Okay this post http://www.ball-pythons.net/PNphpBB2...ic-t-2771.html got me thinking about things that are SO obvious once you learn what or why but so confounding when first approached! The example was what in the world is the R in ROTM?
    Answer - Reptile

here are some that got me:

    Why is Arby's called Arby's?

Roast Beef = R.B. as in "throw me some more of those R.B.'s Jonah, Eddie and Wizill showed up, we're gonna need a wheelbarrow" or - "Throw me some more of those Ar-By's"

Why is the filter of a Parliment cigarette recessed?

So that army troops could bite the end of the filter to hold in their mouths while smoking without affecting air flow too badly, also without having to taste filter juice. So troops could hold the cigarette in their mouths during hikes or combat by biting the overhanging section on the recessed filter.

    What does IMO stand for?

    In My Opinion.

    What about IMHO?

    In My Humble Opinion.

What are some that threw you for a loop?

Not that this anything reptile related but ...

In my newbie days as a freshman comp sci major i had a professor that always said RTFM. It took me one whole semester to figure out what in the world he was saying ;).

RTFM = Read the f*&$#@^ manual

I LOVE T-Mobile - they are the best cell phone service provider I have ever used (I've used Sprint, ATT, and Verizon) *sorry to get so off topic* :) but I LOVE my t-mobile phone and the customer service has been AMAZING!

LOL Smulkin, who sez ya can't have both? BTW, everbuddy, it's Catherine, not Katherine.

And related to what Carson was saying, here's a few more geek references:
ID10T (eye dee ten tee) error: user appears to be brain-dead
KBHI error: keyboard-human interface error (problem is user, not hardware or software)
ESO error: Equipment Superior to Operator (works for anything from a blender to a submarine)

Fifth Element is one of my all-time FAVS!! Mila J. is hot in that movie (and no, I'm not gay, not that there's anything wrong w/that)!! I'm glad ya'll like T-Mobile, for a big corporation (which in general, I can't stand, but I gotta make a living) they're the best to work for. Actually, if I'm gonna work in corp. then there's no other place I'd rather be...Zeta-Jones is pretty kewl, but to be honest, I liked Jamie Lee better, maybe that's cuz I got to meet her when we launched the T-Mobile name in this market (used to be VoiceStream)......I must say, you guys are a humorous bunch and I LOVE that!!!

haha here's one that isn't so obvious.... Jamie Lee was a hermaphrodite... well is I guess... I haven't found absolute proof but more than a few sources site a talk show where she tackled the issue....

    EDIT: http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/jamie.htm - interesting

It's an urban legend that's been circulating for years. Odds are that someone famous was born intersexed, just by the sheer numbers, but why Jamie Lee? Until she says it or her dad says it or an autopsy or other medical records confirm it, I think it's horse flop.

I tend to agree. Actually, she spoke at our launch party and if my memory serves me correctly, she brought that up--in a joking manner of course!

Air Force Acronyms of great use:
FUBAR: Fouled Up Beyond All Repair (I'll use the clean versions)
    AFU: All Fouled Up
FAI: Fly As Is (not necessarily one you want to hear about the plane you're riding in)
    OE: Operator Error
CF: Carry Forward (essentially the same as FAI)
NRTS: (pronounced "Nerts") Not Repairable This Station
ROAD: Retired On Active Duty, usually applied to a short-timer who's simply warming a chair until he or she gets their full time in.
FNG: Freakin' New Guy, the one who gets to do all the dirty work the ROAD won't do.
OIC: Officer In Charge, the guy who thinks he runs the place
NCOIC: Non-Comissioned Officer In Charge, the one who really knows what's going on, and who everyone actually listens to
BOHICA: Bend Over, Here It Comes Again
AFI: Awaiting Further Instructions, meaning you're likely to get stuck with the lousy jobs no one else wants.
TDY: Temporary Duty, meaning you can spend just as much time somewhere else as if you were transferred, but they don't have to move your family with you.
