    Best tarantula for a newbie
Im actually pretty scared of spiders. Thats why i want a taratnula to help me feel comfortable with them. What's the best tarantula for a newbie like me?

    Quantum Constrictors
Anything in the Brachypelma family is good. Slow growing. Usually Docile. Usually Cheap. They are hair kickers so they would rather do that then bite you.

I own a B.smithi and its a great T. Not even close to mature yet thought. When they are mature you can expect a very docile Tarantula that you may even be able to handle.

Before I even came close to buying a Tarantula I went out and bought The Tarantula Keepers Guide. This is basic the bible for T keepers. It is jam packed with info!

    I agree with the above.

    I would also recommend

    Grammostola pulchripes
    Chaco Golden Knee

    A normal ol rose hair.

My Charlotte has helped me get over my fear:

She hasn't kicked hairs or attempted to bite. When she's in my hand she just sits there :)

I'd like to add the avicularia sp.. A.versicolor is my favorite. Just note they have awesome aim shooting poo. And generally speaking, a little quicker than the others listed above.

They do love to poo on you :p

Also look up the bite reports and understand what "hair kicking" can do to you. Don't trust the people at the pet store for care info. Personally I would stay away from wild caught.

    Bobbafett,
How much are you feeding that Chilean Rose? Looks to be on the skinny side.
I took about 12 years before my rosea threw up a threat pose, so never let your guard down :p

I was told these aren't a good first T due to their speed.

    Truth to that?

While mine is still small, I haven't handled it much, but it doesn't run away or act all tough either.
I held an adult pink toe at the reptile show before picking this one up and the adult was as chill as any T I've been around.

    They can be pretty quick.

My first was an OBT. While they're not for everyone he really isn't that bad. He is fast but he always retreats to his tunnel at the slightest disturbance. Just do your research. Then do more research. Get something you like and are confident with and you'll be fine.

I want something slow and docile. And the bigger the.better. for some reason smaller spiders really freak me out

    How slow is slow?
All of them can be pretty quick when they want to be.

I'll stand by my first suggestion.
