    Crested not eating? help please
Hello friends. I posted recently about my new crested gecko that I got. She is about a year old, her temps are 70-75, misted twice daily. I have had her almost a month. I have 2 different flavors of crested gecko diet for her and I am just not seeing her eat. Ive tried mixing it thicker and thinner and in the morning I dont see where she has eaten any of it. If have tried making it fresh every night and leaving it in for a couple nights too. If I put it on her nose she will lick it off, but she won't lick it freely from my fingers like she did on the day I got her. I read you could put a tiny drop of honey in the mixs to amp up the sweetness and smell, so I did that last night, but you could still tell she hadn't licked any up. Could she be stressed or could something else be wrong? I do find poop in the cage, but not in several days. I love this little girl and I am worried about her. Please let me know any input you have.

Roughly how big is she? The only geckos I have that clean their bowls are my 40g+ females. Some of my little ones looks like they don't eat at all. You might also be stressing her out by over fussing about her.

You could also offer her some crickets to mix things up a bit or make a smoothie with some fresh overly ripe fruit.

I have not weighed her, but I will when I get home. That way I can keep an eye on her. I have offered crickets and she shows no interest. I thought about trying Pangea Fruit Mix or mashing her up some banana or something.

I haven't tried the fruit mix yet but I was planning on getting some for mine as a treat. I have heard great things about it. :)

Just be care feeding it because it is just a little better than baby food and was intended to be fed with dusted crickets.

Well theres several things that could be attributing to her not eating. First off being that its winter and cresteds will eat less, this is due to light cycles, lower humidity, and lower temps. Stress is another thing, if you are continually handling her or switching up her tank she will tend to eat less. I would get a gram weight on her and post it here, if you could provide us with a picture as well that would help me establish her overall size.

How long have you had her? Sometimes it takes a few weeks for them to get used to their new home. She might just be stressed. Do you have a picture of her?

well best way to tell if she is eating is check the tub for poop if its a vivarium or substrate that is dirt then you'll wanna check your room temps and humidity. If that is well try to give her crickets the size of the distance between her eyes and dust them with calcium and vitamins and let the rephashy be in there if she eats them she is eating and the crickets will eat some rephasy and she'll get it too.

What worries me is that her food is in a tiny shallow 0.5 oz cups and I just fill it so it covers the bottom. I would think I would see if she were eating anything. She has no interest in crickets either.

I have hand fed my crested gecko since day one. I know not everyone has time for that, but he is my only one so I am able to. I give him lots of different items. Rhinoplasty Crested Gecko i mix in a contact lens case and use a medicine dropper to drop the diet onto his nose. He usually stops jumping around to lick it off. I also feed him dubli roaches and crickets off tongs. He loves to eat them. I have heard that if their enclosure is to large they have a hard time finding their food. If I leave the RCD in his tank I do 3 parts water to 1 parts powder because it used to dry up over night when I was doing 2 parts water to 1 part diet.

how soon does the food dry up after its in the enclosure don't sound like you have enough food in there and its drying up before she eats if she won't take crickets some people use Dubia Roaches which are really good for them I put mine in calcium powder and in a glass dish so my gecko's see them but they can't climb out.

Well I had her out last night trying to put tiny dabs of food on her nose. She licked some off. But then she pooped on me. I guess that's a good thing.

is she is pooping then she is eating as long as the poop is normal and not runny or like diarrhea I would be ok just put your rephasy in a milk cap lid fill it up so she can eat it as she pleases mist her so she has water and just watch her eyes and check for poop and your good. If anything weird happens just send a message :)

Hmm, still not much change. I don't notice any food gone still. I tried to give her some banana yesterday and she would lick it off her nose, but didn't seem interested it that either. Should I worry or just keep an eye on her weight and keep filling her food each night?

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. Your girl is completely fine, she looks very filled out :gj:. I would guess she is just going off feed a little bit because of winter. All of my ciliatus are also eating very small amounts, even the pairs that I have breeding at the moment. I wouldn't offer more then 1-2 insects a week and I'd keep up with CGD every two days. If the CGD is drying up too quickly you can add a few drops of water so it will last until you change it out with a new dish. You do not need to worry about lack of feeding until she drops below 30g, if she drops that low get her to a vet and run a fecal. You should also decrease the amount of stress she is experiencing. Covering up a few sides of the vivarium and not handling her will make her feel more at home and more willing to eat.

Okay, thank you so much. I may try moving her enclosure to another area of the house that doesn't see as much traffic or covering a couple sides of her house. When she sits a certain way I can see her little ribs though, and it makes me think she is skinny :(

weigh her and keep an eye on her but she does look good she don't look to have sunken in sides and ribs showing, her eyes are not sunken in so she is hydrated. I think she is eating just not as much as you would assume I have over a few hundred of them and some girls will take a few licks of there food here and there during the end of winter for the coming spring breeding others will eat there whole lid of food in a 12 hour span as long as they are not skinny or sunken eyes and pooping and there given fresh food every 36 hours they should be good also some live food dusted with calcium and vitamins is nice on occasion. I think your girl looks good maybe try to keep her somewhere, where there isn't many people constantly walking by or lights on and loud noises all the time maybe that can startle her to not eat as much but she looks fine I wouldnt' worry about it
