Prolly start by turning off the heat so u dont cook it.. The. Put a rat by the vent it went imams a heat lamp/mat.. If u know the routing of the ducts u could give him access to get out at all of them..
U can also rent root rooters with camera ends from home depot so u can fish it in and find them then go an get into the vent

Well, I've had the lamp on for over an hour now. If only my patience wasn't so thin. Heat has been off since I found out about it. I don't know how to create an opening for her to get out of, because everything is bolted together in the basement. But I do have a rat in a cage sitting right at the opening.

Hate to state the obvious but...
Unbolt it! They should only be 8/10mm screws holding the ducts together

I'm too short. I have to wait for my partner to get home an hour from now. He knows how to handle that stuff. D;

And my partner is now here. Time to go digging. Wish us luck!

Well, she might have gone a lot deeper than we thought. It's hard to get through because all the plumbing and stuff was built after the heat was put in. Old old house. Still digging, though. Any other recommendations?

Your positive he went in the vent?

Actually, I just found a puked up mouse in the vent. That was the evidence that pointed there. I did, however, check throughout the house. Still looking.

What Do You Do
When was he last fed?
Is this vent on the first floor?
When you go into the basement does that vent connect to other vents or go right to the furnace?
Try to follow the easiest path that the snake would take.

How did it get In the vent the covers are typically pretty small.. Was the mouse in the fend or on it.. Snakes will regurge if they are stuck/trapped and need to thin out to get thru.. Saw it on animal planet when a burm was caught in a fence..
Good luck I hope I find him I lost a sunbeam anout 12 years ago.. Found her 2 days later dowen stairs and in the bathroom.. Must have had a hell of a trip past my 110lb black lab.. Regardless she ended up dying 3 days after I got her back
