Feeding the yearling Purple - agression

The other day, I set up my camera, grabbed some rats, and decided to make a video of the purple retic feeding. She's usually a boring video, so I didn't expect much, but lately she's been picking up her game. Well, low and behold, this instance she decided to let her true monster side show through. It was a fun time and of course after she fed she was back to being her sweet self. I dodged some strikes, laughed at her trying to get me, and gave her a giant Medium Rat as her meal. She's some where between 4-5' and right around a year old if I'm not mistaken. She's a high% Dwarf Purple Ablino Reticulated Python. Enjoy, don't get bit by the retic bug :banana:

My purple boy is the same way. Some days I need 4' tongs to be able to feed him lol. He knows when it's meal time so he's waiting at the edge of his tub ready to strike at anything that moves lol.

This girl is usually baby tame when feeding. She'll stick her head out of the hide. See the rat. Look around. Ok grab it. And then eat. This day was completely random for her, had me laughing at her striking everywhere. Not sure I'll be laughing in another year when she continues packing on size. But we will see. Retics are a blast if you are prepared for the responsibilty, attitude, and pee. . .. lots and lots of pee. . . .

@ Carlson - my one fully grown adult is in a PVC enclosure. The rest of my retics are yearling with two being only 3 and 4 months old. All my tics will be moved into Vision 600/622 and 400/422 caging after some discussion with a few breeders who use them and rec them strongly. AP is the second best bet for adult retics though. It takes a lot of work to get a mainland female over 17-18 ft. A 16 ft female can be comfortable in a Vision 632.

Oh and the yearlings like this purple are currently in CB-70 tubs. Great for growing out retics.

It's funny, my dwarf tics typically have a much more aggressive feed response than my mainlands. Must be compensating :P

I might have you confused with someone else bought I thought you said you don't use a hook at feeding time as not to assosiate the hook with feeding for handling purposes. Also that is pretty laid back for a retic feeding response compared to what I had imagined. I have several balls that make that look like a kitten nursing lol. Not to mention the feed response of the adult carpet girl I picked up a couple weeks ago.

Lol nope I did say that and I posted this video in another section notating this was the only time I had to grab the hook - this girl is not hooked train because she has never had any desire to be aggressive in her tub only during feeding times. The hook was to keep her head slightly back. This is very motivated for her, my Adult male is much different lunging out 4 ft from his cage to try and get anything and everything during feeding day. He does NOT see a hook during a feeding day because he has been and is hook trained. My Super Dwarf Tiger females feeding response is MUCH more aggressive than my Mainland White Albino. The Mainland is more aggressive on any given day in general, but has finally worked down enough that I open the tub and tap his hide then pull him out with just my hand. No more blood drawn from that guy :-). If you click on my channel I have quite a few retic feeding videos. I have one adult female ball that is 10000% Worse than my retics just because she's about 8 years old now and fairly attentive to food :-)

I always told myself I'm getting a retic as a graduation present for myself when I finish university..... you are making it very hard on me to wait!!!

Keep in mind, if you feed them slowly to grow them out, it takes years for them to outgrow a 4x2x2 viv ;-) especially if it's a male. Why put off tomorrow what you can do today :banana:
