    Animal planet aggrivates me..
I dont know if im the only one but Animal Planet has been ticking me off lately. Want to know why? Animal Planet is what made me have my passion for all animals and herps since i was 3. But now i feel like their shows make a negative impact on some animals. I used to watch shows that educated people about snakes, herps, inverts, ect. Steve, Jeff or whoever showed that these animals were usually harmless and very interesting. Now all i see is shows like Infested, Rattlesnake Republic, Cant beat em eat em, "this animal almost killed me" and all this other garbage that scares people. How can a house be "infested" with snakes that are not even venomous and pose no threat? Why show a program of senselessly killing animals for entertainment or for their skin? And killing animals for food when no one even eats them just "to try"? I dont know but i feel like these shows are going to contribute to why our pets are being banned by the goverment. Animal planet is just scaring people with no facts or respect for certain animals just for ratings. Seriously a year or two back there was a episode of a mother finding a ball python wrapped around her babys leg for warmth and they made it seem it was trying to eat the babys leg.. Seriously its rediculous.

    Sorry for the rant

Your not the only one. It seems like since Steve passed away AP just dropped the ball. The only positive show I've seen on there these days is gator boys.

Oh man, I have to agree big time. There was something that I saw recently that hit pretty close to home.

It was on Animal Cops, they had found a home where a guy was illegally breeding and selling bps, rtbs, carpets, etc. and while they were seizing the animals they went on about how dangerous they were.

I completely agree with you, I used to love animal planet and now it disgusts me. It's gone from educating people to condemning animals.

    1.0 ball pythons - Koba
    0.1 pitbull/lab - Cinnamon
    0.1 collie/elkhound - Fluffy

Exactly, i saw that episode of animal cops also. I feel like if its not a puppy or a kitten on the show "too cute", EVERYTHING is dangerous. Pitbulls and Perolees and Gator Boys are the only 2 shows i see trying to improve a animals bad rep. Im just so dissapointed, the past few years i barely ever watch that channel. A big difference from growing up with it always on. I feel like media, tv, and everything else in this world is just out to scare people for ratings with all negative facts and opinions. Its like people are waiting to watch something of a negative nature rather then being informed or educated.

Make the planet fear the animals so there is no out cry of rage when the animal habitats are destroyed since they are all dangerous anyway that's their new out look :)

Anyone see that guy Austin Stevens?

Saw an episode he did on the Burmese in Florida. I found it amusing he handled the burm with a hook but grabbed a copperhead earlier on with his hands

    Re: Animal planet aggrivates me..
Well, thanks to Animal Planet no matter how much i try to educate people my family still thinks keeping my 5 ball pythons is animal hoarding and think the ASPCA will be taking them from me. They still think my 5 foot ball python is going to grow 16 feet and constrict me to death and think they are a danger to me and my fiancè's future children. And my mom still thinks snakes are evil and devilish because of how they are portrayed in movies and tv shows. Im religious and all but how can anyone in their right mind believe a certain species of animal is evil or bad luck? Thanks to TV, my family and friends think i am crazy lol

The only person "scared" of snakes in y house is my grandpa. He won't hold them, but will stroke their back if I bring them near.

My mom doesn't mind my snakes at all. She loves them. Shes told me stories about when she was young and lived in Texas she swam with water moccasins and picked up a rattle snake. Yet.... She is terrified of the mice they eat....

Everyone is in my family. Most respect my snakes and know they are not as bad as they thought they were but no one ever held them except for a few friends. My fiance likes and tolerates them and does not mind my breeding plans but had never more then pet one. I have family members who will not come over anymore or even talk to me because of their sick fear of snakes. These animals have such a uneccesary bad reputation it makes me so angry people are not open to learn about them.

Maybe my family is just accepting, but I found if you didn't push them on people, they'd slowly become curious enough to become intrigued with my snakes.

Well... Animal Planet's motto is "surprisingly human". I think that says it all. They aren't really about the animals. They are about getting ratings. They will put programs on that get ratings. Appealing to people's fears will get ratings. Trying to educate people will not.
