A pastel poll
I know it's not a real poll, but I found a breeder I'm thinking of getting my first pastel from. These are the ladies he has available. All of them are over 300 grams. I'm kinda partial to the pattern on the first and third ones, but I want to know how they might stack up as breeders. I know they're not great pics but I asked for them and this is what I got. Should I be looking for brighter colors? Will these brown out badly because they are so orange already? Talk to me pastel people. The sire would be a real nice light tan colored Mojave Spider.

They look like they may brown out, but if I were to choose, I like number 3.

X 2. I am in the same shoes looking for a good pastel female.
-
Always look for the most faded head that you can with pastels, and the least amount of orange. From that criteria, I agree with #3 as the best choice.

#3 is cool but I really like the pattern on #1 :D
-
I like number 2. I like my pastels with lots of blushing. 2's head may not be as blushed but the rest of his body has much more than 3.

Re: A pastel poll
If I decide to get one I think it'll be number 3. I had not considered the head blushing being a sought after trait in a pastel. Or any other morph for that matter. I appreciate the opinions.

I like a nice amount of blushing. Look at the dorsal markings- most all of them have some nice blushing. The head is not as light as #3, but I think the blushing makes up for it.

That is true, blushing is what I love about my pastel. That being said, he is totally browned out and was not even very bright as a hatchling. But I am in love with his blushing and he just had a different look about him. So in the end it is your snake and your pet. By the way, hello fellow Texan!

Re: A pastel poll
id go with 2 because these more total blusing or 3 i guess as a second choose.

Same boat. Mines browner than some, but I LOVE his blushing. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/13/etahaheb.jpg

Pigfat, he is very pretty!

Thanks! Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers on what they prefer on any given morph. I'm a blushing guy lol, I don't mind if they brown out so much.

Re: A pastel poll
Wow y'all have made this decision so much harder. Many more things to consider. I really want a pastel for my breeding collection. Although I should just be saving up for the MYSTIC female I'll be looking for at the NARBC show in Feb.
-
Oh man 1 and 3 are really nice! I think 3 gets my vote! I love how reduced she is. You can't go wrong with reduced morphs!
-
2 does have blushing, but not a ton. id definely go for the reduced pattern in 3!
-
Keep your eyes open for what catches your eye. Keep in mind new babies will be hatching pretty soon if you dont mind growing up a hatchling. My vote is still for 3 out of those though. I will be at the show in Feb as well, hopefully you can find an awesome mystic there!
-
It could be the picture. But based off that, I think #2 looks to have the brightest future.......lol did you see what I did there?
-
I don't believe either of those 3 are very good representations of the pastel morph. The blushing is not there and they have a ton of brown on them already at a young age. If you are going to NARBC this feb, you should just wait and pick up the best pastel you can find there. There will be much more to chose from at the show and you could haggle and you a better price!

Here is my pastel, there is a big difference between good pastels and bad pastels. There are too many people breeding now a days and you have to try to keep a morph standard.

Re: A pastel poll
Thanks for the input friends. Now I really know what to look for in a pastel. Part of me wants to try and find an adult female, but so few are actually listed for sale. O well, I know I have to be patient. Especially since I'm probably gonna drop 700 on a mystic if I find it. Then the loooooong 18-24 months wait for her to reach breeder size. Patience sucks.
