Normal from a known breeder?
The Mystic he sent died in transport due to it being to cold. All others survived. He is now telling me if I add another 250 he'll send another. I don't know but to me that doesn't seem right.

Who is the breeder? If it died in transport, they should replace the animal or refund the money.

Do you have emails you can post (yours and the seller's), so we can get a better idea of what happened? If you want to leave out the seller's name at this point, that's fine.

I would send them all back and ask for my money back. That is BS and more than likely if one died the others aren't far from death.

Idk sounds fishy. He should be sending you a new snake unless you asked him to ship it when the weather was too cold. Did he give a guarantee?

Not really. Because I was in process of buying more before this happened. It was sent the day before the tornado warnings in Tennessee. There where no delays at all ..There was one heat pack for 7 small and a lare snake..but he was ice cold when i got him.

Hmm that isn't right. Were your temps high enough to ship safely? If not, then you should have held the shipment at the hub to avoid being on a cold truck... or just waited to ship until the weather was warmer.

He PM'd me the breeders name...it is definitely a big breeder. The breeder's terms are as follows:

"If you do have trouble with any animals you receive from us within one week of receipt, please contact us and let us help you find a solution to the problem. If a replacement is necessary, we reserve the right to replace the animal with a similar animal that has the same value. If the animal cannot be replaced, we will give you credit towards a different type or towards a future purchase. We do not give out cash refunds. "

The only reason I can see the breeder is asking for an extra $250 is if the similar animal is really worth that much more. BUT if they are the same genetics, there shouldn't be that big of a price difference.

And if it was too cold to ship, then the BREEDER should not have shipped...especially knowing who it is!!

Screw it, I'll say it. It was Royal Constrictor Designs....I advised the OP to post his emails here regarding the replacement, and to contact Garrick.

And thats the thing..I told him it died. and he told me to heat it for 3-4 hours and see..then the conversations about it stopped and heard less until today

Hmm...well according to the OP, he payed $550 for the first one, and that is the price of the 2 males on the website that are still available.

According to the breeders terms, it should be a direct replacement...but I dunno at this point :(

Take it to the BOI and do ALL correspondence in writing, no phone calls.

For sure, though, go to the BOI.

    This isn't right.

Definitely post on the BOI, and get everything in writing, but if he isn't answering your emails, all you have left is to call him.

Re: Is this Normal from a known breeder?
Sorry to hear about the trouble and your loss but the others are right in saying that you need to first, make sure everything is in writing so email. You also need to post on the BoI. Be prepared to answer questions AND post every bit of evidence you have. This includes emails, pictures, etc. Trust me, if you read through the threads there, it's amazing how a non-responsive breeder quickly turns around once there is a thread posted and people see what is happening. You should not have to pay an additional $250 for a replacement since the snake was DoA. Just remember to be respectful and put the facts there no matter how upset you might be. Granted, I'd be pissed if it happened to me, but the community is pretty good at helping fix things like this and a big breeder like that doesn't want people seeing them not taking care of their customers so they should make it right even if it takes a BoI thread to do so.

No it's not normal generally speaking any reputable breeder will have live arrival guarantee which means if an animal dies during shipping (rare but it can happen) you should get a full refund or replacement (depending on availability) at no cost to you.

The only way someone would not refund or replace the animal is if the guarantee was void for whatever reason (recipient not present when the animal was delivered etc) , or your inability to provide necessary proof that the animal is indeed dead which is not the case here.

Shipped items don't got from point A directly to point B. Often there are points C,D,E and so on some of which can be freezing and there is no way to know beforehand how long the animals will sit in the cold.

Garrick doesn't like the BOI, but you should start a thread there. He's not treating you fair.

For what it's worth I would just talk to Garrick. Tell him how your feeling on the situation and I'm sure he will do something fair for you. He's one of the biggest names in the business he didn't get there by providing bad service.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Please keep us updated. I've purchased a snake from him before and I don't think I'll do business with him again. I was kind of disappointed because he seemed to be a great guy and a lot of people had positive things to say about him.

    Maybe it's just me.

I believe I'll be taking this thread with a grain of salt.

Nothing against you, please understand. But a new member who has been here a month and suddenly one of the biggest names in the business has refused to make good on a deal he had with you. Forgive me for being cynical, and hesitating to accept your word without hearing the whole story.

I asked the question to see if it was normal to ask for the other 250 for a replacement. And you're right I'm new on here, but not knew to owning snakes. I just bought mine in person. This is the first time over the internet. In no way did I say he refused anything. I stated he hasnt really spoken to me about it until today. You can take this any way you'd like.
