He's a really nice guy with one freaking amazing beard, is all I know for sure.

I don't know pastel morphs very well or the quality, thereof.

Opinions, brutal or otherwise much appreciated.

    :)

IMO pastel boas should be super clean without any peppering, so I would personally pass.

That was my concern, as well.

He wants a good loving home for his boy and was happy to think he'd be coming here instead of a breeder or something.

    I'm torn.

Have you ever seen such an awesomely trippy beard in your life?

    I haven't.

Get him then ^.^ I'm more inclined to buy from people who are personable, professional, and are willing to help you out with info and questions. If the snake is healthy go for it.

As with the three girls I got from the going-off-to-college kid, this guy is pretty torn up about having to sell his small collection.

I'm regularly updating the kid with photos and stories of 'his' babies and it seems to ease his heartache over having to part with them.
[parents were terrified of them....juvie Boas and one big sweet girl they were handling with heavy leather gloves, fer cryin' out loud]

They were so afraid of the big girl, they weren't cleaning the very nice Boa enclosure she was in.
Just kept throwing in more newspaper.

When I gave her a rat for her first meal here, she didn't know what it was.

Kept nudging it like she was trying to resuscitate it or something.

[she'd been eating PetSmart mice her whole life and she's 7 feet long!]

But boy, did she ever learn "Rats..it's what fer supper" real quick.

    :D

    *sigh*

I hate being a soft touch.

    :-\

Some day, I'd like to have Boa babies and I'm not sure where, if at all, he'd fit in with the girls I have.

    Hypo to Pastel = what?
    Pastel to normal = what?

The little girls are reserved for a future Sunglow.

I don't know what to do.

[head and heart are locked in fierce battle right now]

It's been a looooong time since I've read up on it, but I vaguely remember reading that "pastel" boas weren't so much a morph as it is a trait (like reduced BPs). Don't take my word on that though.

    Regardless he's a pretty boy!

And it is so hard for me to picture getting a boa to 7' on mice. Dedication and quantity!

From what I just read, it's sort of like a "lightening" gene.
People breed them to hypos to get better hypos...or whatever else they want lightened/brightened.

It looks like he'd probably just be another poor waif I've taken in....:)

    I agree about the mice.

The mother griped about the expense of feeding 3 snakes and I was aghast when she said they were buying PetSmart frozen mice by the bagful.

    I can't imagine the cost!

They did buy a couple of rats and she said they were $11 a piece.

I buy in bulk and $11 is at least 2 weeks worth of food for 6 Boas and 9 Beeps.

    Geeze!

First, if you want the snake, get him. But that is no pastel. Or its the lowest quality one I have ever seen. Pastels should be much brighter, cleaner, and redder than this animal.

Pastel is not genetic although it is often used to brighten certain other morphs. If this guy really is a pastel (although he really can not be referred to as such since he doesn't meet the requirements) he would not be capable of improving color.

Having said that, he still may be a very nice snake that you would enjoy having so the decision is ultimately up to you. :gj:

Thanks :D I won't derail with pics, but here's a thread with updated pics of her and a few others: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-Bull-Argie%29

Please post pics of him if you do, in fact, get him.

That was my first question to the guy and I asked if he had any documentation and all I got was a generic 'my brother got him from a big breeder guy who knows his snakes" etc etc kind of reply.

I didn't think he was, either.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but he just really didn't look like the photos of pastels that I've seen.

I doubt he was trying to snooker me since he seems very convinced his snake is worth a small fortune.

Much as I would love to help the guy get a good home for him, I just don't think it's going to be my home.

[hubby will be overjoyed because this means he doesn't have to build yet another boa condo]

Uh, I guess he might if you paid him to.
Otherwise, I think he'd rather run away from home....:D

[they take about 2 days of non-stop griping and snake-cussing, each...wait'll he finds I that I'd like a bigger house for Bob, now]

The irony is that if you showed up here and made a huge fuss about how wonderful they are, he'd happily make you one.

[ya gotta know how to work him]

I'm actually goading him into starting a little Boa Condo business since the economy has trashed our trike biz.

As of tonight, he's got to build me another, at least because I just dragged this girl home.

Those are the guy's pix as I'm letting her settle in before her big screen test...:)

I'm thinking of naming her Peaches because of her peachy face patches and orangey belly freckles.

    She's so sweet and calm.

If you seriously want some built, give me a few weeks heads-up since it takes a while for him to build them 'perfect'.
[he's so weird about stuff being perfect]
