The silver tape is aluminum tape that is usually used for duct work but works great for this application. It's very sticky and very thin. You can get it at almost all hardware stores.

Looks good, but I don't see a fan. If you don't have something to circulate the air, it will get several degrees hotter on the top. Even the smallest of incubators have some type of air circulation. Here is a good place to get the fans: http://www.coolerguys.com

You can also get a variable speed cord so you can adjust the airflow. Good luck!

Is there any reason you went with just one heat tape on the back instead of one on each side?
I am going to need to set up my fridge soon and wondered if there was a reason. I will be putting a fan and some water bottles in mine.

The shelves would not be able to slide in If i put it coming down both sides. It was considered at first though. Yes fan and water bottles a must! Good luck on yours

Oh I see! I found many many many fridge builds with only the heat tape down the back and I replicated that in mine last night.

So I popped my vermiculite in a tub and put it in to test out things. I put a little over a pound of vermiculite, 2 cups of water. (Which weighs out to a pound) mix them all together and put her in. Is it suppose to look like this? My temps have stayed 89.8-90.7F the entire time.

Just had a couple of questions...

Is press and seal really necessary? I wouldn't want any humidity building over the eggs and dripping onto them..

P.S. I'm only using this little container with foil tape over the wholes for the test. Will run and get one tonight. Along with a fan.

Here you go! Not finished yet, and the heat tape is a little ugly. I bought some super sticky heat tape that left lots of adhesive when I needed to remove and reuse. Not suitable for the rack, as it is literally everywhere and sticks to the bins. But was just fine for the incubator!

And as for the press and seal. I got airtight boxes for my eggs. I am really not comfortable with humidity getting out and coming in contact with my heat tape and probe. Also, I had fruit flies get into my unsealed egg box and lay eggs in the wet substrate. A sealed box is just my preference.

And I noticed your therm probe in the egg box. I may have had a bad experience/older probe, but the humidity shorted out my probe and made my therm go haywire. I am using an independent thermometer to measure temp in the egg box.

I use regular 6.5qt boxes without press and seal and have had no problems.
Give it a weeks or so of run time and the condensation will die down a bit, I had my first one running a year before anything was in it and my big one up for about a week when I had to put a clutch in it.

Thanks. I was going to go with air tight boxes, but I would like a littttle ventilation in there. I got this lid so It would hold moisture In but still let It breathe a little without me having to put holes in the tub.

So here it is. All finished all ready to go haha. Sorry about my ghetto make shift fan ! But it works pretty bad Aceeee!
