Does he know when she's bred?

After the long wait for my BP's to grow up, this will (hopefully) be my first year to produce babies. There was so much excitement earlier in the season when I'd put two together to breed. Now they don't seem to care about each other at all. Do they know the deed's done and it's time to wait for eggs? Should I stop putting them together? Or should I keep putting them together just to make sure? Advice from the more experienced would be greatly appreciated.

I was told by a friend of mine that has been breeding now for 3yrs to continue until you see ovy.

When you see your female start to ovulate that's when he stops paring them up.

I'm in the same boat. However, my female is ALWAYS on the hot side and sitting in a perfect coil. I'm thinking I missed ovy and she's very close to laying for me.

How exciting, eggs soon! Did she stay on the cold side before switching to hot? I have one always on the cold side right now. I think that one's as bred as she's going to get, but I suppose I should still put her male in with her occasionally. Can't wait until I have more experience with all this.

I just keep the rotation until I no longer see them interested in each other or the (First Cigerette pops out!) lol

I haven't had her very long. I bought her possibly bred. She shed just before New Years and since then as been on the hot side. She's been placed with my lesser male twice and both times shows no interest and no locks. However, when my male is with the pastel female I have on loan, he wastes no time getting down to business! So I know it's not him. If the shed she had around New Years was her pre-lay shed, then I should be getting eggs very, very soon! Incubator is ready and she gets checked on twice a day. Good luck on getting your own eggs! I'm hoping my girls give me black pastels (the female I've been talking about was bred to a black pastel male) and some lesser pastels!

Ha Ha! I can just see them puffing some smokes after a good lock! .... Yeah, that lack of interest thing. That's what I'm talking about. It's like they're annoyed when I put them together now. It used to be fun seeing them get all excited when they got together. Now I hate to bother them. I think they're done breeding, but I'd hate to get to the end of the season, have few or no eggs, and wish I'd tried harder.

On the plus side, there's always next season! I'm hoping some of my 2012s are ready to go by this time next year. I have my doubts, but they might surprise me!

How lucky you are to have gotten a female already (probably) bred! I'm sure you'll get some nice eggs soon. I've gotten the same male BP reaction you have, very interested in a (probably) unbred female, but no interest at all in a (probably) bred female. I'm pretty sure all three of my females are bred now. I put two pairs together again last night, and nothing, even though it's raining. I'm going to give my last female one more shot, then I think I'll call it good. I was reading that once they go to the warm side, breeding's done. Mine are still on the cool side. Can't wait until they go to the warm side so I can stop this second-guessing.

I've heard of some females breeding in their second winter, especially if they were hatched early in the season. Good luck in 2014!

I have one who was born around January 2012. I got her in July 2012. She was malnurished, so she's the same size as my older 2012s. My spider was born in June and she's growing like a weed! She probably won't be ready to go in November, but I bet she'll be ready January or February. Even still, I'll have a 6 yr old 2000g female ready to next fall.

The one born in January will probably be ready. I'll bet she eats like crazy this year to catch up on her weight. That's the way it usually goes. It's like they somehow keep track of what they should have eaten, and make up for it later. Sounds like next year will be a big one for you!

I finally dropped the hot spot heat a couple of degrees, and they started breeding again! I'm going to keep the hot spot a little cooler in the winter from now on.
