Paint morph
Can someone explain the paint morph to me? They seem very subtle. Looks like normals to me.
-
Re: Paint morph
I am also interested. I would like to see some paint and sentinel combos myself
-
Re: Paint morph
The Supers certainly don't look like a Normals!!! LOL
Super Nazca

Not sure what you want to know??? There are a lot of Subtle Morphs that make great Combos or have Crazy Supers...
-
Re: Paint morph
Let's start with identification of the paint morph, what do you look for? What are some of the characteristics of this morph? Alone? And when paired with other morphs?
-
Re: Paint morph
thanks Jon I got a pair of sentinels and can't wait to make a super. they are amazing looking

Soooo paint/sentinel/nazca all mean the same thing...?
I remember seeing jons super nazca before and drooling over it haha

I believe they are the same mutation just different lineages.

great, another triple named morph....like the cinny & black pastel; butter and lesser; mystic and phantom; calico and sugar, etc.
I am thinking of picking up a calico paint male and a paint female in hopes to go for the graffiti. I don't know the particulars on the paint morph either, though. That's where I hesitate some.

Here is a Paint from Jon at Breeder's Circle. I have been really digging the Paint project so I have been around quite a few. Here's what I've noticed about them. First off, their very obvious flames, just like YB's but they will have 2,3 flames together. The flaming is very intense. Their brown is a very rich brown with dark dark blacks. Their alien heads also look very granitey.
Here are a couple pictures of my male Paint.

When you say "but they will have 2,3 flames together" what do you mean? I guess I'm not seeing what you're referencing on your pics...
Can you post a pic of him next to a couple normals?

There is also RDR's Neo, Mark Hass' Speckled and a few other lines floating around...

I have a Nazca from Jon at CBA and would hate to get rid of one as a normal/morph if it's also carrying the Nazca gene.
Thanks,
Brian

Maybe my choice of words wasn't the best. But I reposted my pictures and circled what I meant. The flames are very intense. Some of them look like they are two flames in one, other flames kind of branch out and almost become another flame. Do these pictures help? I would take more of him, but he is currently in a bin with one of my girls.

Re: Paint morph
Is it a recessive, is it an incomplete dom?
There seems to be some confusion among a few people breeding them, would be nice to know for a fact?

Different morphs on the same allele.

My Nazcas are incomplete doms...

They are Inc. Dom. The ones who say otherwise are confused. :)

Re: Paint morph
One of the easiest ways for me to see the paint gene is in the first 3-4 alienheads on the neck of the snake. They will start out with minimal smudging to a lot just depending on how well the gene stands out but from what ive noticed in mine they develop more smudging with age. Charles Glaspie described it to me as looking like someone took paint thinner and smeared of some of the alienhead. They end up with very faded alienheads also with age or so mine have.

Re: Paint morph

So I see the faded alien heads on the YB paint above, but what about on a regular paint? Anyone have pics of the "smeared" alien heads?

Here is one of our paints with the smudging. Not near as much as the combo but it is there. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...38425038_n.jpg

Re: Paint morph
I will try and take another picture of the paint to show more by itself. We only got one paint out of the clutch. That pic is still hard to see i will see if i can get a better one. Im not the greatest photographer but il try.

My line of yellowbelly has a lot of this going on, including the dot behind the head ...
I've been told by numerous people they resemble yb paints

Re: Paint morph
That is an awesome yellowbelly though it definitely does look a lot like our YB Paints. Im going to check into that line would be neat to see if it adds more to Paint since they are so similar.

It's my line, I've reproduced a few similar last year also, very different yellowbelly's for sure

Re: Paint morph
Or really confusing to pick them apart when combined. :confusd:
-
Paint morph
Those are very minor differences.
-
Re: Paint morph
Not to get off the subject but id love to see a super from your Yellowbelly line.
-
Re: Paint morph
There are other markers but I am no expert. Charles Glaspie is who I asked and who we got our breeders from. He is definitely the guy to ask he definitely has helped me.

Sorry to get off subject...

They look similar but have yet to be proven compatible.
I hope I can shed some light on the Paint Ball morph for those who are interested.

I have been working with paints for a few years now and have produced a couple combo's to date. All info I have pertains to Paint Balls only(I am not familiar with the nazca, sentinels, or any other similar line out there). We should find out either this year or very soon if some of these are compatible or not.
1) First thing to look for is an almost granite pattern, or reduced alien heads. This sometimes shows up more towards the middle to end of the snake(pic 1).
2) The next thing is almost yellow belly like flames along the snake with higher concentration near the neck and head(pic 2 & 3).
3) Last is a 85-100% clear belly with track like marks on both sides down the snakes belly. Sometimes these tracks will cross to the other side creating a X patten on belly(pic 3)
can see the belly X at the top near my fingers
http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps9d8dabf4.jpg
These markers are present in varying degrees and some more than others. For example one could have a lot of flames with little granite pattern and clear belly, or another could have all granite pattern with little flames and a X belly...etc
Part 2 combo morphs to come...

Re: Paint morph
Part 2 Paint balls and Combo's
I was lucky enough to produce an extreme example of a paint this past season shown here

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...psdd825684.jpg

(@Jerry this is why your yellow belly line looks similar I'm guessing)
From what I have seen when you combine the Paint ball with other morphs it tends to accentuate some of the markers. Here are some Pastel Paints I produced in 2011 & 2012.

2012 Pastel Paints

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps9e638add.jpg
http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...psb6070607.jpg
I was also lucky enough to produce what I believe is a first combo of Paint and Pinstripe. I have showed a few others working on the project along with Ted Williams(one of the founders of the Paint Ball) and also seem to believe I did hit the combo. It appears the paint increases the amount of flames when combined with certain morphs.

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps7f014845.jpg
http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...psb512ad03.jpg
Also adds more dotted pattern as well
http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps4519075e.jpg
Like any other morph you are going to get low and high end examples of it. Sometimes it is difficult to tell from some normals but it is an incomplete dominate morph and does produce visuals if bred to a normal.

Hi Pat, are the first few pictures what you're saying is the super form of the Pain? Is there that big of a variation in the supers with Paints where some are drastic like you see in adds and some are more subdued like in your example? Nice looking snake with the white speckling going up the sides but not what I expected.
Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Brian

Pat, that was very helpful. Paint pin looks very nice.

Re: Paint morph
Just so you know I have not produced a super form to date as I have been working on making combo's first to make a bunch of combo supers in the near future. The 1st four pics are of an regular Paint ball. The pics of the extreme paint ball could also be a really low grade super I won't know for sure until its bred. All the other pics are of combo paint morphs. here is a pic of the super form= Super Paint right from the world of ball pythons..

Hope this helps... :D

I would love to prove that out, time will tell.

Re: Paint morph
Thanks Pat. I had read your "extreme" comment as meaning super. I apologize for that. That is a great looking example of the normal morph for sure then!!

Re: Paint morph
I can't wait to see what super paint combos come out in the near future. Thanks Patrick, your post was very informative. I own some paints, and have been searching the Internet for something to really explain the morph in detail for me. Can't wait to receive some of your paints in April :gj:

Re: Paint morph
Awesome pictures thanks Pat. I hope to be showing you guys a few supers in a few months I got my fingers crossed. I hope I get an awesome example like you have shown also. Thanks again. Id love to hear what projects anyone has going on with the Paint this year.
