    Youngest breedable female?
    Hey

I am in no way a supporter of extreme powerfeeding. But I was thinking it would be interesting to know if anyone has succesfully bred a very young female bp. Again, I want to make clear that im not trying to start a contest or promote overfeeding, I just think it would be interested to hear peoples experiences:)

So please post the age and weight of your young females that laid viable clutches!

I don't do this, but I know someone who bred a 1 year old @ 1000g successfully. She laid a viable clutch that hatched fine.

I bred a female at about 1 1/2 years old at about 1,500 grams and she gave me 7 good eggs.

I've heard rumours of someone who bred a 700g but I see people breeding females at 1200g more frequently. 1500g is supposedly the magic number though. o:

I have one that I started pairing at 18 months at 1,800ish grams, laid at 22 months...fed on a fairly conservative schedule, just grew like a weed.

I had a female who was 1660 when she laid. 7 good eggs but they were all small (75-86g each). All the babies hatched just fine but again, they were all small (36-53g each).

^ This. My lemonblast laid 7 perfect eggs. On the flip side, I bred a 4-year old normal (1200g) that only laid three her first year. It's a combination of size and age, not one or the other.

Dunno if this applies to the thread but my friend has 07 pastel female thats in the upper 700 grams and lays 3 eggs consistantly every year. This past fall I bred a late 09 that just over 1000 grams when I started pairing her. She laid 4 big healthy eggs and they hatched this past weekend.

I don't breed any female under 18 months and the bigger the better (personal preference), that being said if I have a 3 or 4 year old that only weighs in at 1100 grams or so I will breed her (chances how she will always be a smaller female anyway)

My youngest/smallest was a ...20 month? Slightly less than 2 y/o spider female that I hadn't realized had actually locked up with the male - he wasn't a very good breeder that year and I only saw him lock up once with another female. She didn't have a huge noticeable ovulation, never got super huge, but one day I came home and she was sitting on a clutch of 7 huge eggs. At the time she was about 1200 grams, and I skipped breeding her the next season to ensure she bulked back up.

I start well eating chunky females at 17 months and 1200+ grams.

I've gotten numerous clutches from females that start breeding around 17-18 months old, they typically drop eggs around the 23rd or 24 month for me.

I seriously prefer larger females, but I don't wait just for a few hundred grams, especially when they almost always eat up to 1500 grams before growing follicles anyways.

To prevent snake eating, Jerry must be well watered and fed. Monitor Jerry and always keep a tool such as tongs on hand in order to put in his mouth if he tries to bite the snake.
