Decision help- 10 year old female normal bp
I former co-work just contacted me that her son is joining the navy and since she remembered I have BP's would I be interested in buying his female bp. Since he's going into the navy and she can't/won't take care of her, they are motivated sellers. lol While she doesn't know the weight- the bp is well over 10 years old so it's probably well into breedable size.

I can make room for 1 more and it would be nice to have 2 breedable size females to work with. (I currently have 1:1 het VPI Axanthics which have had their first visible lock a few weeks ago.)

Especially since I am finallly buying a visable male pied at the upcoming show in June. So the questions are:
    1) Should I buy her?
    2) What's a fair price for a 10+ year old female (normal) bp?

I know the gentics of breeding anything I currently have to her will just be het. And even breeding the male pied to her will be 100% het pied.

Thanks in advance helping me off the fence one way or the other.

I would get pics of her and a weight before making a decision, and sex her too to make sure. She may be underweight and underfed even at 10 years old, you never know until you see her in person. Pricing depends on her size.

She sent me a pic- I have no doubt it's well over 2000grams and looking pretty healthy (in the pics at least). And I know she is an animal lover so I have no doubt it's been well cared for.

I do have some concerns on the gender but they are pretty certain it's a female it was popped when they bought her. If it wasn't for the facts it's a 2hr drive each way and I don't trust myself popping a snake to sex it (even if she wasn't so big) I'd try to sex her before hand. I typically have the local LLL reptile pop/probe for me.

If it's indeed over 2k grams and a female I would offer ~$100 or so (probably less if they just want to move her). I picked up three proven bigger clutch egg-laying big females all over 2K grams for $125-150 each, so if she's a virgin female I would personally pay a little less than that. Just my .02

Solid advice from Daybreaker...and also keep in mind, that you don't know who supposedly popped it when they first bought it, and if they knew what they were doing....

I would offer $70 max since it very well could be a big male normal.

Funny how everywhere else is in life a "virgin" usually gets more $$$. :D But yeah- she's a virgin/unproven. My friend just hinted at a small fee for the cage, bowl, lamp, etc. Honestly I'd be really surprised if she would even take more than $60 from me.

So given that it's a virgin, normal and possibly female, at 2000+ and in the $50-$80 range- deal or no deal?

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their advice/tips. I picked her up this past weekend. Got her settled in and she is definately eatting like a champ. I'll get her on the scale tonight and take pics but she is definately well into the 15+lb range- guessing she's pushing closer to 20lbs. I gave my friend $70 since she came with a huge tank (which I'll probably cl soon), undertank heater, 2 heating lamps, branch, etc. Now I just need to find someone local to San Diego I can arrange a breeding loan with.

Def. not a burm- I'd catch all sorts of hell from the gf for something that large. As it is I'm already having to pay through the nose this Valentines Day for the fact I brought a 3rd bp into the house. I may end up having to sleep in the rack with them if I bring any more home. I'll post pics and weights tonight when I get home.

Possible BP hybrid to a Blood or Angolan?
The biggest BP I've seen was less than half that size.
I definitely want to see pattern, head, pit and scale shots on this monster.

Ok just weighed her as best I could getting on and off the bathroom scale. Took a few attempts since she kept squirming but the average I got was someplace between 12-13.5bs. She definately feels heavier but the scale doesn't lie (even though I keep telling myself that every week when I get on it). I'll try again when she's a bit more calm. Definately a ball python- I'm sure she'd be much bigger if she was a hybrid. I took a few pics with my phone and I'll upload them as soon as I figure out how to upload to the site.

Don't take this as directed at you, but I'm still struggling to believe it without pics. That would make her over 6000g!

wow I just weigh my biggest female, still using a gram scale. I used a bucket to put her in. zero the scale with the bucket on it. she is going into a shed and was 5083 grams. and she's a beast. I know pics or it didn't happen. so here's a pic of her. I placed a male pastel clown that's almost 900 grams in to help in seeing how big she is. they are also in a cb70 tub. just wanted to show that there are some big females out there.

Maybe hold the snake while you are on the scale, then weigh yourself without her. I thought my 3000g girl was big, I've got to see this.

Re: Decision help- 10 year old female normal bp
could it be that this is only some kind of confusion because there are different kinds of pounds / lbs?

there is a reason why the metric system is taking over. length of snakes is still in feet in the USA, but for weight of snakes or of the rhodents that feed them, grams and kilograms have taken over completely.

anyway, ill assume its a very big normal female BP. in that case i would say: as a pet or just to have it, by all means, go for it. But i wouldnt breed a female that does not have any genetics going on, prices for normals are shamefully low, too much supply for the limited demand.

online in europe ive found a few normal BPs offered for free, sub-adults, and adults ive seen starting at 30 euros. babys/subadults can easily be found for 20-50 euros, adults for 50-70 euros. For properly feeding the animal and keeping it warm you probarbly pay more for rhodents and electricity to keep the snake half a year. Thats not really bad because it makes access into the hobby really cheap, but producing more normals isnt a good idea i think.

so as a pet / for fun: yes, get it if you like it, if you get the equipment with it it might be a good deal. (and who knows what happens if noone takes it). and for breeding i would say no.

the pic I just put up is 5083 grams is equal to 11.2061 pounds and I know another local breeder who has a normal female that's 5500 grams the last time he weigh her. there's balls that get way larger than the 11+ pound female I have. I think jon from cold blooded addiction ( a member on here) has one. 10 pounds is big but not unheard of.
