    New little boa :)
So...we've been researching snakes for quite awhile now. My 6 year old has some severe cat and dog allergies so I promised her a "non furry" pet. I was thinking Ball Python but right after Thanksgiving our little pet store got 5 Sandboas in. I had told my kids that it would be after Christmas before we got anything. When we went back this week they still had the little guys! So...meet Dorito! When a 4 and 6 year old name the pets they end up with funny names sometimes:P

I'm sorry the pictures are so big! I can't figure out how to resize them!

Cool! He's a looker! Out of curiosity, what are you using to heat the tank?

I've never personally met one of those guys. But I have watched them in the sand, pretty cool to watch. Congrats!

Very cool. Nice to see you settled on a snake after the great debate. I remember your first post here. So glad you did your homework and I'm sure you are too. Congrats on entering the world of snakes! I hope he DORITO grows fat and happy for you.

I would lose the sand. The substrate that I use is Desert Blend Lizard Litter, which is crushed walnut shells.

We have a small heat lamp over the left side of his tank. I talked to the breeder of this little guy on the phone after I purchased him from the pet store and then set my tank up the way he suggested. Does anyone else here keep sandboa's? I was set on going with aspen bedding and then the breeder told me not to and that he (Dorito) would like the sand better.

    Thanks y'all :)

Cool, you went with a sand boa.

    I keep mine on Aspen.
One thing, you might want to change out that bowl. SBs can be known to not find their water very easily. I have even read where people have to hold them over the bowl for them to drink. A bowl with the edge closer to the surface might be better.

I think i sent this to you before but just incase I didn't.

    Good choice :)

Thanks for the input! I'll get him a lower water bowl asap. I might change to aspen bedding too (I never heard of using walnut shells! I'll have to see if it's easy to find here)...although I hate to go against what the breeder told me to use for his set up. The little guy seems to like it...he tends to stay buried in it with just his little nose poking out:oops:

My main worry with the sand would be feeding. Do you plan to feed it in the tank?

I love seeing them peeking out :D

They also love to escape. If there is a way, they will find it. (just a heads up)

Hope you don't mind if I share a pic. I got a couple of new ones for Xmas :)
